Katherine Heigl reunited with former Grey’s Anatomy co-star Ellen Pompeo and the hit show’s cast at the 2024 Emmys on Monday – 14 years after she quit the show amid rumblings of an onset feud.

Heigl, 45, who starred as medical intern Dr. Izzie Stevens in the show from 2005-2010, wowed in a scarlet gown as she joined Meredith Grey star Pompeo, 54, Chandra Wilson  54 (Dr. Miranda Bailey), Justin Chambers, 53 (Dr. Alex Karev) and James Pickens Jr., 69 (Dr. Richard Webber).

The star looked delighted as she linked arms with Pickens Jr. while wowing in her strapless gown paired with diamond jewelry.

The cast united to mark the show’s 20th season, making it the longest-running prime time medical drama in TV history.

They also presented the Emmy for supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie.

Announcing the stars, host Anthony Anderson said: ‘With 39 Emmy nominations and multiple wins. From the series please welcome Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr., five-time Emmy nominee Chandra Wilson and Emmy winner Katherine Heigl.

‘When the first episode of Grey’s Anatomy aired in March of 2005, I’m not sure if Shonda Rhimes knew that she had created a show that would have a lasting imprint on television and create lifelong friendships.

‘Over 400 episodes and counting, a tribute to everyone who has been a part of our family.

‘And yes, there have been changes over the years, but the one constant is the amazing fanbase.

‘You stayed with us through plane crashes, superstorms, earthquakes and a global pandemic, and as we start our 20th season, we are officially the longest-running prime time medical drama in TV history.

‘And that would not be possible without all of you, so to all our fans, and to all of you, thank you.

‘Now what? Oh right. And now here are the nominees for supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie’ with Paul Walter Hauser scooping the award for Black Bird.

Katherine told Extra of the reunion: ‘I haven’t seen my old friends in years, so this is really fun and exciting.

‘[James Picken Jr.]’s like the kindest, gentlest soul… so is Chandra, Ellen and Justin is gonna be really fun.’

Pompeo recently left the show after 18 years while Heigl departed back in 2010 following rumors of on-set feuds and a reputation for being ‘difficult’ to work with.

Addressing her controversial departure to Variety last year, Heigl said: ‘I was so naive. I got on my soapbox and I had some things to say, and I felt really passionate about this stuff,’ Katherine said. ‘I felt really strongly. I felt so strongly that I also got a megaphone out on my soapbox. There was no part of me that imagined a bad reaction.

‘I felt really justified in how I felt about it and where I was coming from. I’ve spent most of my life — I think most women do — being in that people-pleasing mode. It’s really disconcerting when you feel like you have really displeased everybody. It was not my intention to do so, but I had some things to say, and I didn’t think I was going to get such a strong reaction.

‘I was in my late 20s. It took me until probably my mid- to late-30s to really get back to tuning out all of the noise and going, “But who are you? Are you this bad person? Are you ungrateful? Are you unprofessional? Are you difficult?” Because I was confused! I thought maybe I was. I literally believed that version, and felt such shame for such a long time, and then had to go, “Wait. Who am I listening to? I’m not even listening to myself. I know who I am.”

Pompeo offered: ‘You were just a little early, because they came out with this thing where everybody has their own megaphone and they get a blue check. It’s called Twitter. You were just a little ahead of your time, lady.’

Katherine also described how the ‘confidence’ she got from starring on the hit show led to her getting ‘mouthy.’

‘Then Grey’s hit, and the success happened. I think that gave me this confidence that was a false sense of confidence. It was rooted in something that couldn’t and maybe wouldn’t always last for me. So then I started getting real mouthy, because I did have a lot to say, and there were certain boundaries and things that I was not OK with being crossed. I didn’t know how to fight that.’

But Pompeo defended Heigl and acknowledged her co-star was placed in a difficult position.

‘But also, can I mention the incredible amount of attention that you got very quickly is another thing that is like a disease in this town. Everybody gets built up, built up, built up, built up. They create this thing, and then almost wait for something to happen,’ Pompeo said.

‘As an outsider looking in, I saw a lot around you that wasn’t anything to do with you, or your fault. Not many people would know how to react to that much attention, that much focus, that much pressure. Who can be the most gracious, perfect person when all that’s … Certainly, some people are capable of it. OK, Zendaya is capable of it,’ Pompeo added

The strike-delayed ceremony gathers Hollywood’s biggest stars as they celebrate the best of primetime television over the year of 2023.

Comedian and Black-ish star Anthony Anderson will be making his debut as the host alongside an all-Black executive producer team for the first time in Emmy history.

Jason Bateman, Quinta Brunson, Stephen Colbert, Jon Cryer, Jodie Foster, Jon Hamm, Ken Jeong, Joel McHale are among the stars announced to take the stage on Monday.

And the nominees include Pedro Pascal, Hannah Waddingham, Keri Russell, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Hart, Elisabeth Moss, Kieran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk.

The awards ceremony normally occurs in September but was delayed because writers and actors were on strike at the time last year.

Due to the industry strikes, the Emmys were postponed to 2024 on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in the United States and arrives in the heels of the Golden Globes.

At this year's Emmys, Succession leads nominations with 27 nods. The series' stars Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox are up against each other for Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama series. Their co-star Sarah Snook is also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a drama

Like at the Globes — which celebrated 2023’s top films and television shows on January 7 — Succession dominates most categories.

At this year’s Emmys, Succession leads nominations with 27 nods.

The Last of Us follows closely behind with 24, The White Lotus with 23, and Ted Lasso with 21.

Succession is in the running for the Outstanding Drama Series for the third time after previously winning the title in 2020 and 2022.

The series’ stars Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong and Brian Cox are up against each other for Outstanding Lead Actor in a drama series.

Their co-star, Sarah Snook, is also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a drama.

The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal is up for lead actor in a drama while his co-star, Bella Ramsey, is nominated for lead actress.

Bad Sisters’ Sharon Horgan, Yellowjackets’ Melanie Lynskey, The Handmaid’s Tale’s Elisabeth Moss and The Diplomat’s Keri Russell are also in the same category for best leading actress in a drama.

The Bear’s duo Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri are also up for lead actor and supporting actress, respectively, for their roles in the restaurant dramedy’s debut season.

Due to the industry strikes and delay, the first season of The Bear is in the contending rather than the second season, which was released this past summer.

For that reason, many of nominated television shows, which were released up to 19 months ago, are now receiving their moment.

Netflix’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is up for Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series against Beef, Daisy Jones & The Six, Fleishman Is In Trouble and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

For Outstanding Comedy Series, The Bear is up against Ted Lasso as well as Abbott Elementary, Barry, Jury Duty, Only Murders In The Building, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Wednesday.

At this year’s award show, there will be a series of cast reunions and recreations to honor and commemorate beloved, classic television series like The Sopranos, Cheers, I Love Lucy and All In The Family.

Stars from Grey’s Anatomy, American Horror Story and Ally McBeal will also reunite onstage while presenting awards at the Emmys.

Fan-favorite comedians and presenter duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who is also nominated for Outstanding Host of a Reality or Competition Program, will also take the stage at the award ceremony.

The show will kick off at 5 p.m. PT and can be streamed live on Fox or FXX through streaming services such as Hulu + Live TV, Sling, DirecTV, YouTube TV and FuboTV.

The day after the award ceremony, the Emmys will be available to stream on Hulu.

The first Emmy Award was held back in 1949 to celebrate the artistic and technical merit for the television industry.
