KENNEDY: The unforgettable moment I confronted OJ Simpson and spoke out for women everywhere

As OJ Simpson wakes up in a toasty eternal sauna, we all remember the day he got away with it.

It was also the day that wannabe killers everywhere learned that all they needed was enough dough to hire Robert Shapiro if ever caught red handed.

I was on air at MTV, a fledgling know-it-all distracted from the day job, with one eye trained on the televised double-murder trial, assuming – like everyone – that a guilty verdict was a slam-dunk sealed deal.

It’s hard to put into words how colossal of a figure OJ was. A super-star athlete, brand ambassador, actor. Like Travis Kelce, but much less hairy.

Then the verdict came down and everything flipped like Teresa Giudice’s kitchen table.

Surely, a man – even such a famous one – who beat his wife for years and then killed her and her friend, leaving a terrible treasure map of blood and DNA, goes to prison for a long, long time?

I was so shocked and upset I could hardly speak to Lili Taylor, the actress I was interviewing about her upcoming film.

I fought back tears. Lili put her hand on mine and tried to comfort me. My God her palms were calloused. I knew she was a talented actress, but was she also a pipe fitter?

OJ’s ‘Dream Team’ of lawyers had opened an unholy box, namely Pandora’s, and convinced a Los Angeles jury still hot from the city’s recent race riots (following the LAPD beating of African American Rodney King) that bigoted cops were at it again.

They’d also ushered in the era of the Televised Celebrity Trial – aka justice by public opinion. You’re welcome, Michael Jackson and Johnny Depp.

The trial also gave America the Kardashians. Another injustice I won’t soon forget.

A few years later, I came face to face with the culprit who’d upended my MTV interview.

I was shopping at a bookstore in LA International Airport, looking for a copy of Runner’s World magazine, and backed into a man still on the run in plain sight.

OJ saw me recoil in horror and gave a weird ‘Aw shucks, yeah it’s me’ look.

I was bursting with fury and ready to barf, but all I could muster was one angry barb: ‘God help you!’

Simpson cocked his head, furrowed his brow and his eyes went cold – which was my cue that this squeeze would not be worth the juice.

Suddenly, I remembered those famous Hertz commercials – OJ hurdling suitcases and dodging travelers as he dashed through a crowded airport.

As it turned out, he was on crutches with what appeared to be an injured leg and could hardly chase me. But I sped up anyway. I wasn’t taking any chances.

A few years later, I moved down the street from OJ’s Brentwood estate and the condo where his wife Nicole and Ron Goldman were brutally slain – a coincidence I only realized after the fact.

Everyone in that neighborhood knew OJ – the charmer, the coke fiend, the violent vagrant.

People whispered, but somehow OJ got a pass from all the people who shared his prosecco and a bump of disco dust in the bathroom at Mr. Chow.

When you’re famous you get everything, even acquitted. And, eventually, a visit from the Grim Reaper, too.

    No cuppa for Cam

After Britain’s Lord David Cameron shlepped to Mar-a-Lago this week, powdered wig in hand, to beg Donald Trump to grease the Congress wheels on $60 billion more aid to Ukraine, he got a rude reception.

House Speaker Mike ‘I only answer to The Lord (Donald not Jehovah)’ Johnson snubbed Cammy and refused to meet. Not even for a cuppa.

Perhaps, D-Cam was the wrong envoy having previously trashed D-Trump as ‘divisive’ and ‘stupid’?

Here’s the thing: we all want to see more Putin-punching funding passed through Capitol Hill.

But, having already poured out $75 billion to Kyiv, the world’s policeman is going over the family budget with a fine-toothed comb – and lectures from posturing foreign dignitaries are about as appealing as half-cooked haggis.

    Ricky too raucous

Ricky Martin was loving la vida loca at Madonna’s Miami show this week.

Fans were startled straight as Madge’s sassy, jockstrap-clad back-up boys grinded all up in Slick Rick’s business, leaving the Latin crooner pitching an apparent trouser tent on stage.

You have my sympathy as you re-build from your messy recent divorce, Ricky. But can’t you Express Yourself somewhere less public?

    Solar meltdown

Arkansas nepo-baby turned governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders cried wolf and declared a state of emergency ahead of Monday’s eclipse.

Yes, tourists flocked in their thousands to states in the ‘path of totality’ like hers – but what did she expect?

Most put on their dorky glasses and went ‘Huh, cool. Is it done yet?’ before going about their days.

The stupendous solar hysteria – with Niagara officials issuing their own emergency warning and New Jersey even shutting schools – made me nostalgic for Y2K.

Wake me up when the Martians get here and we’re about to be emulsified. Ack ack!

It’s over for serial gratuitous-nudist Sacha Baron Cohen and his long-suffering wife Isla Fisher. But something fishy is afoot.

Sources say sex-pest allegations made by professional headache Rebel Wilson were the nail in the marital coffin.

In her whining memoir, newly thin Rebel claimed Baron von Cohen coerced her to visit her digits to his rectory (to use an old church expression) while filming a 2016 comedy.

But then unreleased footage seemed to contradict her side of the hickory dickory, suggesting she was in fact on board with all the silly on-set scatology.

As the going got choppy, Isla sped off into the sunset – despite having secretly divorced Sacha last year, keeping up the happy families pretense for months.

She announced the uncoupling with an Insta pic of them both in matching tennis outfits. Stay weird, kids!

Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Beyonce, Cardi B, Ariana Grande, Gaga, Miley and Dua have all either dropped new music this year, or promise releases in the near future.

    Billion-dollar double heartbreak

Last year, after just 18 months of marriage, $38 billion Mackenzie Scott was dispatched like a failed science experiment by her new husband and high school chemistry teacher Dan Jewett.

Now, with divorce-paper ink still wet, the first Mrs Jeff Bezos has been humiliated once more. Jewett has found fresh chemistry with an unremarkable Mackenzie doppelganger.

Meanwhile, he-hulk Jeff is more jacked than ever, loved up with pumped-up Lauren Sanchez and due to be wed.

If I were Mackenzie I’d wash my hair of these doe-eyed duds, buy a yacht and sail away on their tears.

Jeanne completely disregards protocol and looks Louis right in the eyes as she slowly gives him a curtsy, while someone says, ‘Who does she think she is?’

One of Louis’ servants tells Jeanne that the King wants to meet her, as she enters his chambers and tells him she’s ‘honored’ to be there.

He offers her champagne before they kiss, as a title card reveals this is based on, ‘the untold true story.’

King Louis is seen walking into a regal event with Jeanne and is heard saying, ‘I want to be by her side. When the sun rises, and when it sets.’

He’s seen presenting her with a magnificent necklace, before telling her he wants her to stay with him at his palace in Versailles.

A female character says there is, ‘A vile rumor that has Versailles abuzz,’ while some of the other women conspire to get Jeanne removed from the court.

Producer of Pirates Of The Caribbean confirms upcoming film as a reboot to avoid waiting for specific actors

The ship is sailing on the new Pirates Of The Caribbean installment, which is set to be a reboot of the franchise.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first five movies in the franchise, gave an update on the long-awaited sixth installment as he recently spoke to ComicBook.com.

‘It’s hard to tell. You don’t know, you really don’t know,’ he mused. ‘You don’t know how they come together. You just don’t know.

‘Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can’t tell you,’ added Bruckheimer.

He reunited with Tom Cruise for 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick more than 35 years after making the original 1986 movie.

Bruckheimer then dropped the big news: ‘But we’re gonna reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.’

This means that Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner will not be played by Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom.

And although Margot Robbie was previously attached to a female-led reboot, she told Vanity Fair in 2022 that Disney wasn’t moving forward with the project.

‘We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,’ said Robbie.

After the sixth installment changed creative hands multiple times since 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales, writer Craig Mazin told the Los Angeles Times last August that he and co-writer Ted Elliot sold Disney their pitch for the upcoming movie.

‘We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird,’ said Mazin. ‘And they did! And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.’

A source close to Depp, 60, told People last year that the actor is considering reprising his role as Jack Sparrow for the ‘right project,’ despite apparent bad blood with the studio over his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard.

Bloom, 47, told Parade last year that he ‘wouldn’t mind’ playing Will Turner again in another installment.

This means that Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swann and Will Turner are unlikely to reunite for the new film, at least not portrayed by Johnny Depp , Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom

Johnny Depp Allegedly Verbally Abuses Co-Star Lola Glaudini on Set of “Blow” in 2001

Johnny Depp is being accused of yelling at and berating his Blow co-star Lola Glaudini on the set of the 2001 film.

Lola, 52, who had the small supporting role of Rada in the film, shared her unpleasant experience of working with the actor 20 years after shooting the movie.

The actress claimed the Donnie Brasco star, 60, called her a ‘f*****g idiot’ and told her to ‘shut the f**k up’ as she spoke about the alleged incident in a recently resurfaced clip from the Powerful Truth Angels podcast.

According to Lola the trouble started after director Ted Demme instructed her to ‘burst out laughing’ after one of Johnny’s lines, but the actor didn’t take kindly to the gesture.

However, a representative for Depp denied the claims, and told Variety the actor ‘always prioritizes good working relationships with cast and crew and this recounting differs greatly from the recollection of other members on set at the time.’

Depp’s career has been plagued by controversy in recent years, following his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, after she alleged she was a victim of domestic violence during their 15-month marriage.

Lola claimed that after she laughed, Depp went on a tirade, as he berated her while sticking ‘his finger in my face.’

‘[Depp] says his monologue. I hear the cue, and I go haha, I do a big laugh or whatever. Johnny Depp, when they say cut, walks over to me, comes up to me, sticks his finger in my face and he goes, “Who the f**k do you think you are? Who the f**k do you think you are? Shut the f**k up.”‘

‘I’m out here, and I’m trying to f*****g say my lines and you’re f*****g pulling focus. You f*****g idiot,’ she recalled him telling her.

‘Oh, now, oh now it’s not so funny? Now you can shut up? Now you can f*****g shut the f**k up? The quiet that you are right now, that’s how you f*****g stay.”‘

Lola went on to say, ‘First day, on the set, I’ve never met him. This was my first studio movie, I’ve just done indies until then.’

‘And I have the star who I have idolized, who I am so excited to work with, reamed me in my face. The only thing going through my head was, “Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t cry.”‘

Lola went on to state that Johnny later gave her a ‘non-apology apology,’ but she acted like nothing was wrong.

‘[Johnny] said, “You know, so earlier I was really in my head and staying in my character, I’m doing this Boston accent, and it’s really f*****g with me. So I’m a little tense and stuff. So I just wanted to make sure we’re cool and everything?’

She also stated that the director ‘did not come over and say anything’ when she reportedly got yelled at by Depp, and ‘when we wrapped, I was like a pariah. No one wanted to talk to me, because I am the b***h who he railed at.’

Meanwhile Depp’s representative disputed the story by pointing to Blow’s sound technician Samuel Sarkar, who also worked with the actor on films such as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Chocolat, and co-produced Depp’s film Minamata.

Sarkar told Variety in a statement: ‘As a sound person, you’re constantly listening to what is going on on set, listening for noises, listening for chatter. Depp received a favorable outcome at the trial, after his legal team successfully argued that Heard’s Washington Post op-ed, in which she accused her ex-husband of domestic abuse, was defamatory. He was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages.

Heard did not name Depp publicly in the piece but given their status and notoriety, it was evident who she was referencing in regard to her history of being allegedly abused.

Although Depp won $10 million in damages, the jury also ruled in favor of Heard for one of her three counterclaims.

Eventually, the former couple reached a settlement on the jury awards, and Heard was only forced to pay Depp $1 million in total, which he is said to be donating among five different charities.

I hear that Depp, 60, who owns an island in the Caribbean, is in the advanced stages of developing a dark rum. This is not an endorsement deal — he owns the company (which he founded with a friend of 30 years). And the brand is going to be ‘authentic and personal’ to the star in flavour, taste, and look.

The label design is still being finalised, but it’s thought it will have personal touches, including artwork based on his tattoos. Specifically, three hearts inked on his arm representing the loves of his life — former partner Vanessa Paradis and their children Jack and Lily-Rose — and a skull and cross-bones, a nod to his most famous role: Captain Jack Sparrow.

Depp told a court he’d never return to the Pirates Of The Caribbean series

The release date is yet to be announced, but a Depp rum would sell briskly to his large fan base — and a financial bonanza could be just what he needs. Depp said in court in 2020 he’d lost his $650 million fortune due to alleged financial mismanagement — and wild spending. In an interview he said he’d been insulted by claims he’d blown $30,000 a month on wine as ‘it was far more’.

More recently, he’s attracted controversy due to links with the Saudi regime, which helped to fund two of his movies.

Now he has the chance to change his fortunes. Fellow actor George Clooney paved the way with his Casamigos tequila, which became the fastest-growing super-premium tequila brand in the U.S., and was bought by Diageo for $1 billion in 2017.

Depp has largely stepped away from the big-money blockbusters, following ugly legal battles with ex-wife Amber Heard. He directs but does not act in his latest project Modi, a low-budget movie about artist Modigliani. Before that he appeared in Jeanne du Barry, a French film.

Depp told a court he’d never return to the Pirates Of The Caribbean series. A source close to the actor told me last year he’d fallen out of love with acting. ‘He says he isn’t interested in speaking someone else’s words. He is interested in authentic expression of himself, through art and music at the moment.’

Depp remains the face of Sauvage, a Dior men’s fragrance. In January last year, Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH, which owns Dior, said the star continued to be a strong driver of sales, justifying their decision to renew his contract in 2022, despite the controversies. ‘You’ve probably seen the ads. That’s working very well,’ Arnault said.

Depp was described as having addictions to drugs and alcohol by a doctor during his 2018 libel case against The Sun newspaper. He termed his use ‘self-medication’. ‘I am not some maniac who needs to be high or loaded all the time,’ he insisted.

He said: ‘The powder doesn’t have any glitter or shimmer, or anything like that, which I think is very important for male clients. You want them to look sunkissed, but you don’t want them to look like they’re wearing make-up.’

Murphy also spends ten minutes wearing an LED mask (supposed to improve the appearance of your skin) before walking the red carpet. On Wednesday it was announced he’d picked up a £2 million a year endorsement deal with Versace, with the fashion house saying he’d worn Versace ‘through the awards season’. Which may be partly true, but he was in a Celine suit on Jimmy Kimmel at the end of February, Saint Laurent a few days prior to that — and wore custom Zegna to the BAFTAs.

The nasty-neighbours-plus-kitchen-porn TV subgenre continues to boom. Line Of Duty’s Martin Compston started filming Fear, for Prime Video, this week. It’s about a couple who move to a beautiful house in Glasgow, but their neighbour makes their lives a nightmare. It will air next year.

Tempers have been fraying in a most undignified way over Emily Blunt’s greatly debated Schiaparelli ‘underpants dress’, which she wore on Oscars night.

Blunt’s veteran stylist of 18 years, Jessica Paster, appears to have become thoroughly fed up with people opining that the gown, which in addition to its controversial ‘Y fronts’ detailing also featured elevated shoulder straps, is ‘ridiculous’ or ‘ugly’.

She told one poster on Instagram disdainfully: ‘You have absolutely no sophisticated taste.’ She was blunter still with another critic, telling her: ‘This is a fashion piece, not a Walmart piece!’ To a third she said simply: ‘I think ur a cow.’ Whatever happened to rising above it?

Paster, who uses the Instagram moniker ‘high heelprncess’ was more tactful when interviewed by Vanity Fair, saying she had offered Blunt a choice of three dresses and this was the one she went for. ‘Emily knew this one would be talked about, and that’s fine with her.

‘Sometimes we don’t play it safe. At this point of years of being with Emily, we can go have fun with fashion. Did I know that people were going to talk about the shoulder? Absolutely. Do I care what anybody else has to say? Absolutely not.

‘Me? I think that people that know fashion, like fashion, like things that are interesting, were going to like it. And I know the people that like some things that are very classic were not going to like it.

‘At the end of the day, she looked absolutely beautiful. It was such a beautiful dress.’

Incidentally, the magazine —known for its cosy relationship with stars — described the sequinned VPL as ‘an eye-catching mid-section embellishment’.

Madonna doesn’t have much to say these days about her ‘British period’, when she lived in London with husband Guy Ritchie… but perhaps its influence on her tastebuds has been lasting.

At her Oscars party, held in manager Guy Oseary’s house, guests including pop star Taylor Swift and actor Cillian Murphy were offered a curry buffet. This included chicken masala, naan bread, and vegetable samosas, although, some of the guests left rather a lot on their plates.

Can Havers play his own grandfather? You be the judge

Actor Nigel Havers is playing his grandfather — the judge who sentenced Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be hanged in Britain — in the forthcoming prestige ITV drama A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story.

The network confirmed that Havers was on the cast last month, but has kept quiet about his precise role — and the family connection which will make it so fascinating.

I hear that he is going to play his grandfather Sir Cecil Havers, who was the trial judge in 1955. A jury took just 20 minutes to find Ellis guilty of murdering her lover, who she had shot five times, and he passed sentence.

Ellis was hanged in HMP Holloway on July 13, 1955. She was 28.

There were widespread protests and the novelist Raymond Chandler, who was at the time living in Britain, wrote about the ‘medieval savagery of the law’.

In an interview in 2010, Nigel Havers said that his grandfather had always regretted the outcome, feeling that it had been a crime of passion which could have resulted in a sentence for manslaughter rather than the mandatory death penalty for murder.

He added that his grandfather had written to the Home Secretary recommending a reprieve, but received a curt refusal. It was later revealed that Cecil Havers sent money to Ellis’s son every year from her death until the judge passed away in 1977.

Ellis, a nightclub hostess and sometime prostitute, killed her boyfriend, the racing driver David Blakely, in April 1955 outside the Magdala pub in Hampstead.

On trial at the Old Bailey, prosecutor Christmas Humphreys asked: ‘When you fired the revolver at close range into the body of David Blakely, what did you intend to do?’

She replied: ‘It’s obvious when I shot him I intended to kill him.’ In 2003, the verdict was referred to the Court of Appeal. Michael Mansfield QC argued that Ellis was suffering from ‘battered woman syndrome’ after being ‘disgracefully treated’ by Blakely and said that the judge and barristers had misinterpreted the law.

The Court, however, ruled that the verdict should stand.

Lucy Boynton — who played Freddie Mercury’s girlfriend Mary Austin in Bohemian Rhapsody — will play Ellis in the four-part ITV drama. It is based on the book A Fine Day For Hanging.

Barbie casts a long shadow but Noah Baumbach, the film’s co-writer and husband of its director Greta Gerwig is wasting no time in stepping out from it — and into the spotlight.

Baumbach started work on a new movie of his own this week — in London — flying out right after the Oscars. George Clooney, Emily Mortimer and Adam Sandler will star in the as-yet-untitled Netflix picture.

The streamer is also behind his wife’s next project: a two-film Narnia epic. She’s still working on the script.

    Curtains for Cowell’s Vegas show

Is the end of the talent show nigh? It can be revealed that Simon Cowell’s Las Vegas variety show — America’s Got Talent Presents… Superstars Live — is to close just three months after it was renewed for another year.

The stage show, which is based at the MGM Luxor Resort in Vegas, will conclude in May. It has enjoyed a run of more than two years — and one of the prizes on America’s Got Talent was the chance to perform on the show.

Luxor’s owners MGM said in a statement: ‘It has been an honour to collaborate with the AGT team to bring the talent from one of television’s most exciting competition shows to the Las Vegas Strip and we hope to work together again in the future.

‘We have loved being home to these world-class entertainers, and wish all of these incredible performers the best of luck as they continue their careers. We’ll be proudly cheering them on.’ Major stars from America’s Got Talent appeared as headliners on the show, including autistic pianist-singer Kodi Lee, dance troupe Light Balance and magician Dustin Tavella.

One Vegas entertainer revealed some of those involved were ‘stunned’ by the news and had no inkling that the show was ending. The insider said: ‘People had planned out their lives, and year, to remain in Vegas and work on the show. On the face of it things were going well. Sure, weekends were the busiest nights, but the footfall over the week shows was not bad.’ But they added: ‘Since January there has been a noticeable dip overall, aside from Superbowl week.’

Cowell described landing the show in 2021 as one of the highlights of his career. He was even awarded the key to the city, for his contributions to the industry in Vegas. Sources say the live experience is being ‘supersized and reimagined’ for other cities in the U.S. and around the world.

Timothee Chalamet took home a whopping $8million for Wonka, sources tell Variety, and his growing star power has led to a recent ‘salary bump.’

Chalamet played the world-famous chocolatier Willy Wonka in the prequel film that premiered in December 2023 and raked in $625.9million at the worldwide box office.

He beat out the likes of Tom Holland, Donald Glover, Ezra Miller and Ryan Gosling for the role that was previously played by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp.

The actor, 28, earned critical acclaim for his ‘amazing’ portrayal as well as his singing and dancing abilities.

It earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Actor in a Musical or Comedy Film — though he lost out to The Holdovers’ Paul Giamatti.

Less than three months after Wonka’s release, Dune 2 — which also sees Chalamet in a lead role — hit theaters and it is currently ranked #1 at the worldwide box office with over $374,000,000 earned.

The former indie darling is shaping up to be the next Hollywood leading man in the vein of Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp.

But Chalamet, according to Wonka producer David Heyman, has a broad appeal that is ‘cool, but not in a threatening way.’

His recent box office success will see him earning ‘paydays in the double digits for leading roles in studio films.’

‘We can count on one or two hands, in any age range, the people who are legitimate movie stars. Timothée is absolutely that,’ said Dune producer Mary Parent.

Although Dune 2 and Wonka are projects that come with built-in fanbases, Hollywood believes that it’s Chalamet’s star power and not brand recognition that’s responsible for the films’ successes.

Warner Bros. bigwig Josh Goldstine told Variety: ‘I can’t imagine any other actor on the planet who could have played Willy Wonka and have the success that Wonka had.

Along with his onscreen allure, Heyman says that Chalamet is ‘savvy about marketing’ and ‘very engaged’ in what it takes to sell a film to audiences.

As the New York native’s professional career soars, it’s been rumored that Chalamet and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner have split.

Makeup mogul Jenner has been dating Chalamet since last spring, but the couple have not been seen together for two months, leading anxious fans to speculate that the pair have broken up.

She recently deflected a question about her boyfriend during an interview with the New York Times.

During the chat, Jenner spoke about how her dress sense changed about a year ago, once she had gotten her ‘body back’ after her pregnancy with her son Aire.

She was then asked about the social media rumors that her style transformation was actually due to her romance with Chalamet.

‘I don’t know how I feel about that,’ she replied, swatting the subject away by saying: ‘I just don’t want to talk about personal things.’

Johnny Depp Removes Edited Photo with Robert Downey Jr. after Oscars Backlash: Fans Compare his Photoshop Skills to Kate Middleton’s

Johnny Depp swiftly celebrated Robert Downey Jr.’s Oscars win on social media but had to retract an image that was later revealed to be photoshopped.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star, 60, took to his Instagram Stories on Sunday to extend congratulations to his longtime friend, celebrating his victory as Best Supporting Actor for his remarkable performance in Oppenheimer.

However, the initial post featured a digitally altered image of the two stars, prompting fans to label it as a Photoshop fail, reminiscent of Kate Middleton’s recent Mother’s Day photo mishap.

The snap used by Depp turned out to be a manipulated version of a 1988 picture featuring Downey with his then-girlfriend, Sarah Jessica Parker, with Depp absent altogether from the original photo.

Depp promptly substituted the image with an authentic photograph of him and Downey engaged in deep conversation at the Golden Globes in 2011, adding the caption: ‘Let’s try this again…congrats to my dear friend.’

‘Is that an acceptance speech in your pocket or do you just have a very rectangular penis?’

The joke fell flat as RDJ looked somber while staring at the camera while fans slammed Kimmel for his ‘bottom of the barrel’ jokes about substance abuse.

Pirates Of The Caribbean Fans Vow to Boycott Pirates 6 If Johnny Depp is Replaced: ‘No Depp, No Watch’

Pirates Of The Caribbean fans have threatened to boycott the next installment of the series after being spooked by the rumoured replacement for Johnny Depp as lead.

It was suggested that The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri was being considered by Disney to front the sixth film in the series, although others have rejected this claim.

Seven years have passed since Pirates Of The Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge came out as the fifth Pirates movie and there have been continuing suggestions since that a sixth is going to happen.

Faced with the prospect of a Depp-less edition, one fan wrote on X: ‘If it ain’t Depp I ain’t watching.’

They were responding to a post by an account called ‘Unlimited L’s’ which also suggested that Edebiri’s character could be based on the 18th century pirate Anne Bonny – one of the most famous female pirates ever.

Other Pirates Of The Caribbean fans reacted similarly negatively.

They commented: ‘Nobody will watch this Without Depp. When are they going to learn…

‘Honestly I don’t want any of these, I don’t care about pirates any more if there’s no Depp…

    ‘Another flop, I’m sure…

    ‘Disney will never learn…

‘Disney cannot replace Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.. Depp created the roll!’

However, it would appear that many were misunderstanding initial reports.

Claiming to be the original source of the rumour, Daniel Richtman of RPK News, said that there was to be no ‘replacing Depp’, and that Edebiri was rather being considered for a spin-off.

Any prospect of a new Pirates movie involving Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow seems bleak anyway, after the fallout from his court battle with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Disney axed their star man in 2018 shortly before Heard wrote an op-ed implying that her ex was an abuser.

In court in 2022 – giving evidence in his trial when he sued Heard for defamation – Depp said he would never work for Disney again, even if they offered him $300 million.

One proposed spin-off has revolved around the idea of Margot Robbie as the lead, but there were conflicting comments from the actress herself and producer Jerry Bruckheimer with the latter insisting the idea was still ‘alive’ after the Barbie star said it was ‘dead’.

Richtman added that anything involving The Bear’s Irish actress as Anne Bonny is not incompatible with a different spin-off with Robbie coming out at some point.

Bonny formed a dynamic duo with fellow female pirate Mary Read in the early 1700s.

Their capture in 1720 caused a huge stir back in Britain as it was presumed women could not be involved in such a violent, illegal practise.

The pair dressed as men and ‘fought like warriors’ and were part of notorious pirateer Calico Jack Rackam’s crew, which terrorised the seas.

Bonny and Read were referenced in the 1724 book, A General History of the Pyrates, by Charles Johnson – adding to their legend.

As their vanquished opponents lay dying, they would apparently expose their breasts to show that they had been killed by a woman.

Bonny is believed to have been the Irish illegitimate daughter of a lawyer and a maid. She is thought to have been born in Old Head of Kinsale, in County Cork the turn of the 18th century, before moving to the US with her father who would dress her as a boy and call her ‘Andy’.

Some time between 1714 and 1718, Bonny ran off with a sailor to New Providence in the Bahamas where she met Rackam, falling in love with him and having a child with him – which they left with friends in Cuba.

She left her sailor husband to become a pirate, with it said that ‘no one fought more courageously at Rackam’s side’.

Bonny disguised herself as a man on Rackham’s sloop, and only he and eventually Mary Read were privy to her real sex.

Claiming to be the original source of the rumour,  Daniel Richtman of RPK News suggested that he had been misrepresented, and that Edebiri was being touted for a spin-off

In October 1720, Rackam and his crew were attacked by a sailors captained by Jonathan Barnet under a commission from Nicholas Lawes, Governor of Jamaica.

Most of Rackam’s pirates put up little resistance as they were too drunk to fight, but Read and Bonny fought fiercely and managed to hold off Barnet’s troops for a short time.

Bonny was saved from the death penalty as she was pregnant, she was said to have ‘pleaded her belly,’ a rule in English common law that allowed women to be delayed their execution until they gave birth.

Her exact end is unknown, with no record of her death or imprisonment. Historians propose she may have returned to live with her father in the US.

Hammond started the charity in 1986, to provide care and refuge for cats and kittens and humanely reduce the population of dogs and cats by neutering.

‘Celia’s devotion and commitment to protecting vulnerable and neglected animals is beyond admirable,’ Depp told DailyMail.com.

‘I’m so glad to be part of the evening’s success, and with the added bonus of playing alongside my friend, Sir Rod Stewart.’

As for Sir Rod, he ‘couldn’t be happier to help raise awareness and funds for the vital work that the Celia Hammond Animal Trust charity does for vulnerable and unwanted animals.

She once told DailyMail.com of a vacation to Hollywood with Beck where she found a couple of wild cats in the hotel garden and spent the whole stay scouring LA for a cat trap.

Hammond appeared on the record sleeve of Jeff Beck’s solo album Truth, an album that included contributions from Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood and John Paul Jones.

The A-Lister played Elvis Presley’s original Red Hagstrom Viking II guitar to accompany Stewart during the impromptu concert.

The money will be used to help sick or injured animals whose owners can’t afford to treat them, or do not qualify for help from major charities.

Hammond founded the trust, which initially opened two low-cost veterinary clinics in London before widening their area to Sussex and Kent.

The former supermodel, who was snapped for Queen magazine, said: ‘I cannot thank Sir Rod Stewart and Johnny Depp enough and of course, Mark Aldridge for creating such a magical experience for us.

‘We are blown away by the support we have received which was desperately needed for us to continue our important animal rescue work.’

Hammond has dedicated the last four decades to raising money and caring for unwanted, abandoned, stray and feral cats.

It’s light years from her modelling days, when she travelled the world with fellow beauties Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy.

But she told the Daily Mail in 2008, ‘I’m doing what I have to do. It’s a mission; a calling.’
