Karen Gillan at 2023 film premiere

Karen Gillan stunned in a grey jumper on Tuesday at the Film Independent Presents Los Angeles Premiere of her 2023 comedy film Late Bloomers.

The Scottish actress, 36, beamed as she took to the stage to discuss the film after its screening at Harmony Gold.

Karen paired the knit with a stunning pale blue ruffled skirt and she wore a maroon shirt underneath and sat next to Anna Greenfield, who wrote the film’s screenplay.

They were joined onstage by Film Independent’s Angela Lee, Late Bloomers’ director Lisa Steen, and the film’s producers Alexandra Barreto and Taylor Feltne.

Late Bloomers follows Louise (Karen), an aimless twenty-something musician who is recently single, is injured when she drunkenly breaks her hip.

Deadline Hollywood’s Damon Wise described as ‘an intimate, defiantly female-fronted indie, showcasing an engaging and refreshingly vanity-free performance from Karen Gillan’.

Jason Bailey of The Playlist felt the film was ‘predictable’ in places and had familiar tropes, but described it as ‘about as well-acted and enjoyable a version of this particular thing as you’re likely to find’.

Samantha Bergeson of IndieWire gave the film a ‘D’, writing that it ‘doesn’t open up in time to blossom into something great’ and its ‘whispers of emotional depth…come too little and too late’.

Karen’s last film was 2024 American crime thriller Sleeping Dogs and she will appear in sci-fi drama The Life Of Chuck alongside Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Mark Hamill later in the year.
