Keeley Hawes has revealed how she still gets ‘called Mrs Durrell in the street’ as she discussed her acting career on Wednesday.
The actress, 49, admitted it’s ‘very flattering’ when she gets recognised for her work in a candid chat about her career.
Joining Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on season seven of Dish from Waitrose she joked she’d spent a lot of time in people’s living rooms.
Keeley starred as Louisa Durrell on the hit TV series, based on Gerald Durrell’s memoirs of his childhood with his quirky family on the Greek island of Corfu.
The show ran from 2016 until its final episode in 2019, but it seems fans still remember her portrayal.
She explained: ‘People immediately think they know you, yeah-when you’re in their living rooms. People call me Mrs. Durrell a lot.’

The actress continued: ‘For people, that is the thing that they call me, ‘Oh, Mrs. Durrell!’ I mean, people fall back into racks of clothes and things and go ‘Mrs. Durrell!’ Um…Which I always find very flattering.
‘Something like Bodyguard or like Line of Duty, where literally people are shouting things from vans and people and, you know, it becomes part of the culture for that week or whatever. It’s really exciting. It’s really flattering, and really lovely.’
Keeley is currently starring in Miss Austen, which viewers praised as ‘perfect Sunday night viewing’ after just one episode.
The first instalment of the BBC series aired on February 2 and stars Keeley as Cassandra, as well as Game of Throne star Rose Leslie as Isabella Fowle.
Exploring the sisterly bond between Cassandra and Jane Austen, the four-part drama was filmed in and around the home counties.
Adapted from Gill Hornby’s best-selling novel, BAFTA-winning writer Andrea Gibb has taken the tale of Cassandra notoriously burning Jane’s letters and explores the sisters’ challenging relationship.
The show has already received glowing feedback from viewers and many have taken to social media to share their verdicts.
One posted on X: ‘Keeley Hawes her usual inspirational self. Rose Leslie perfect in her role but the most awesome casting is Patsy Ferran as the iconic Jane.
