Jon Voight and ‘Canceled’ Director Collaborate on Secret Israel Film

Jon Voight is reportedly collaborating with a controversial ‘canceled’ filmmaker for his next movie.

The 86-year-old Oscar winner — who is the father of Angelina Jolie — has already shot a still-untitled film with X-Men director Bryan Singer, Variety reported on Wednesday.

The film, which is described as a historical drama, marks a comeback for Singer, 59, after he was fired toward the end of production on Bohemian Rhapsody in 2017, though he still retained a directing credit.

Singer has also faced several accusations of rape and sexual assault in recent years, which he has uniformly denied. He has never been charged with a crime related to the allegations.

The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Voight and Singer to request comment but hasn’t yet received responses.

Few details are available about the upcoming film, and Voight — who pitched President Donald Trump on a plan to save Hollywood earlier this year — is the only actor whose participation has been reported so far.

According to Variety, Voight and Singer shot their film in Greece back in 2023.

Yariv Horowitz, an Israeli filmmaker known for his 2012 war drama Rock The Casbah, is reportedly also connected to the production in an unspecified role.

Sources described Singer’s film as a period piece set in the Middle East that examines a father’s relationship with his son sometime in the late 1970s or early 1980s.

One source also said the movie is focused on an architect who is searching for salvation.

A source who had allegedly seen the movie’s final cut — but who was not part of the production — praised it as ‘a really well made film with awards-season potential.’

However, they also claimed the film is ‘going to be a huge hotbed of controversy.’

That’s reportedly because the film’s backdrop is the Israeli occupation of Lebanon.

Israel invaded Lebanon in 1978 as part of a military campaign against the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which had taken root in Lebanon after being expelled from Jordan in 1970 and had launched a deadly attack in Israel days before.

While Israeli forces remained in southern Lebanon after the initial invasion, it launched a larger invasion farther into the heart of the country in 1982, and Israel did not withdraw completely until 2000.

According to the source, Voight and Singer’s film ‘makes Israel look really bad and could be polarizing.’

In 2023, Singer was reported to have moved to Israel several years earlier.

The same year, he was reported to be pitching multiple films to be set in Israel.

The sexual assault accusations against singer go back to 1997, when a 14-year-old extra accused singer of asking him and other teenage extras to film a shower scene in the nude for his 1998 Stephen King adaptation Apt Pupil.

Singer denied the claims, and the lawsuit was ultimately settled out of court, according to the Associated Press. An investigation by the LA County District Attorney’s Office ended with no charges filed.

In 2014, a lawsuit accused singer of drugging and raping the actor Michael Egan III on a trip to Hawaii. However, Egan withdrew the lawsuit after Singer presented evidence suggesting he was not in Hawaii at the time of the alleged incident.

In the same year, an anonymous British man sued Singer and producer Gary Goddard for sexual assault, but the accuser later dropped Singer from the lawsuit.

Three years later, in December of 2017, Cesar Sanchez-Guzman alleged in a lawsuit that Singer had raped him in 2003 when he was 17.

Singer later paid a $150,000 settlement to resolve the case, but he maintained his innocence, and he has denied ever having sexual contact with underage boys.

The Usual Suspects director faced controversy the same month that the lawsuit was filed on the set of his Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.

He was fired in December from the production with only two weeks of shooting to go after he allegedly left the set to attend to health issues his mother was suffering.

He was replaced by director Dexter Fletcher to finish shooting the film and shepherd it through the post-production stage, but Singer was determined to have completed enough work on the film to retain his directing credit, while Fletcher was instead credited as an executive producer.

In 2019, following Bohemian Rhapsody’s box office and awards success, four more men accused Singer of sexually assaulting them while they were under 18 in an investigation published in The Atlantic. Singer again denied having any connection to the men.
