Keanu Reeves, 61, Raises Concerns Before ‘Stiff’ Waiting for Godot Performance

Keanu Reeves sparked concern among fans as he arrived at the theater ahead of his opening night performance of Waiting for Godot on Sunday.

The Matrix star, 61, arrived at the Hudson Theatre in Midtown Manhattan with girlfriend Alexandra Grant, 52, but all eyes turned to the star’s disheveled appearance and ‘skinny’ frame as he prepared for his Broadway debut.

Reeves, who recently denied rumors he had wed his longtime partner, was later branded ‘stiff’ on stage by New York Post Johnny Oleksinski – as it was claimed he ‘struggled’ through the performance as Estragon.

After a video emerged of Reeves – clad in a crumpled suit with battered shoes –  arriving at the theater, fans flocked to the comment section.

One fan wrote: ‘He looks so skinny. It is worrisome. Since the last years, he gets scaringly [sic] thin, hope, he is not ill. He used to look so stunning during John Wick. What happened?

‘He is losing significant weight and looks unhappy and skinny, than you stick your head in the sand. Of course, he still looks good. I did not say that he does not look good, but compared to 2019 and even 3 years ago, he is sooo thin and frail that people are worried.’

Others wrote: ‘Keanu I love you, but you need a new look.

‘I get the whole humbleness but come on bro shower get a haircut and get a fresh suit and shoes.

‘Exactly, Keanu wears dark jacket with gray striped pants and casual shoes, it’s shows he doesn’t care. 

‘He could of washing his hair and a nice haircut.’

‘I kind of agree with you. He’s so gorgeous. A great haircut and a stubble would look amazing on him.’

‘Gosh he could hv made a little tiny effort on his appearance..just a nip of an effort 

Others praised the star, saying: ‘He is my favorite actor of all time. Such a cool Person 🙂

‘Keanu looks handsome. His wife look beautiful.’

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Keanu Reeves for comment and has yet to hear back.

In the NY post review, the performance landed a meager two star rating with criticism levelled at Reeves, with the review reading: ‘He doesn’t imbue any of Gogo’s lines with meaning — only speed and breathiness. 

‘They’re just memorized words that are read with the investment of stating one’s Social Security number. The actor relies on a vacant stare that’s money when he’s playing an assassin on the big screen. Not so much in live theater.’

The Guardian critic Adrian Horton gave the production three stars, and praised Reeves’ chemistry with his Bill & Ted co-star Alex Winter, 60.

‘Luckily, there’s Bill & Ted to save the day. The reunion of Winter and Reeves provides a shiny, pleasing lacquer of nostalgia over the proceedings, their comedic chemistry still unmatched and irreproducible. The two longtime friends lend lines such as “together again at last …” a jolt of delight, with a couple extra-textual treats to boot.’

Speed star Reeves officially made his Broadway debut as the hapless Estragon in director Jamie Lloyd’s revival of the 1952 Samuel Beckett surrealist tragicomedy, which runs through January 4, 2026. 

The International Emmy-winning producer originally met Alexandra at a dinner party in 2009 before contributing poetry to two of her books, Ode to Happiness in 2011 and Shadows in 2016.

Following rumors they secretly wed, the grantLOVE project founder posted a PDA snap of the couple captioned: ‘This is a real photo. Not an engagement photo or an AI wedding announcement… simply a kiss! I’m sharing it here to say thank you to everyone for the congratulations on our wedding.

‘Except we didn’t get married. Good news is much needed these days, but it’s still fake news, so be careful out there! So, here’s a bit of real happiness!’

And last Monday, Reeves’ publicist told E! News: ‘It is not true. They are not married.’

Reeves previously romanced Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron and Oscar-winning screenwriter Sofia Coppola – as well as the late David Lynch’s assistant Jennifer Syme, who died in a 2001 car accident after welcoming their stillborn daughter in 1999.

Waiting for Godot reunited the Dogstar vocalist-bass player with his former Bill & Ted trilogy castmate, Alex Winter, who portrays the heady Vladimir.
