The 58-year-old late-night host took a break from his ongoing feud with to look back on the start of his friendship with Carolla, 62.
During his speech, Kimmel recalled how the two met in 1994, when he was working on KROQ's Kevin and Bean radio show.
Carolla, who was then a boxing coach, called in and was selected to give Kimmel some pointers ahead of a fight.

Kimmel recalled his future friend's withering assessment of his boxing abilities.
‘Jimmy is 160 pounds of pure chiseled steel,' he recalled Corolla saying, according to Variety. 'Unfortunately, he weighs 225.'

Kimmel went on to praise his old Man Show co-host as 'one of the funniest people' he had ever known, and affectionately dubbed Carolla the 'Laverne to my Shirley.'
His speech even took an emotional turn as he acknowledged that the two don't see eye to eye on politics. 'Adam and I, as you probably know, don’t agree much when it comes to politics, but I love him dearly,' said Kimmel
'I’ve never worked with anyone funnier. I am proud of him,' Kimmel continued. 'This is a guy who worked his way up from nothing to become, literally, a millionaire, and if you don’t believe it you’ll hear him say it every single show'
'He was a poor kid from the San Fernando Valley who was rejected by the management at Taco Bell, and whose name will now forever be part of this filthy, disgusting intersection,' Kimmel said in reference to the star's location at 6777 Hollywood Boulevard.
The comic, who wore his standard late-night outfit of a black suit and tie, posed arm-in-arm with Carolla, who wore a gray–blue suit with brown shoes and sunglasses.
Kimmel helped present Carolla's star, and the two posed together with a plaque commemorating the moment.
Carolla – whose star honored his work in radio, particularly on The Adam Carolla Show – added some comedy to the proceedings when he had a police officer pretend as if he was arresting him just as Kimmel was about to present his star
Carolla also poked fun at Kimmel, joking that his ratings could possibly rebound now that Stephen Colbert's competing late-night show had been canceled by CBS; Colbert is pictured on his show on May 6

The ceremony also included a speech from Dr. Drew Pinsky, while Adam Weissler was the master of ceremonies.
Following his early run-in with Kimmel, Carolla went on to appear on the radio show Loveline with Pinsky, before launching a TV version of the series from 1996 to 2000.
In 1999, he and Kimmel began co-hosting The Man Show – which they co-created with Daniel Kellison – for Comedy Central, and they followed it up with Crank Yankers, which aired from 2002 to 2005.
In addition to currently appearing on his podcast, Carolla is also a best-selling author.
