Ahead of the latest book from golf writer Alan Shipnuck on the civil war between LIV Golf and the PGA Tour, a quote was shared that riled up Justin Thomas.
The quote in the book was from an anonymous former Ryder Cup teammate of Rory McIlroy’s, who had some harsh words for the Irishman.
‘F**k Rory,’ the quote said. ‘I’m so sick of hearing about how he’s some kind of hero who is saving golf.
‘He’s bought and paid for like everybody else, it’s just that his money is coming from the other side… That he is being helf up as some kind of savior on Twitter and by all the fanboys with their s**tty podcasts tells you how little people really understand what’s going on.’
After this quote was shared on Twitter by CBS reporter Kyle Porter, Thomas left a reply criticizing Shipnuck.
Justin Thomas criticized golf writer Alan Shipnuck for using anonymous sources in a new book
After seeing an anonymous quote from Shipnuck’s book, the major winner blasted the writer
He later expanded: saying tour players are tired by the constant use of ‘unnamed sources’
‘I’d like to speak on behalf of a lot of Tour players and say we’re sick of @AlanShipnuck doing what he does,’ Thomas began.
‘Bring positivity and good stories to help grow the game of golf, not try and make money bashing guys, earning zero trust, with a lot of incorrect information. Ridiculous.’
When someone in the replies said that fans are eager in knowing the good sides and bad sides of players, Thomas agreed – but said Shipnuck’s methods of getting those quotes agitates players.
‘Not saying that everybody is perfect, we’re far from! Haha. Just frustrating when it’s time after time from unnamed sources commenting about guys bashing them. I do get it’s a part of it,’ the major winner said.
Shipnuck’s book, ‘LIV and Let Die’ has already generated interest for a number of leaked quotes.
One includes a foul-mouthed rant Brooks Koepka went on when discussing Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas.
Another example is when Tiger Woods reportedly barred Phil Mickelson from attending an Open Championship winners dinner in 2022 after the latter defected to LIV.
