Kevin Costner is returning to the Western genre once again.
Despite the box office struggles of his self-funded Western film project Horizon and his high-profile exit from Yellowstone, the actor, 70, is doubling down on the genre by producing the upcoming Civil War spy epic, The Gray House.
The Oscar winner produced the eight-part series, set to be released on February 26, with Morgan Freeman.
Based on a true story, the show centers on unsung women in Confederate territory who establish an underground spy network.
Directed by Roland Joffe, it stars Mary-Louise Parker, Daisy Head, Amethyst Davis and Ben Vereen.
The group is comprised of ‘a Virginia socialite, her mother, a formerly enslaved sister-in-arms, and the city’s most notorious courtesan.’

The show was written by Leslie Greif, Darrell Fetty and John Sayles.
Costner, Freeman and Greif executive produce alongside Lori McCreary, Rod Lake and Howard Kaplan.
All eight episodes of The Gray House will premiere simultaneously on Prime Video.
Costner’s latest project comes following his 2024 box office bomb Horizon: An American Saga, which was was originally planned as a four-movie series.

But that hasn’t deterred Costner, who is reportedly still looking to fund Chapter 3’s unfinished production, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Costner previously told THR: ‘I need some more money — I do. I need some of these big billionaires, with f*****g boats ‘from here to here’ who are fond of telling people they’re billionaires, to come with me and make a movie. I don’t have the money they have, and I’ve already made two of ’em. Where are you rich guys?’
The film has also been bogged down by a legal battle, after a stuntwoman named Devyn LaBella claimed in a lawsuit last May that she was ‘the victim of a violent, unscripted, unscheduled rape scene’ directed by Costner while serving as a double for actress Ella Hunt for Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 2 in May 2023.
Costner’s lawyer Marty Singer denied the claims and stated that LaBella’s allegations were patently false, and motivated by finances.
Last year it was reported that Costner was left ‘furious’ over The Hollywood Reporter’s recent exposé on his career.
Costner notably portrayed the character of rancher John Dutton in Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western drama series Yellowstone.
The publication claimed Costner ‘lunged’ at his Yellowstone co-star, Wes Bentley, during a heated altercation.
Yellowstone ended in 2024 after an alleged dispute between Costner and Sheridan, as there were scheduling conflicts between the pair as well as creative disputes over the show’s storyline.
THR claimed that Costner allegedly lost his temper after Bentley, 47, refused to ‘ditch Taylor Sheridan’s script’ and try doing the scene ‘his way.’
One insider claimed Bentley ‘told Costner that he had signed up for a Taylor Sheridan show, not a Kevin Costner production.’
‘Kevin didn’t like that, and he lunged at him,’ one source who was present described to the outlet. ‘No fists were thrown, but they were in each other’s faces, pushing and shoving and just getting hot until they had to be separated.’

This reportedly left actress Kelly Reilly, who plays Beth Dutton, in tears and forced the hit Paramount series to briefly halt production.
The alleged incident was described as ‘a tipping point on a set already cracking from creative power struggles and bruised egos.’
Costner began his career when he took on a role in the 1981 movie Sizzle Beach, U.S.A. – also known as Malibu Hot Summer.
He went on to make appearances in other films such as Fandango (1985) and The Untouchables (1987).
In 1990, Costner both starred in and directed the Western epic Dances With Wolves – which won him Best Picture and Best Director the following year at the Academy Awards.
Other movies the actor is known for is Field Of Dreams (1989), The Bodyguard (1992), Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves (1991), Wyatt Earp (1994), Open Range (2003) and Man Of Steel (2013).
