Kaz Crossley has admitted she ‘feels like a boy’ after shaving her head for charity having developed alopecia herself following a series of traumatic events.
The former Love Island star, 29, who appeared on the ITV reality show in 2018, took to Instagram on Sunday to share pictures of herself holding her chopped locks after shearing her long tresses off her head.
Now, Kaz has given her honest opinion on the new look, telling FUBAR Radio: ‘I feel like a boy. I’d be lying if I said that I felt super confident or I love it.
‘It’s weird for me to not have my hair but you know if it means that I take a bit of my confidence away to give these girls their confidence, then I’ll do that.’
Kaz and her mother both cut their hair so they could make a wig for children who had lost their hair for various reasons.

The former Love Island star, 29, who appeared on the ITV reality show in 2018, took to Instagram on Sunday to share pictures of herself holding her chopped locks after shearing her long tresses off her head (pictured before)
She explained: ‘You know what she did. She literally went “I’m going to do it too” on the day and I was like “what” and she was like “yeah.”
‘And they were like “how short do you want to go?” and she was like “the same.” So they shaved her head and she just sat there meditating.’
Kaz has raised more than £13,000 for a children’s hair loss charity after shaving her head.
She is raising funds for charity Little Lady Locks which relieves the needs of children up to the age of 18 who are suffering with hair loss due to alopecia or other conditions by the provision of wigs and hair systems.
The television star wrote on Instagram: ‘Over the last few months I have been working closely with @littleladylocks charity. In this time I have met some incredibly brave and inspiring girls and have seen first hand the lengths @ashley_marie_hair goes to for them, helping regain their confidence after hair loss.
‘I have seen how much these wigs have made a positive impact on their lives, and have since made it my mission to help as many girls as I can.
‘So yesterday I decided to cut all my hair off – to create a wig for a little girl who needs it.
‘I’m determined to spread awareness of this beautiful charity and hope you all see my dedication to this cause. But it is not as simple as cutting off my hair. It costs the charity £500 to pay the wig makers to turn my hair into a wig!!! That’s why this charity desperately needs our help.
‘It broke my heart when @ashley_marie_hair told me she was close to shutting down because they just don’t have the money or support. Let’s get the funds to get all the referrals seen to this month so the girls don’t have to wait any longer to feel like themselves again. Please help me spread the word.

‘I will also be running @manchestermarathon TOMORROW showcasing my new look (thank you) please support me guys with whatever you can, there are now 26 girls on that waiting list who currently really need our help.
‘This really means a lot to me and I won’t stop until we have put a smile on all their faces.’
She added: ‘P.S After my mum met the girls and heard all of their stories, she decided last minute to do the same. What a legend, my inspiration always. Me and my mum will be combining our hair to make the wig. Remember every little helps! Thank you x.’
Kaz also participated in the Manchester Marathon for the cause on Sunday.
Last year, Kaz revealed she had suffered from hair loss as a result of ‘stress’ after she was held in a Dubai prison on suspicion of drug offences.
She was detained at Abu Dhabi airport while transferring to a flight to Thailand where she says she was going to carry out voluntary work.
Following the ordeal, Kaz revealed her hair had thinned as she shared a picture of a bald patch at the front of her head.
Alongside the images, Kaz wrote: ‘I’ve just arrived in the Dominican Republic to celebrate my best friends birthday. Lucky us.
‘But due to recent stress, I’m experiencing hair loss. It’s got a lot thinner, I also have a small bald patch right at the front of my head.
‘I’m trying to cover it by changing my parting or wearing one of my @kazbands (of course) but when I tie my hair up it’s still so noticeable.
‘In all honesty Im pretty sure it’s getting worse. I’m not usually one to care too much about what I look like but its starting to affect my confidence. If anyone has gone through something similar I’d really appreciate your advice or any products/treatments you’d recommend.

Kaz also set up a JustGiving page and had raised £13,309 of her £15,000 target by Saturday night

‘Feel free to comment below, you’d really be helping me out and hopefully others reading this too. P.S who knew that you can wear your Kazband inside out to get rid of the bow? Not me!’
In February last year, Kaz spoke out about being arrested in the United Arab Emirates on suspicion of drug offences and held in a Dubai prison.
In 2020, she was filmed appearing to snort lines of white powder in Dubai when hordes of influencers flocked there to escape Covid-19 restrictions in the UK, claiming they were there for work.
Speaking her ‘own truth’ on Instagram, Kaz said: ‘Hi everyone. I wanted to do this video to speak my own truth and use my own voice about a situation that’s happened to me.
‘I feel like I owe it to my followers and I owe it to myself to get closure about this situation because it’s been a good few years and I’m ready to move forward now.’
She went on: ‘In 2020, I was in Dubai. I was filmed – it was me in the video, no one forced me to do that – it was a time of my life where I definitely didn’t love myself at all, probably. And this is reflected in what I was doing to my body and who I surrounded myself with.’
‘[The video] later got leaked and then, more recently, I was on my way to Thailand,’ Kaz further explained.
‘I had an amazing job offer. I was so excited for this job offer guys, it was like my dream job and I was staying up all night researching and, yeah, I did not think about the transit in Abu Dhabi and that it would be an issue for me because, obviously, I wasn’t thinking and… yeah, everything happens for a reason.
‘I was then detained in Abu Dhabi and kept in custody from Monday through to Friday, which is when they released me.
‘I was very accepting of the situation and I was ready for whatever was going to happen to me because, at the end of the day, I take full accountability. I don’t lie. I said that that was me in the video and explained the situation, it was a long time ago, etc.’
The former Love Island star explained she’s had a lot of messages of concerns from her followers, largely warning her about her friends in her circle.
However, Kaz cleared up that the leaked video of her with a white substance was recorded by an ex, not one of her pals.
In 2020, she was filmed appearing to snort lines of white powder in Dubai when hordes of influencers flocked there to escape Covid-19 restrictions in the UK
Kaz was one of many influencers who had travelled to Dubai for ‘work purposes’ when travel was banned for UK citizens during the height of the lockdown in 2020
The star then later took to Instagram Stories to clarify that the ex in question was not Love Island star Theo Campbell, who she dated from March 2019 to February 2020.
She wrote: ‘It wasn’t Theo! We are friends now and just filmed a show together please stop sending him abuse. It was a relationship that I kept private. Thank you for all the love on my recent video love you all.’
Kaz was arrested and an insider claimed ‘that her name obviously raised a red flag’ when her passport was checked in the UAE’s capital.
She was then moved to a Dubai prison, where she was reportedly refused a phone call to her family, but was permitted to send a single email.
A Foreign Office spokesman said at the time: ‘We are in contact with the local authorities following the arrest of a British national in the United Arab Emirates.’
Dubai has recently liberalised its drugs laws with first-time offenders given a minimum of three months in prison and a fine of between £4,559 and £22,799. Previously, offenders would have faced a minimum of four years in prison for any drug use.
After serving jail time, suspects are then deported to their home state – in Kaz’s case to the UK – and banned from returning to the UAE. Sentences for drug-trafficking can include the death penalty.
