Kate McKinnon is heading back to the Saturday Night Live stage and she channeled a modern holiday classic to announce it.
The 39-year-old comedian — who exited SNL in 2022 after 10 seasons — recreated the scene from Home Alone 2 where Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin makes a holiday wish at the Rockefeller Christmas tree during a hilarious promo for her SNL hosting gig on December 16.
Dressed up like the precocious preteen from the 1992 film, the Barbie actress rattles off all the good things she’s done over the past year to land her on Santa’s ‘nice list’ in hopes of hosting the famed sketch show.
‘I know it’s a big ask but hear me out,’ she says to the tree in the clip. ‘I’ve been very thoroughly cleaning my cat food cans before I recycle them.’
‘I was in Barbie — I played the hot one,’ she continues her plea. ‘But mostly I wanna host cause I really miss it.’

The star then expresses what she missed most about the show, including the Studio 8H stage, her interactions with head boss Lorne Michaels, and the experience of donning ‘Giuliani teeth,’ as she frequently impersonated the former NYC mayor.
Her plea is interrupted when Kenan Thompson comes outside to let her know she’ll be hosting alongside musical guest Billie Eilish.
Kate joined SNL in 2012 and became one of the show’s breakout stars over her decade run.
She even won two Emmys for supporting actress in a comedy series.
The star left after the 2021-2022 season along with other mainstays Pete Davidson, Aidy Bryant and Kyle Mooney.
‘I thought about it for a very long time, and it was very, very hard,’ Kate said of the exit on Live With Kelly and Ryan in July 2022.
‘All I ever wanted to do in my whole life was be on Saturday Night Live. So, I did, I loved it, I had the best decade, and then I was just like, my body was tired, and I felt like it was time.’
SNL’s Chloe Fineman recently told Vanity Fair that she had learned about Kate’s departure at the finale’s table read.

Home Alone 2 came out two years after the original
‘As soon as the table read happened and Kate read her alien-abduction thing and she went to be with the aliens I was like, What? I had no idea,’ Fineman said of the sendoff for Kate’s alien-abducted character, Colleen.
‘I think a lot of us have gotten to watch these geniuses create magic. I’d much rather be at the show and get to be there with Kate and Aidy and learn from them rather than start when they’re gone. So I feel really lucky.’
Eilish returns to SNL for the third time after first serving as musical guest in 2019 and pulling double duty as both host and guest in 2021.
