Kate Hudson has revealed she was ‘afraid’ to pursue her ‘first love’ music before telling herself ‘f*** it,’ and cutting her new album.
The 45-year-old became a movie star in 2000, playing a glamorous but fragile rock groupie in the beloved Cameron Crowe film Almost Famous.
After shooting to fame as an actress, she devoted herself to Hollywood and let her musical ambitions drift into the ‘back seat.’
She did get a chance to show off her vocal abilities in various acting projects, performing original songs in the movies Nine and Music.
Now, she is finally releasing her first studio album Glorious this Friday, after realizing: ‘If I don’t do this, it’ll be a great regret,’ she told People in a cover interview.

Kate radiated folk music chic while fronting the magazine, modeling a flowing off-white blouse with a pair of jeans and letting her lush blonde mane flow free.
The daughter of Goldie Hawn teamed subtle gold jewelry with a smattering of costume pieces, including a pair of large tortoiseshell bracelets.
She revealed that Glorious was ‘really a lifetime in the making,’ adding that music had been her ‘first love’ throughout her career.
When she made Almost Famous, her musical horizons were broadened thanks to the director, who was originally a rock journalist.
‘I think [he] connected with the fact that I loved music and saw that in me, but he really blew the lid open for so much music for me,’ she said.
‘I was 19, and he just filled me with all this great music that I’d never heard. That was the beginning of everything for me,’ Kate explained.
As her career proceeded into the 2000s, she became a romantic comedy staple, starring in such pictures as How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, Raising Helen, Fool’s Gold, My Best Friend’s Girl and You, Me And Dupree.
‘I became really sort of successful young. So going and making a record or pursuing music took a very far back seat to what was happening in my career at the time, but I never lost sight of what I love,’ shared Kate.

In 2009 she sang the original song Cinema Italiano in Nine, a film adaptation of a 1970s Broadway musical, which was itself based on the Federico Fellini movie 8 1/2

Musicians have always been key figures in her life, dating back to her father Bill Hudson, with whom she has had an infamously checkered relationship.
From 2000 to 2007 she was married to The Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, with whom she shares her eldest son Ryder, 20.
She was later engaged to Muse frontman Matt Bellamy from 2011 to 2014, and over the course of their romance they welcomed a son called Bingham, 13.
Her current fiancé is another musician, Danny Fujikawa, and the couple are the proud parents of a five-year-old daughter called Rani Rose.
Over the course of her Hollywood career, she found opportunities to showcase her own musical talents by singing in movie musicals.
In 2009 she featured in Nine, a film adaptation of a 1970s Broadway musical of the same name, which was itself based on the Federico Fellini movie 8 1/2.
Kate delivered a showstopping performance of Cinema Italiano, an original number created especially for the movie by the stage show’s songwriter Maury Yeston.
While her acting work was on the backburner during the coronavirus lockdowns, Kate arrived at the realization that she should pursue music more seriously.

‘I was like: “If I don’t do this, it’ll be a great regret.” Sticking to status quo is not how I’ve ever lived my life,’ she reflected.
‘I’ve always been fearless in the decisions I’ve made, whether it is in relationships or in career, but this was the one thing that I was so afraid of. It’s like I switched something in my brain, and I was like: “I’m just going to do it. F*** it.”‘
In 2021 she could be heard signing again in Music, a movie directed by Sia and starring Kate alongside Maddie Ziegler of Dance Moms fame.
The film was a critical and commercial flop, with Sia coming in for slings and arrows in particular because of her depiction of autism, which she later revealed she has.
Kate, meanwhile, finally took the plunge and started working on her own studio album in the year that Music was released.
That year, she shot Rian Johnson’s movie Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, and shortly thereafter she began writing music for Glorious.
Putting the album together ‘has taken a long time’ as she ‘wanted it to feel perfect’ – and to that end she included her family on the record with her, including Danny who collaborated on the music and Rani who can be heard clapping on Glorious.
Love has been a major inspiration, whether from her mother Goldie Hawn, her stepfather Kurt Russell, her children, her friends or the men in her life.

‘I was like: “This is just a life well-loved.” Through all of the highs and the lows, then all the stuff that comes with what it is to love a partner, your friends, your children….What a glorious thing to have so much love,’ she mused.
