Kate Hudson leaves listeners all saying the same thing about her singing as she performs ‘first ever live show’ after releasing album Glorious

BBC Radio 2 listeners were all saying the same thing as Kate Hudson performed her ‘first ever live gig’ on Thursday morning during Vernon Kay’s Piano Room show.

The award winning actress, 45, who released her first album Glorious last year, showed off her voice as she was accompanied by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Kate performed a classic track, Talk About Love, a new song – Right On Time, and a cover of Ariana Grande’s we can’t be friends (wait for your love).

Speaking live during the show, which was held at the BBC Maida Vale studios, Kate admitted she was ‘nervous’ but was ‘excited’ to sing live.

She said: ‘I’m excited. I’m a little nervous. It’s my first live show, ever! So I’m just honoured to be here. I love to sing. I love to write and it’s this getting out in front of people has been really, really amazing for me. Very different.’

Following the performances, fans rushed to social media to say they were ‘blown away’ by the Bride Wars star’s ‘fantastic’ voice.

They wrote: ‘I’ve got to admit I was expecting much and was blown away by how great she was. You would think she’d been singing with the orchestra for years;

‘For someone who isn’t a seasons singer I think Kate was the best one yet that you’ve had there this month;

‘What a great surprise this mornings piano room was. How fantastic was @katehudson – wasn’t expecting that;

‘Wow, best piano room so far, such a beautiful talent; What an absolutely incredible voice. Really hope she does tour; Absolutely brilliant, really enjoyed listening’.

Kate, who has starred in How to Lose a Guy in 10 days and Glass Onion, admitted she is now at a crossroads between acting and singing but said she is not going to ‘overthink’ it and would like to go on tour.

She said: ‘I’m not going to overthink it. I just love it. It’s more like I feel I just want to keep singing, and I’d really like to go on tour, and hopefully that will happen at some point.

‘But I just want to keep making music, and I want to keep making movies, and I’d actually like to do both at one point. I mean, that’s my next goal.’

Despite being an award-winning actress, Kate’s first love was originally music as she was a musical theatre fan.

She added: ‘Oh yeah, first and foremost. My love for performance started with musicals. So musical theatre for me.’

Elsewhere in the chat, Kate said her album Glorious was inspired by her relationship, failed relationship and her children.

She said: ‘I usually just wrote for myself when I felt it and this was like, I had deadlines and had to really sit and write the song on the spot, and kind of open up and just feel what was coming to me.

‘What really came in this, the first album, was just all of the different ways I’ve loved, whether it be my with my children, whether it be through relationships or failed relationships. It just became this big love letter.

‘I wanted to put up something out which is honest and hope that people liked it, and, and I love to, I love to write like I love a writing prompt. Don’t get me wrong, you know, but I just had to do it, and I hope I get to do it again.’
