Actor Joshua Malina’s spouse of almost 28 years, Melissa Merwin, has filed for divorce.
Merwin in legal docs said that ‘irreconcilable differences’ were the cause of her split from The West Wing star, 58, TMZ reported Monday after reviewing docs in the case.
Merwin, a costume designer, had been wed to Malina, a native of New York City, since December of 1996.
She didn’t list a separation date on their split, according to the outlet.
Merwin has requested spousal support from Malina, the outlet reported, noting that the two are parents to children who are legal adults, so no child support was requested.

Malina and Merwin had been romantically-linked since 1996, as they initially crossed paths via Merwin’s sister Jennifer and her ex brother-in-law, actor Timothy Busfield.
