A trip to a local hair salon led to unsavoury accusations of black-fishing on Thursday after Katie Price showed off a rather striking new look with Instagram followers.
The former glamour model opted to ditch her trademark straight hair in favour of a distinctive auburn balayage after paying a visit to celebrity hair-colourist t Dominic Ackah-Amihere.
But it wasn’t just her voluminous curls that caught the eye as she showed off the end result while posing for a social media photo alongside Ackah-Amihere, who captioned the post: ‘CUSTOM PIECE FOR Wella. P.S we Had 3 minutes to throw this on and conceal 26 inches of Hair.’
Reposting the photo for the benefit of her 2.7 million Instagram followers, Price, 47, found herself at the heart of an unexpected and unintentional race storm, with numerous fans commenting on her notably darker skin tone – the result of a fake tan.
Commenting on the post, one follower snapped: ‘Turning herself into a woman of colour now? What next?!’
A second added: ‘What in the blackface is going on here????’

A third commented: ‘Why are you looking black?? all love and respect tho Katie! You do you girl and do what you gotta do!!’
Referring to the concept of white people appropriating ethnic minorities by altering their appearance to look black, a fourth simply added: ‘Black fishing.’
Others had a rather more positive take on the former glamour model and her new look, with one commenting: ‘I think it is what it is. It’s just dark tan that needs to fade! I Katie Price a woman who hustles and makes mega money! And looks after her kids!!’
A second added: ‘Katie’s hair is absolutely gorgeous. Crawl under a stone haters!’
While a third raved: ‘This hair suits you so well!’
A fourth impressed follower posted: ‘The iconicness is off the charts!! Amazing work.’
Speaking to The Sun earlier this year, the thrice-married star reflected on some of her more unlikely romantic conquests.
She said: ‘Men have been the downfall of me – my career has always been good and men have let me down.

‘I’ve picked the wrong men. They’ve been toxic or given me mental abuse, physical abuse, narcissistic behaviour, gaslighting, jealousy. I got used to that. I couldn’t spot a red flag.
‘Now I’ve had therapy, I can spot signs and realise what unhealthy relationships are.
‘I feel good, I feel settled, I feel excited when I come home at night.’
Price’s exes include footballer Dwight Yorke, with whom she shares son Harvey, 22.
She married singer Peter Andre in 2005, and they share son Junior, 20, and daughter Princess, 18, but divorced four years later.
Following her split from Andre, she exchanged vows with cage fighter Alex Reid in a whirlwind Las Vegas ceremony in 2010, but their union lasted less than a year.
Price’s third husband Kieran Hayler was this week charged with three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl (pictured with his ex-wife in 2014)

In 2013, Price married her third husband, dancer Kieran Hayler, but despite renewing their wedding vows three times, they split in 2018, and divorced three years later.
Hayler, 38, was this week charged with three counts of rape and one count of sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl.
He is alleged to have committed the offences between June and October 2016 – in the middle of his marriage to the ex-glamour model.

According to The Sun, she confirmed to the audience that she was aware of the situation.
The mother-of-five said: ‘The thing that is coming out tonight…I’m still in shock. I could have been like, ‘F**k it, I’m not going to do this show with that coming out.
‘But I’m professional and I’m doing it.’
