Nicole, 58, and Ewan, 54, who co-starred in ’s 2001 hit movie Moulin Rouge!, reunited at the Dolby Theatre to present the Best Picture Award, raising eyebrows with their playful display.

Prior to announcing the winner, Nicole said she 'adored' all of the nominees, which prompted Ewan to cheekily ask if she 'loved' them.

'Adored? Would you say you loved them? You know, love is like oxygen,' Ewan cheekily asked Nicole.

The pair then performed a very flirty skit in which they swapped romantic song titles.

'Love is a many splendid thing,' Nicole said, to which Ewan responded: 'Love lifts us up where we belong.'

Ewan was then seen tenderly grabbing Nicole's arm as he recited a monologue about what love meant to the both of them. 

'But I have to say, Nicole, even though it's been 25 years [since Moulin Rouge], every time I hear the word love, I still imagine someone is going to lower a chandelier and cue the orchestra,' Ewan remarked.

'Ooh, don't tempt me,' Nicole cheekily responded. 

Their display quickly raised the eyebrows of viewers.

'That may have been the worst pre-award banter in Oscars history,' commented one viewer.

'It took me a while to even know what movie they were referring to,' added another. 

'Close and lock the doors. Hollywood has sunk to its lowest low. The fawning and cooing is so fake,' commented one more.

'Is she okay? She seems odd... ' wrote a fourth. 

Nicole Kidman certainly made an entrance as she arrived at the 98th  on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in .
