Justin Timberlake took to his social media platforms on Monday to reveal the cover art for his upcoming single, Selfish, as well as the song’s release date.
On the cover of the track, from forthcoming album, Everything I Thought I Was, the singer, 42, is pictured from behind, with only a part of his profile visible.
He is seen wearing a light grey shirt, as large yellow letters over his face spell out the single’s name, Selfish. In the caption of the project he wrote that fans can expect to listen to the new tune on Thursday, January 25th.
In another snap promoting Selfish — which is his first solo music project in almost six years — he is pictured from behind once again, as he looks out onto a vast landscape.
However, it wasn’t the mysterious cover that caught most people’s eyes, but the title of the song, with some calling it ‘appropriate’ and ‘autobiographical’ in the wake of his ex Britney Spears’, 42, recent claims about their former romance in her memoir.

Spears opened up about her relationship with Timberlake — who is now married to actress Jessica Biel, 41 — which spanned from 1999 to 2002, revealing she had an abortion after Timberlake had gotten her pregnant.
‘An autobiographical song based on the title,’ one commentator wrote.
‘Selfish? Oh yeah. I read that in The Woman in Me,’ someone else added, in reference to Britney’s memoir.
‘Given his past I’d say this is appropriately titled…’ yet another person chimed in.
Plenty of people also wrote that they will be streaming Britney’s song titled Selfish instead.
The pop star released the song as a bonus track on her Femme Fatale album in 2011.
‘Stream “Selfish” by Britney Spears instead,’ one wrote.
‘The only Selfish we’re streaming,’ someone else wrote with a link to Britney’s song.
‘I prefer Princess Of Pop,’ another one quipped.
It comes just a few months following the release of Spears’ book The Woman In Me in October.

‘It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy, Spears said in the fast-selling book about her pregnancy with Justin.
‘I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated.’
‘But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.’
She continued, ‘If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father. To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.’
Amid the fallout of the revelations from Spears, Timberlake turned off his Instagram comments October 26.
On January 8, he removed all of his photos and videos from his Instagram page. But on January 12 he began sharing promotional images for Selfish and enabled his comments once again.
Selfish marks his first new music as a solo artist in nearly six years, following the release of his 2018 album Man in the Woods.
Timberlake debuted the new single as he took the stage at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennessee, on Friday. Lyrics speak about jealousy in a relationship.
‘Uh, so if I get jealous, I can’t help it / I want every bit of you, I guess I’m selfish / It’s bad for my mental but I can’t fight it / When you’rе out, lookin’ like you do / But you can’t hide it, no.’
In addition to the free show, Justin debuted the trailer for his forthcoming album, Everything I Thought I Was.

The trailer seems to have drawn inspiration from Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City. It features a toy car being driven into a gas station in the middle of a desert.
Oscar winner Benicio Del Toro narrates the action. ‘What do we have here?’ the A-lister says at the top of the video.
‘Ooh, that’s a nice car! Wait, it’s a model. Did that say JT? OK, that sunset is definitely not real. Oh, there’s Justin!’ he narrates as the singer, standing at attention with his hands clasped and his back to the camera, enters the frame.
‘Why won’t he turn around? What the f**k is he staring at?’ he asks.
The snippet concludes as yellow words against a black screen that read: ‘Justin Timberlake Presents: Everything I Thought It Was’ come in to view.
