Keanu Reeves at San Diego Comic-Con

Keanu Reeves was an animated presence on the panel for his Netflix project BRZRKR: The Immortal Saga Unleashed at San Diego Comic-Con.

The film is based on the Speed actor’s, 59, own series of books in which an immortal warrior named B. becomes an asset to the U.S. government who uses his violent tendencies to carry out missions.

On the panel Keanu – who toured with his rock band Dogstar this summer – was engaged and happy and dressed in his signature all black look, consisting of a suit jacket over a V-neck, untucked T-shirt and black pants.

A movie version and an animated series adaptation of the books were announced in 2021.

At Comic Con, writer Matt Tomlinson told the audience a draft of the script for the film version has been completed.

The source material for the project is full of blood-soaked action scenes with the protagonist showing no mercy.

Because he’s immortal, there in an infinite amount of spinoffs to this burgeoning universe that are possible.

The story line seems to take some inspiration from Reeves’ past roles in the John Wick and Matrix franchises.

The Matrix is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and in an interview with Stephen Colbert on The Late Show  earlier this month, Reeves got choked up talking about the iconic film series.

He took a beat to collect his thoughts before saying ‘The Matrix changed my life, and then over these years, it’s changed so many other people’s lives in really positive and great ways,” Reeves started.

‘As an artist, you hope for that when you get to do a film or tell a story.’

The Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure star choked up while he added,  ‘So when you say these years, the amount of people that I have met who have said to me and been touched by The Matrix in such a positive way… It’s the best.’

Reeves was already a bankable star by the time he was offered the role of Neo in the Wachowski sisters’ 1999 movie.

The Matrix boosted his career into the stratosphere and ignited a public fascination with him that continues to this day.

He returned to the role of Neo for three sequels: 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions and 2021’s The Matrix Resurrections.

During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show in 2021, he reflected on what it felt like to come back to the character that had such a profound impact on his life 18 years after the last film.

‘When the director asked me what I thought about doing another Matrix film I said “What? That sounds amazing but I’m dead.” She was like, “Are you?” and I said, “Do tell!”

‘She wrote a beautiful story, and I love playing the character. How I am alive will all be explained.’
