Justin Bieber has a billion reasons to be proud of his wife Hailey. For that’s the number of dollars she just got for her skincare brand Rhode, which was acquired by e.l.f. Cosmetics on Wednesday.
Yet while Hailey celebrated with a sophisticated dinner in West Hollywood, looking effortlessly chic in a strapless black mini-dress and her ubiquitous dark glasses, her husband was nowhere to be seen.
The only ‘congratulations’ he managed – publicly at least – was a repost of the sale announcement on his Instagram, along with a picture of him grabbing his wife’s breasts, a proprietorial image that cast her more as an adoring fangirl who owed it all to him, than the self-made businesswoman and mother-of-one that she has become.
It’s the second misstep from Justin in as many weeks. Days ago, he rained all over his wife’s Vogue-cover parade when he posted a photo of Hailey – stunning during her shoot for the glossy – along with a caption in which the petulant man-baby made it all about him.
Dripping in Prada and Tiffany jewels, Hailey was pictured mid-shower for the ‘Wet Look’ shoot but it was nothing compared to the cold water poured over proceedings by her husbands’s back-handed compliment.
‘Yo this reminds me when Hailey and I got into a huge fight,’ he wrote. ‘I told hails that she would never be on the cover of Vogue, Yikes I know so mean.’

He rambled on about their marital spat, writing: ‘For some reason because I felt so disrespected, I thought I gotta get even.’
Still convinced it’s all about him, he went on, ‘I think as we mature, we realize that we’re not helping anything by getting even, we’re honestly just prolonging what we really want which is intimacy and connection.’
But has 31-year-old Justin ‘matured’? Because from where I’m sitting it doesn’t look like it.
Right now, Justin and Hailey, 28, could be one of the biggest power couples in the celebrity realm. But increasingly they just look like an out-of-step twosome, as Hailey comes into her own, and Justin languishes confused and lost somewhere in her wake.
Take his suprise performance at the SoFi stadium in Los Angeles on Friday. Ashen-faced and sweaty he stumbled around the stage while joining singer-songwriter SZA for a rendition of their collaboration, ‘Snooze.’
SZA cupped Justin’s chin and he kissed the palm of her hand, slobbering like a parched man who’d found water in the desert and clung to her waist like his footing depended on it.
‘My two favorite artists,’ said the long-suffering Hailey on her Instagram later. But really, isn’t the woman who already has an infant to care for tired of having two children to look after these days? Because as Justin flails, hollow cheeked and all-too-often bare chested, Hailey has come a long way since they met.
Then, she was best known as the daughter of the third-most famous Baldwin brother (Stephen).
Now, she’s a billionaire, stunningly beautiful and mother to her and Justin’s nine-month-old son, Jack Blues.

She’s also come through some serious health issues, including a ‘mini stroke,’ for which she was hospitalized in January 2023, and a life-threatening post-partum hemorrhage which she suffered after giving birth in August of last year.
Meanwhile, she’s contending with her seemingly imploding former teen-star spouse, who’s not so much having a brat summer as a perennial sabbatical.
Skulking around in oversized streetwear – James Cordon wants his hoodie back – sporting bad facial hair and low-slung jeans, 31-year-old Justin’s development is a more than a little arrested.
In fact, it all seems a bit more ‘pot’ than pop these days.
Despite drug-taking denials from his representatives, the singer was apparently spotted smoking what appeared to be marijuana while at Coachella in April, as well as a bong at the home of Australian singer-songwriter Eddie Benjamin in a photo posted on Instagram this month.
It’s no doubt a worrying time for the so-called ‘Beliebers’ longing for a return to the days of their idol simply sporting a helmet fringe and cherubic grin.
Interestingly, the timing of Bieber’s apparent derailing seems to chime with the scandal engulfing former friend and mentor Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, who is currently on trial in Manhattan having been federally indicted on a host of charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering. (He has pleaded not guilty.)
Then there’s Bieber’s rumored struggle to move on from long-term ex Selena Gomez, whose fiancé, Benny Blanco, he childishly unfollowed on Instagram in February around the time their engagement was announced. Yep, he’s really over that one.
Yet, there’s Hailey, loyal and committed as ever, using her new Vogue interview to spread the love and ‘shut out the noise’ over their relationship.
In an article peppered with gushing quotes she claims, ‘Justin is an amazing dad, a natural.’
Indeed, if the New York native is to be believed, it’s domestic bliss at Bieber towers – though she’ll have a tricky job to convince the masses.

There was this introspective humdinger from Justin, uttered in a 2022 interview with Apple Music’s Ibrahim Jamil ‘Ebro’ Darden, ‘I thought marriage would solve all my problems.’ (Subtext: It didn’t).
Dynamics have shifted in their relationship since the early days when Hailey was reductively derided as a love-struck fan desperate to land a peak-fame Bieber.
And more and more Justin seems unable to adapt, threatened by his blossoming wife whom he can’t seem to help himself undermining.
Just a couple of months ago during an Instagram livestream, a fan asked Justin about the Lyme disease with which he was diagnosed in January 2020.
When Hailey, who sat by her husband’s side, started sharing how difficult coping with it had been, Justin snapped: ‘They’re asking me because it’s my Lyme disease, not your Lyme disease. Why are you answering?’
‘Well, I was there with you, at the doctor’s office, every day for months,’ Hailey responded, not seeming to understand that just as it’s not her Lyme disease it’s not her behavior that’s the problem here.
Because these power struggles with his wife are a recurrent theme, and Justin’s self-centred reactions to her business sale and her Vogue cover are simply more of the same.
Justin is so used to being the center of his own universe that he’s too self-absorbed to recognize the value of the women by his side and instead behaves more like a sulky teen getting irritated with mom than an equal partner.
‘Is it too late now to say sorry?’ he famously trilled.
Probably not. Hailey seems a forgiving sort with endless good will and patience. That said, everyone has their limit.
