Kaye Adams Shares New Morning Routine and Public Support After BBC ‘Bullying Probe’

Kaye Adams has revealed how much her life has changed in the weeks since she was accused of bullying junior staff members at BBC Scotland.

The TV and radio star, 62, who earns around £155,000 a year, was removed from her position following the allegations, which were brought under the broadcaster’s Call It Out scheme.

In the new episode of How To Be 60, the podcast she co hosts with Karen MacKenzie, Kaye reflected on a ‘pocket of joy’ over the past week and said she received some unexpected support from strangers.

‘They’ve been a bit thin on the ground,’ she admitted of joyful moments, before revealing: ‘Yesterday I was out with the dog Bee, and two women separately came up and hugged me. One I kinda knew from years ago. The other person I’d never seen before in my life.’

‘It was just one of those moments. It was lovely,’ she admitted, before quipping: ‘She had lovely bosoms as well. I could have stayed there all day quite frankly. It was really nice.’

Kaye also revealed her new morning routine now she isn’t appearing on the BBC as she admitted ‘I tell you I could not work from home.’

‘All of my working life I’ve had a deadline. Everything has been about a deadline, you know, like the show starts at 1 o’clock, it starts at 9 o’clock, der der der. And I am definitely conditioned to that now, there’s no doubt about it, I’m like Pavlov’s Dog.’

‘I mean I’ve got quite a bit of stuff to do – got to try and make this podcast make money, for a start – but because there’s no deadlines I mean oh my god I’m a champion faffer. Oh my god I could faff for Scotland!’

‘I just don’t have that discipline. I’ve got to try and impose deadlines myself but that’s quite hard.’

She admitted she has struggled to get energised in the morning now she doesn’t have to wake up early, confessing she has ‘given up’ on eating breakfast.

Kaye also complained about the temperature in her house as she refuses to put on the heating during the day, explaining: ‘Now I’m spending more time at home, I realise how cold it is. Oh my god. In fact, Bee the dog and I go out for a walk to warm up. It’s nine degrees on the thermometer and I’m just not putting it up.’

‘I go orange at about half past 6 / 7, but I don’t go orange before then. So I wear my house coat because I love my house coat – my dressing gown – but I’ve noticed that Bee has started to shiver when she’s on the couch, so I bought her a dressing gown as well, a doggy dressing gown.’

‘The two of us sit in our dressing gown, and then when it gets really cold we go out for a walk to warm up.’

Kaye previously spoke to The Mail on Sunday about the bullying allegations, stating: ‘After three of the most distressing weeks of my professional life and seeing my previously untarnished name publicly dragged through the mud, BBC Scotland has still not provided me with any details of the allegations which have been made against me.’

'Yesterday I was out with the dog Bee, and two women separately came up and hugged me. One I kinda knew from years ago. The other person I'd never seen before in my life,' she said

The Strictly Come Dancing star added that she had been ‘inundated with messages of support from people who I have dealt with both personally and professionally over the decades and I thank them from the bottom of my heart.’

The Mail on Sunday revealed that BBC chiefs are quizzing staff about the presenter’s conduct ‘over a number of years’ as part of their ongoing probe .

Staff who currently work with Kaye at BBC Radio Scotland and those who have worked with her during her 15 years at the station in Glasgow are being questioned by officials at the state broadcaster.

The Mail on Sunday also revealed that the bullying investigation was launched by the BBC following concerns raised about an alleged ‘shouting incident’ during a debriefing session at the station attended by Kaye, BBC’s new Head of Radio Victoria Easton Riley and other members of staff.

Kaye denied any incident happened, but said: ‘I remember Ms Easton Riley standing at the back of a debrief meeting – in an open plan office – on one occasion, but there was certainly no shouting on my part. It’s not my style.’

The Mail on Sunday said it believed investigators are still gathering information about the star’s alleged conduct at the broadcaster, dating back a number of years, before the details are presented to her.

A senior BBC Scotland figure said: ‘Interviews have been taking place with those working on the show and those who have previously worked with her.

‘It’s not just about one incident; they are looking back over the years. A number of people have spoken about experiences they’ve had with Kaye but the investigation is still ongoing.’

A second BBC Scotland source said: ‘The atmosphere is strained at PQ [Pacific Quay – BBC Scotland’s headquarters].

‘The team working on the morning programme are keeping quiet about everything, just keeping their heads down and getting on with the job.

‘There’s a lot of confusion about what the BBC are actually doing and why Kaye hasn’t been told about what is being investigated.’

A BBC Scotland spokesperson said: ‘We would not comment on any individual case. If any complaints or concerns are raised, we have robust internal processes in place to manage these.’
