Katy Perry Struggled for Months Over Vulnerable New Song About Split from Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry has admitted that she ‘struggled for months’ with the idea of releasing her new song, following her split from Orlando Bloom.

The singer, 41, surprised fans on Thursday by dropping her latest hit, Bandaids, which features obvious references to her relationship with the actor, 48, and hints at the reason for their breakup.

And taking to her Instagram on Sunday, she confessed to holding off the song’s release for months, because she found it ‘scary to be vulnerable’.

Sharing a slew of behind-the-scenes snaps from the gory music video, Katy thanked her fans for their support for Bandaids and explained she hoped it would help others in a similar situation to ‘find the strength to keep going like I have’.

She wrote: ‘thank you for the love on bandaids… tbh I struggled for months with the idea of putting this song out… even after all these years it can be scary to be vulnerable…

‘but hopefully the lyrics of this song resonate with someone going through what I have been through and maybe they won’t feel so alone and will find the strength to keep going like I have ❤️’.

The release comes after Katy and Orlando separated in June, after dating on-and-off for almost a decade and welcoming daughter Daisy Dove, five, in 2020.

And the lyrics of Bandaids hint towards the breakdown of their relationship, with Katy also crediting Daisy with giving her the strength to keep going.

The song begins with the hitmaker singing about trying to save a relationship, saying: ‘Hand to God, I promised, I tried / There’s no stone left unturned.

‘It’s not what you did, it’s what you didn’t/ You were there, but you weren’t. Got so used to you letting me down / No use tryna send flowers now / Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t.’

In the second verse she adds: ‘Wе were perfect ’til we weren’t / Now we’ve got too many splinters.’

In the chorus, Katy details all the ways she’s tried to fix things, singing: ‘Tried all the medications / Lowered my expectations / Made every justification / Bleeding out, bleeding out, bleeding out slow / Band-Aids over a broken heart.’

While she insinuates that her lover is putting no effort into the relationship, not even giving her the bare minimum, as she fumes: ‘It’s not that complicated / To ask me how my day is. I’m flatlining trying to save this.’

The music video sees Katy being hit by a string of unfortunate accidents, including her hand getting stuck in a garbage disposal, her shoelace being caught in an escalator, and a tree log falling off a truck to smash into her car.

After getting her foot caught on the tracks as an oncoming train speeds towards her, Katy catches sight of a daisy and admits despite the heartbreak, she would do the relationship ‘all over again’.

Freeing herself at the last second, she sings: ‘If I had to do it all over again / I would still do it all over again / The love that we made was worth it in the end’.

Since the breakup, the pop star has made headlines for her new romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Last month, they were snapped holding hands in Paris and kissing on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara.

A source recently claimed that Katy is ‘really into’ Justin, 53, telling Us Weekly: ‘Katy is really into it. She’s very happy. She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship.’

They: ‘Their friends think they are a good match, but he actually hasn’t met a lot of her friends yet.’
