Katy Perry’s Reluctant Romance with Justin Trudeau Sparks Spicy Reactions from His Ex-Wife

To be a Prime Minister, an ability to negotiate and strategize is key, combined with a level of tenacity and sheer determination to not only get elected in the first place, but to stay in power.

And when it comes to Justin Trudeau’s love life, these skills appear to have served him well.

The Canadian politician, 53, was relentless in his pursuit of Katy Perry, according to an insider, who has told the Daily Mail that the unlikely pair were secretly messaging for months and are now fully ‘exclusive.’

‘Justin was persistent when it came to dating Katy,’ the source said. ‘She enjoys his company and thinks he is incredibly smart, but she was initially scared to get into anything so fast, or even at all, after her breakup and she was also focusing on her world tour.

‘But Justin continued to be present, continued showing up and wanting to be with her.’

The couple were first pictured walking around Mount Royal Park in Montreal before being spotted on an intimate dinner date in in July, just weeks after Perry, 40, announced her split from fiancé Orlando Bloom, 48.

Soon followed a frenzy over how they met, which reportedly occurred at an event they both attended, what they could possibly have in common and whether they really were dating.

But buzzing romance rumors were quickly extinguished, with their rendezvous branded ‘just a hangout’ amid reports that the pair had no plans to meet up again.

Then, all fell silent… at least until this weekend when exclusive pictures obtained by the Daily Mail showed the couple kissing and cuddling aboard Perry’s yacht, the Caravelle, off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.

Clearly enamored with his new woman, a shirtless Trudeau could be seen cheekily grabbing Perry’s backside as she draped her arms around his neck – their intimate encounter seemingly rendering them oblivious to a passing boat.

A witness who took the snaps last month, said: ‘She pulled up her boat next to a small public whale-watching boat, then they started making out. I didn’t realize who she was with until I saw the tattoo on the guy’s arm and I immediately realized it was Justin Trudeau.’

Privacy is a shared concern for the new couple who, despite their recent frolicking, have no plans to broadcast their romance.

After all, Trudeau was said to have been put-out by the hysteria over their July dinner, with an insider previously telling the Daily Mail he ‘wasn’t thrilled about the pictures getting out.’

‘Katy didn’t seem to care nearly as much, but he was the one who was bothered,’ a source told us at the time. ‘It didn’t chase him away or anything, but it wasn’t ideal.’

The duo was seen leaning over a table at the city’s Le Violon restaurant, sipping on cocktails and feasting on several different dishes, including one featuring lobster. After dinner, they went into the kitchen to thank the staff for their meal.

Despite his reservations, the former Canadian Prime Minister attended Perry’s concert two days later, standing where he would easily be spotted.

‘One thing that was important to her and will continue to be is not broadcasting their relationship,’ our source said. ‘Katy has no care for the public to know who she is dating. She wants it to happen naturally as has been the case so far.’

It has been a tough few months for both stars – with Perry weathering a poorly received album, 143, her much derided Blue Origin space flight and her split from Bloom, with whom she has four-year-old daughter Daisy. The couple had been together since 2016, with the British actor proposing on Valentine’s Day in 2019, with a giant flower-shaped rock, believed to be worth $5 million.

As for how Perry’s ex feels about her new relationship, a second insider told the Daily Mail the singer ‘doesn’t know what Orlando thinks about Justin and she doesn’t care.’

‘He’s free to do whatever he wants too. She’s happy and having fun, which she’s allowed to do. So is he,’ the source added.

Meanwhile, Trudeau is navigating life outside of 24 Sussex after his resignation in January following a dramatic fall from grace.

Like Perry, he has also been learning how to co-parent his three children – Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11 – since splitting from his wife Sophie Gregoire in 2023 after 20 years.

Perry is said to ‘love how he is as a father,’ with our source claiming she ‘didn’t expect to get enamored with him, but she did.’

So enamored is she that they have made it work despite her 91-date Lifetimes world tour. She is currently on the European leg and will wrap up for good on December 7.

‘She likes that she still has some of her tour to go, so she won’t be with Justin all the time,’ the first insider said. ‘But she is happy enough with him, that absence is making the heart grow fonder. Their connection is very strong right now and they are exclusive – it is no longer dates here and there.’

Amid the new couple’s romantic display, Trudeau’s ex has shared a mysterious message about ‘letting go’ of love.

The television host, 50, spoke powerfully about the art of not holding on to love in a new Instagram post uploaded on Monday.

‘Sometimes we forget that nothing we love is ever meant to be kept,’ she said. ‘The people, the places, even the moments that once felt infinite, right?

‘Time asks us not to cling to them, but yet we do. I do because to hold on feels safer than to let go.’

In the post, Gregoire added that ‘love was never about possession’ and ‘we make space for the truth of connection, intimacy, the memory, for the lesson.’

‘So maybe, loves deepest teaching is this: to stand open hearted in the face of impermanence. We honor what has been and to trust that letting go is also a form of keeping inside us where no loss can erase it in a way,’ she added.

The Daily Mail has contacted reps for Perry and Trudeau for comment.
