Taylor Swift and Johnny Depp both have royal connections, according to genealogy platform

Taylor Swift reportedly has royal blood running in her veins.

The singer-songwriter, 34, is distantly related to a French king as well as movie icon Johnny Depp, according to a genealogist’s report.

Going back through her bloodline, one of her ancestors was King Louis XIV, the French monarch who built the Palace of Versailles, Roi Mandel, the director of research at MyHeritage, told TODAY.com on Friday.

According to Mandel, the superstar is an eighth cousin 11 times removed of King Louis XIV — the French monarch who built the Palace of Versailles and reigned from 1643 to 1715.

The Fortnight hitmaker — who said her Paris show was ‘female rage: the musical’ — is also related to actor Depp.

Taylor Swift is distantly related to a French king and Johnny Depp, according to a genealogist’s report

The genealogy expert told the outlet that although Swift’s tie to royalty is not surprising and ‘not rare,’ he called it an ‘amazing’ discovery.

‘It’s not rare because when you look Europe … we saw how all the houses of royals in Europe are connected to each other,’ he explained.

‘They’re all cousins and they are the founding fathers, as they say,’ Mandel added. ‘Their descendants eventually, many generations later, emigrated to the U.S.’

The genealogist added that the connection is ‘interesting’ because the monarch also had love for the music and the arts.

The connection to Louis XIV is interesting because XIV is the king that built the magnificent Palace of Versailles, where all the parties were spectacular,’ Mandel said. ‘He used to play a lot of music there. He used to play the guitar. He was passionate about cultural music.’

The genealogist explained that he and his team made the discovery when they started exploring Swift’s familial ties to Europe.

Also on her paternal line of her family tree, the singer was then discovered to have ancestors who were among the first settlers to voyage from England to Massachusetts.

This comes as Swift kicked off the European leg of her Eras Tour — which her NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce helped her celebrate by splurging over $17K on Paris-themed gifts.

Insiders confirm Johnny Depp’s recent film Jeanne du Barry’s did not get pulled from theaters during its domestic release, despite online backlash surrounding the independent French language movie.

The latest Johnny Depp film released, a French-language independent film titled Jeanne du Barry, has been at the center of an online controversy over its ability to draw moviegoers into theaters.

Jeanne du Barry stars Depp, 60, as Louis XV opposite Maïwenn, 48, who co-wrote, directed and plays the titular role in the French language independent film, which debuted at last year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The romantic drama chronicles ‘the life of Jeanne Bécu, who was born as the illegitimate daughter of an impoverished seamstress in 1743 and went on to rise through the Court of Louis XV to become his last official mistress,’ according to a logline from producers.

Controversy arose when a number of social media posts surfaced in recent days saying that the movie – Depp’s first release in the wake of his yearslong litigation with ex-wife Amber Heard – was pulled from U.S. theaters amid paltry box office returns.

Some social media users posted ‘purported screenshots of empty theaters … with only a seat or two filled for one-off showings last week’ of the latest release from Depp, TMZ reported on Tuesday.

Insiders ‘with direct knowledge’ of the situation told TMZ that the depiction of the film being pulled out of theaters due to poor sales was not accurate, as plans in the first place called for a limited theatrical run.

Jeanne du Barry’s limited run was the result of a collaboration between U.S. film distributors and the company Fathom Events, who said in March that they had planned a small group of screenings between May 2-May 6, sources told the outlet.

It was not immediately clear how the limited screening drew in box office revenues; the website Box Office Mojo did not nave domestic returns listed as of Tuesday, but indicated the motion picture has earned $13,830,331 since its May 2023 release.

Social media feedback was varied as to how packed theaters were for the comeback project, though some users did pledge their support for the embattled actor with posts taken inside the screenings.

‘Finally got to see Jeanne Du Barry on its last night in US theaters, and I’m glad I did,’ one user wrote. ‘Seeing it on the big screen was well worth the wait! The costumes, the scenery, the actors, were all mesmerizing.’

Another trio of fans posed in a shot from the theater with the caption: ‘Out here supporting Johnny … So proud!!!!’

One account painted a bleak picture of the movie’s performance in its domestic release.

‘Unfortunately due to low ticket sales, “Jeanne du Barry” has already been PULLED from most theaters in Los Angeles,’ a tweet from the account read. ‘The film only sold 2 tickets at last nights premiere in Hollywood. The only remaining theater still showing “Jeanne du Barry” is Sherman Oaks — where it sold 7 tickets. It will no longer be playing anywhere in Los Angeles after tonight.’

Another user pushed back on claims the movie had been pulled, saying that it had been a narrative spread by supporters of Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard

The account added, ‘Unfortunately, Jeanne du Barry did not make the box office weekend chart after its “limited run” in the US over the weekend (May 3rd-5th). The film grossed less than $500 and was nowhere to be found in the top 50.’

Another user pushed back on claims the movie had been pulled, saying that it had been a narrative spread by supporters of Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard.

‘They ACTUALLY think we’re stupid, don’t they?’ the user said, pointing out what they perceived to be inconsistencies in the information detailing the movie’s lackluster performance.

The user said that ‘you can literally look it up for yourself, Jeanne Du Barry is indeed still playing throughout plenty of theatres in LA and it’s still at the exact same time as it was today,’ adding that ‘Amber Heard’s supporters only use this platform to gaslight.’

Amid the clashing feedback, Depp has been focused on ‘his health and wellbeing much more these days,’ a source told People May 3, and remains ‘very excited’ for his fans to enjoy his latest release.

The source told the outlet Jeanne du Barry ‘was a good challenge’ for the actor, who ‘did the entire film in French.’

The source noted that ‘people were loving his look for the Jeanne du Barry U.K. premiere’ last month, as Depp showed up ‘feeling and looking healthier.

‘He’s taking advantage of being in this better headspace,’ the source said. ‘There’s a lot of good energy, and he surrounds himself with a good group of people.’

The two-part documentary will delve deep into their fallout after the music mogul purchased the rights to Taylor’s first six albums in 2019, in a whopping $300million deal

In 2022, the music manager appeared on the NPR podcast, The Limits with Jay Williams, and spoke about the deal which granted him the rights to music from multiple artists including Taylor’s first six albums.

The entertainment executive responded to the controversy, telling Jay, ‘I learned an important lesson’ from the purchase.

He appeared to be referring to Big Machine owner Scott Borchetta when he claimed, ‘When I did that deal, I was under a very strict NDA with the gentleman who owned it, and I couldn’t tell any artist.’

Scooter also indicated in the interview he wasn’t as realistic as he should have been when signing on the dotted line.

‘I was excited to work with every artist on the label. So when we finalized the deal, I started making phone calls to say, hey, I’m a part of this. And before I could even do that – I made four phone calls; I started to do those phone calls – all hell broke loose.’

‘So the regret I have there,’ he continued, ‘is that I made the assumption that everyone, once the deal was done, was going to have a conversation with me, see my intent, see my character and say, great, let’s be in business together.

‘And I made that assumption with people that I didn’t know.’

The New York native claimed he learned an important lesson from the controversy. ‘I can never make that assumption again. I can’t put myself in a place of, you know, arrogance to think that someone would just be willing to have a conversation and be excited to work with me.’

In a lengthy Tumblr post, the Grammy winner accused Scooter of ‘incessant, manipulative bullying’ and claiming that he and Scott both knew what they were doing with the deal.

She said: ‘Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.’

To date, Taylor has finished re-recording four of the six albums, which have included expanded deluxe edition tracks, unreleased From the Vault tracks and rarities.

Taylor marked four out of four rereleases to date topping the Billboard 200 albums chart with the October 2023 release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

Dubbed Taylor’s Version, the project kicked off with the rerelease of Taylor’s second album, Fearless, in April 2021, that was followed up by a new version of her mega-selling Red in November of that year.

Two years later, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) dropped in July 2023, followed by 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in October 2023.

The run of re-releases was particularly impressive, as Swift also released four new studio albums during that time period: Lover (2019), Folklore (2020), Evermore (2020) and Midnights (2022), with a fifth, The Tortured Poets Department, which released in April.

Now that four re-recordings are in the can, Taylor only has her debut and Reputation left to complete her promise to do her first six albums.

By re-recording, Taylor is technically covering her own songs as new recordings, resulting in new masters she now fully owns, giving her licensing control.

Johnny Depp harbors no ill will towards anyone following Amber Heard controversy as he promotes comeback film Jeanne du Barry: ‘He is concentrated on looking ahead’

Johnny Depp is ‘in really good spirits’ and bears ‘no animosity toward anybody’ as he continues his comeback, it is claimed.

Depp, 60, spent years as a pariah in Hollywood amid his highly publicized legal battles with his ex-wife Amber Heard, 38.

They waged a blistering war of lawsuits against one another, accusing each other of abuse after their 15-month marriage disintegrated in 2016.

After his victory in a defamation case against Heard in 2022, Depp received a rapturous reception at last year’s Cannes Film Festival, where he premiered his French romantic drama Jeanne du Barry.

Now, with Jeanne du Barry out in theaters in the US, an insider has told People that Depp is ‘focused on moving forward. He’s keeping busy. There’s a lot of good distractions, so there’s not that much time to be reminiscing on that darker period.’

Their lurid 2022 trial unfolded in the headlines, with Depp accusing Heard of having left feces in his bed as a bizarre prank on her 30th birthday.

After the trial ended, Heard sold her home in Yucca Valley, California for a reported $1.1 million and moved to Madrid with her daughter Oonah, three.

When he feels the moment is opportune, he is said to be open to the prospect of starring in a Hollywood movie again.

Critics slam Ryan Gosling’s new film The Fall Guy for insensitive joke about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard: ‘Abuse should never be used as a joke’

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s new film, The Fall Guy, is receiving backlash for featuring a joke alluding to Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard’s volatile relationship.

While the highly-anticipated action comedy doesn’t even hit theaters until Friday,  early viewers have already condemned one line of dialogue for making light of  domestic violence.

The controversial quip is said by Hannah Waddingham’s character, Gail Meyer, who remarks ‘it’s like Amber and Johnny were just in here’ while referencing a trailer in a state of disarray, after a fight had taken place, on a movie set.

The joke was a clear reference to the Golden Globe winner, 60, and 38-year-old Aquaman actress’ short-lived marriage, in which both stars have repeatedly accused each other of domestic violence and abuse since their split in 2016.

‘This is so disappointing,’ one X user wrote in response to the line.

Another wrote: ‘It’s 2024, why are we writing these kinds of lines into movies? Nasty work.’

‘Abuse is not a punchline, Amber can’t catch a damn break,’ a third wrote.

Others found it ‘super disappointing’ that Waddingham would agree to say that line, despite being a ‘vocal feminist.’

‘This is Hannah we are talking about – she’s known for calling out bulls**t. She follows Johnny Depp so I think she’s ok with this all,’ a Reddit user wrote, noting that the Ted Lasso star, 49, follows Depp on Instagram.

According to a synopsis on IMBD, the film is about a down-and-out stuntman (Gosling) on a mission to ‘find the missing star of his ex-girlfriend (Blunt)’s blockbuster film.’

The Fall Guy, starring Gosling, Blunt and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has been projected to debut between $20 million and $40 million, though some have put it as high as $65 million to kick off the summer movie season.

In December 2022, Depp and Heard finally settled their defamation claims against each other following a bitter legal battle that lasted over six years.

The joke was a clear reference to the Golden Globe winner, 60, and 38-year-old Aquaman actress' short-lived marriage, in which both stars have repeatedly accused each other of domestic violence and abuse since their split in 2016.

A courtroom in London found in her favor, but a second case in Fairfax, Virginia, in 2022 came out on Depp’s side.

Not long after the last defamation trail with her ex-husband Johnny Depp came to an end, Heard relocated both herself and her child to Madrid, Spain.

Last year in July, a source told Entertainment Tonight that the actress is ‘doing much better and feeling at peace’ following the big move.

‘She is focused on motherhood and her daughter. She is happy and feels comfortable in Spain.’

‘She is glad to be settled and is moving forward with her life. She doesn’t want to deal with any drama surrounding Johnny or the trial anymore,’ the insider continued to the outlet.

Following a publicized trial back in 2022, a jury sided with Depp and found Amber had defamed the actor.

He was awarded $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages – which went down to $350K due to the limit in the state of Virginia. Heard was also awarded $2 million in compensatory damages.

She eventually paid her ex-husband $1 million in damages following a negotiation – with Johnny giving the money to five charities, per People.

‘After a great deal of deliberation I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case brought against me by my ex-husband in Virginia,’ she wrote.

‘It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed. The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimized when they come forward.’

‘Now I finally have an opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago and on terms I can agree to,’ Heard continued.

‘I have made no admission. This is not an act of concession. There are no restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward.’

Heard most recently starred in Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom – which was released late last year in December.

She reprised her role of Mera in the sequel – after claims that her role was reduced in the movie following the trial and had a total of 11 lines throughout the entirety of the project.

Johnny Depp’s Comeback Unveiled: The Real Story Behind His Return as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates Of The Caribbean Remake, Updates on Relationship with Amber Heard’s Lawyer Joelle Rich, and Details of Actor’s Rum Brand Launch

The cheekbones are back. As is a languidly stylish and much shorter haircut.

And while Johnny Depp retains that trademark rough-cut and tattooed charm, the excessively scruffy – perhaps even grubby – look of recent months seems to be well past.

Friends explain that Depp had a sort of ‘gap year’ – actually more like two years – following his bruising 2022 court case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The Virigina court found in Depp’s favor that Heard had defamed him on three counts with allegations of domestic abuse.

Though Heard won only one of her counter claims and sources say Depp felt euphoric at the verdict, the protracted trial clearly took its toll.

Depp largely disappeared from the limelight, grew his hair long and gained weight, while privately playing a lot of music (he is an accomplished guitarist) and dabbling in painting.

He travelled widely, including to Saudi Arabia, where he has stuck up surprising – if not controversial – friendships with the kingdom’s royal family, who have since financially backing some of his film projects.

He has also spent months at a time on his $5 million private Caribbean island, Little Parrot Cay, holed up with select pals.

Double tragedy then came with the unexpected sudden death of two close friends.

He was at rock legend Jeff Beck’s bedside when he passed away aged 78 in January last year. Sources described the pair as ‘extremely close’ and said that Depp had been left ‘devastated’ by Beck’s death.

But there was little time for mourning as, just ten months later, The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan died after a long period of sickness. Depp – who has spoken warmly of his ‘love’ for MacGowan – helped carry the singer’s casket at his funeral.

That both Beck and MacGowan had suffered very public battles with substance abuse was not lost on Depp, who – friends say – subsequently reassessed his own life.

Certainly, Depp’s two-year marriage to Heard had been incredibly self-destructive, featuring heavy drinking and ‘powders’.

Clearly, one friend says, it was time ‘time for a change’.

Hence last week’s ‘new look’, stepping out at the small London premier for his new French film, ‘Jeanne Du Barry’, showcasing his fitter and more clean-cut look.

I’m told he turned to Odile Gilbert – one of Paris’s most famous hairdressers – to transform his wild tresses.

He has also lost a considerable amount of weight through a slow process of ‘being more mindful, eating well and prioritizing his wellbeing,’ sources say.

The timing of this makeover is no accident. Depp is due to appear in an upcoming Dior campaign, reprising his role as their top celebrity spokesman and face of their best-selling scent, Sauvage.

Depp hopes that his transformation will be fully ‘complete’ come the fall, with plans for big new commercial and film ventures.

Indeed, friends tease that fans might soon be able to get their hands on some Depp own-brand rum.

A liquor line would certainly play to the popularity of his best-known screen character, Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

It could also be highly lucrative – something Depp will no doubt have learned following the success of other celebrity alcohol brands.

As for Captain Jack Sparrow, the question on everyone’s lips is whether Depp will reprise the fan-favorite role.

Until recently, Depp had all but sworn off acting, committing instead to behind-camera roles – as with the upcoming ‘Modi’ movie (a biopic about Modigliani, directed by Depp and starring Al Pacino).

However, insiders now say that what was formerly a ‘probably not’ has turned into a ‘yes’ – Depp will be returning to our screens.

As for reprising Jack Sparrow? It’s a firm maybe.

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer – who is working with Disney on much-touted plans for a reboot of the franchise – has said that he would love to have Depp back, even in a cameo role. But would Depp himself agree?

There was a point when this was a flat ‘no’ – indeed he said in court that he wouldn’t take up the role again, even for $300 million.

Depp felt terribly wounded after production abruptly dropped him and severed all ties during his messy court battles with Heard.

But time is a healer, and Depp now feels grateful to the fans who have stuck by him. He certainly wouldn’t want to disrespect them by ruling out a return entirely.

A pal says: ‘Johnny has always been so touched by how many people love and resonate with the character, so anything is possible.’ All of which sounds much more like a yes than a no.

There's no question of a rekindling of his romance with glamorous lawyer Joelle Rich, who represented Depp during his 2020 London trial and is also based in North London.

In the meantime, Depp is now based mostly in London, with time also spent in the south of France, where he owns a sprawling 37-acre estate.

In March last year he dropped into an antiques shop in Lincolnshire (in the UK) – arriving by helicopter – and bought desks, guitars and other items to furnish a ‘new house in London’.

One LA-based friend tells me that this new home was bought secretly from another high-profile celebrity some time ago.

A value is unknown but I hear the property is in Hampstead – a very desirable area in the north of the city, particularly popular with celebrities. Depp’s neighbors include director Tim Burton, a long-time close pal.

There’s no question of a rekindling of his romance with glamorous lawyer Joelle Rich – who represented Depp during his 2020 London trial and is also based in North London.

The pair enjoyed a fleeting ‘entanglement’ during the Virginia trial (in which Rich had no legal role). But friends now say Depp is ‘too busy’ to consider any serious romantic relationships, and that the liaison with Rich simply petered out within a few weeks of the trial.

It seems he was happy to move on. And as he focuses efforts on his triumphant return to the film industry, the upcoming autumn Dior campaign and perhaps even plans for an own-brand liquor, fans can rest assured that there is much more of Depp to come.

Amber Heard Rings in 38th Birthday with Champagne, Reflecting on Eight-Year Anniversary of Controversial Incident with Johnny Depp

Amber Heard said she was having a ‘Champagne kind of birthday’ as she celebrated turning 38 on Monday.

The Aquaman actress was pictured in a post on her Instagram page Tuesday as she relaxed in a wine cellar while tipping back a glass of Champagne on the special occasion.

The Austin, Texas-born actress donned a golden turtleneck sweater with her blonde locks down, accessorizing with earrings, rings and a watch.

Tuesday’s special occasion marked a dubious anniversary involving Heard, as she was accused by ex-husband Johnny Depp, 60, of engineering a disgusting prank against him exactly eight years ago Monday, in of April 2016.

Depp, amid the former couple’s legal battles years back, testified in 2022 that his maid had contacted him and informed him that a piece of feces had been left in his bed at his apartment in downtown Los Angeles. Heard repeatedly has denied the claims.

Depp said he thought that Heard was behind the unseemly prank as she was upset with him leaving her birthday party early.

Depp told the court he felt Heard intended to get back at him with the prank after she departed to attend the Coachella Music Festival.

Heard denied leaving the waste in Depp’s bed in court testimony, and said she believed one of their pet dogs were responsible for the droppings.

Depp said that while Heard ‘tried to blame it on the dogs,’ he didn’t think the canines were large enough to produce a ‘fecal delivery’ like the one that was seen in his bed in images submit to the court as evidence.

‘I lived with those dogs for many years,’ Depp told the court in May of 2022, according to People. ‘That did not come from a dog. It just didn’t.’

Depp told the court during the trial that he initially found humor upon hearing about what had happened.

‘I mean … I laughed,’ Depp told the court. ‘It was so outside. It was so bizarre and so grotesque that I could only laugh. So I did not go down there that day.’

Depp’s longtime chauffeur and security staffer Starling Jenkins III said under oath in the trial that Heard described the incident to him as ‘a horrible practical joke gone wrong.’

Heard, in her testimony, said that she never spoke with Jenkins about what had happened. She told the court that one of their canines dealt with ‘bowel control issues’ and had a habit of jumping into the main bed.

Heard told the court she had been packing for the festival and that one of the dogs was perched on the bed at the time.

Heard was asked by her attorney Elaine Bredehoft if the incident was the result of an attempt to play a practical joke on Depp, to which she said, ‘Absolutely not,’ finding it void of any humor.

‘First of all, I don’t think that’s funny – I don’t know what grown woman does,’ Heard told the court. ‘I was not also in a pranking mood; my life was falling apart.

‘I was at a crossroads in my life. I was really serious. And I had just been attacked on my 30th birthday by my violent husband with whom I was desperately in love and knew I needed to leave. It was not really a jovial time, and I don’t think that’s funny. Period. That’s disgusting.’

Heard said that Depp dwelled about the incident and went ‘on and on’ about it.

‘Our marriage was over and falling apart in front of our eyes, we hadn’t seen each other in over a month and his mom had just passed,’ she said. ‘I couldn’t believe he wanted to talk about feces.’

Johnny Depp will return to acting one day as he focuses on directing.

The 60-year-old actor – who DailyMail.com revealed has undergone a radical transformation including weight loss, haircut, and embracing ‘clean living’ – has not retired from his career as a thespian according to TMZ on Wednesday.

Insiders for the publication claim that he is not done acting but his current passion is directing and he is happy doing that as he is currently at the helm of biopic Modi.

He is said to be in the thick of editing and finalizing the film but his next move is completely up in the air and he has plans to return to acting in American films ‘when the time is right’ in the future.

According to IMDB the synopsis of Modi is: ‘A 72 hour whirlwind through the streets of WWI Paris, Italian bohemian artist Modigliani attempts to out maneuver bombs, policemen, girlfriends and critics in a increasingly desperate search of a home for his art.’

The film has star power including Al Pacino, Riccardo Scamarcio, and Sally Phillips.

Modi is his first venture into directing in nearly 30 years as he last was at the helm for 1997 flick The Brave in which he co-starred with legendary actor Marlon Brando.

It was recently revealed by DailyMail.com that Depp has undergone a radical mid-life transformation – totally making himself over as he approaches his 61st birthday.

Earlier this year, the actor cut a distinctly bohemian figure.

In February, in Turin, Italy – where he is directing his new film Modi, about the artist Modigliani – he was pictured wearing a rasta beanie, a camo jacket complete with a Che Guevara patch, and hair so long that it spilled below shoulder length.

He has since had a very respectable make-over. Exclusive pictures show him arriving on Monday night at the small UK movie premiere of ‘Jeanne Du Barry’.

Depp – who has clearly lost a considerable amount of weight – wore a slim-fitting Dior suit and had his hair trimmed short.

Friends of the Hollywood star, who turns 61 in June, confide that he has been living in London for a period and that the city is suiting him.

One says: ‘He’s been living in the UK while editing Modi, and has been living a cleaner lifestyle than at times in the past.’

I’m told that the long hair came off around a fortnight ago – in advance of Depp filming another advertising campaign for Dior. (He is the face of their best-selling fragrance, Sauvage.)

Depp plays Louis XV in ‘Jeanne Du Barry’, and speaks in French in the picture. The film is out in the UK on Friday and released in America next month. It was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last May.

Back then, Depp decried talk of his ‘comeback’.

Asked whether he felt ‘boycotted by Hollywood’ following  domestic abuse allegations made against him by his ex-wife Amber Heard, he said her claims were ‘just vowels and consonants floating in the air.’

‘It’s almost like I need to comeback and do a tap dance and dance my best for you guys, and hope you approve,’ he said.

‘I didn’t come back from anywhere,’ he added. ‘I didn’t go anywhere.’

In 2022, Depp won a blockbuster US trial against Heard, with the court finding that she had defamed him when she alleged domestic abuse.

A previous libel trial, against The Sun newspaper which had called him a ‘wife beater’, ended in defeat for Depp in 2020.

Actor Jude, 21, son of Mackenzie Crook, quietly steps into the spotlight by pursuing an acting career, inspired by his upbringing surrounded by stars like Johnny Depp.

The nepo baby discourse has reached fever point in recent years, with many turning on stars who have used their parent’s name to get ahead in their own careers.

So it’s somewhat refreshing to see this isn’t the case for Jude Crook – the 21-year-old son of BAFTA-winning The Office and Pirates Of The Caribbean star Mackenzie Crook.

Many were shocked this week when Jude – named after the Thomas Hardy novel – made his red carpet debut at the UK premiere of Johnny Depp’s Jeanne Du Barry, towering over his 5ft 9inch father.

Like his dad, Jude doesn’t court the limelight, yet has been quietly working away behind the scenes on a career in the movie industry.

So dedicated is he to the cause that he – along with three friends and fellow London Film Academy graduates – launched production company Jacco Macacco Films in 2022 and has been creating and starring in small indie projects.

Like his dad, Jude doesn’t court the limelight, yet has been quietly working away behind the scenes (pictured with sister Scout and mum Lindsay in 2005)

More impressing, is that all this has been done away from the spotlight.

Jude’s Instagram is private and has just 163 followers, while he has given no interviews mentioning his famous name.

While he’s determined not to get ahead by hanging on his father’s coattails, it’s hardly surprising that Jude has pursued a career in acting, given his upbringing.

At just three weeks old he was flown out to St Vincent, where his father was filming Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl alongside the likes of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

His childhood was spent toddling around movie sets as he and mother Lindsay Cook – Mackenzie’s wife since 2001 – jetted to the Caribbean while the franchise was filming.

He learnt about the movie magic of prosthetics and special effects from a young age, with Mackenzie noting at the time: ‘He knows everyone and he understands exactly what we are doing.

‘He’s watched the movies – he’s only four, but he doesn’t get freaked out by it at all because he’s had lunch with all the pirates and the cannibals.’

Jude also quickly formed a bond with the film’s lead Johnny Depp, with Mackenzie recalling: ‘Jude was a toddler and he was on set with me. Then he just wanders off and knocks on Johnny Depp’s trailer door.

‘After 15 minutes I go off to find him and there he is sitting with Johnny watching TV. It was a lovely moment, but not surprising at all. Johnny is a really cool, relaxed sort of guy.

‘What was funny was that Jude wasn’t starstruck at all because for him he was off to see Captain Jack Sparrow not Johnny Depp.

‘He had a stunt double who looked just like him and my son was just as happy being with either.’

At just three weeks old Jude was flown out to St Vincent, where his father was filming Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl alongside the likes of Johnny Depp

Jude’s childhood was spent toddling around movie sets and meeting A-Listers (Mackenzie pictured with Johnny, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom)

Despite growing up around Hollywood A-listers and enjoying lavish trips to the Caribbean, Jude had a down to earth upbringing and spend his childhood outside exploring along with younger sister Scout – named after To Kill A Mockingbird.

A keen conservationist, Mackenzie owns an an eight-acre wood in Essex, full of hornbeam, oak and sweet chestnut, where Jude would spend weekends with him.

Mackenzie previously explained: ‘The woodland is a retreat, to instill in my kids a love for the countryside.

‘My son suddenly got into the idea of managing it, so we’ve started going regularly to do a bit of coppicing.’

The Detectorist star also passed on his ‘niche and detailed’ passions to Jude, who wanted tools to build things on his birthday rather than money and modern gadgets.

At age nine Jude landed his first movie by accident, a voice role in the 2012 BAFTA-nominated stop motion film, I Am Tom Moody.

Mackenzie had been cast in the short film, which told the story of a musician battling his inner child, when writer Ainslie Henderson suggested Jude work alongside him.

Ainslie confessed: ‘When I went to record it with him [Mackenzie], I knew I still didn’t have anyone to be the son and I kind of sheepishly suggested, because I felt bad asking Jude to do it, and I didn’t know if he could do it, as I hadn’t seen Jude in a few years.’

Thankfully, Jude had inherited his father’s talents.

Ainslie continued: ‘We just decided to do it. Jude absolutely amazed me so natural. Innocent but intense.

‘The voice recording bit was done in Mackenzie’s spare room, because I didn’t want to take Jude to a recording studio as I thought that make him uncomfortable.

‘We just did it in the room in his house, and we made this little recording booth out of mattresses and duvets, like a den and we crawled inside with this one microphone and the two of them crowded around it and whispered into it.

‘They recorded maybe three times, and each take was just lovely.’

Jude stumbling into the industry follows a vein similar to his father.

Mackenzie has confessed he had no desire to pursue a career in acting until the age of 15 when he was handed a flyer for a youth theatre and decided to check it out on a whim.

He previously said of the incident: ‘That moment was defining – I went along and met friends I still have today. The seeds of my career were planted at that moment.’

Jude also clearly caught the acting bug with his voice work experience, yet put his head down and finished his school work before going on to study at London Film Academy, regarded as one of the best filmmaking schools in UK.

It was there he befriended Oscar Hewitt, Gus Herbert-Müller and Sara Beshiri – with the group going on to found Jacco Macacco Films in 2022.

The following year they released A Van Called Muriel, an independent film about four aspiring musicians on a chaotic road trip to their first-ever gig, with Jude co-writing and starring in the film.

Despite promoting the film on social media and in local interviews, Mackenzie’s name or Jude’s link to the star was not mentioned in order to garner press.

A second project is already in the pipeline, short comedy heist, Saving Penelope about friends on the hunt for a stolen Tamagotchi.

Jude does not feature in front of the camera for this project but is the sole writer and composer.

Mackenzie also has work in post-production as he has just finished filming for fantasy series The Wayfinders.

With a gap in his busy working schedule it remains to be seen if he will ever lend his star power to one of Jude’s projects, and indeed, if his son would want him to.

Friends of the Hollywood star, who turns 61 in June, previously told The Daily Mail that he has been living in London for a period and that the city is suiting him.

One told Alison Boshoff: ‘He’s been living in the UK while editing Modi, and has been living a cleaner lifestyle than at times in the past.’

His long hair is said to have come off around a fortnight ago – in advance of filming another advertising campaign for Dior.

He is the face of their best-selling fragrance, Sauvage.

Earlier in the night, Johnny attended the small UK movie premiere of Jeanne Du Barry.

He plays Louis XV and speaks in French in the picture. The film is out in the UK on Friday and released in America next month. It was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last May.

Back then, Johnny decried talk of his ‘comeback’.

Asked whether he felt ‘boycotted by Hollywood’ following  domestic abuse allegations made against him by his ex-wife Amber Heard, he said her claims were ‘just vowels and consonants floating in the air.’

Marvelous Grins and How to Brighten Them: Johnny Depp Reveals Discolored Teeth at Jeanne du Barry Premiere, Sparking Criticism from Fans on Dental Hygiene

He once joked about the dismal state of his teeth at the height of his Hollywood fame in the 1990s.

Now significantly older, Johnny Depp was clearly none the wiser on Monday evening as he revealed a set of yellowing teeth that only Captain Jack Sparrow could be proud of.

The American star, 60, was evidently in high spirits as he greeted fans The Curzon Mayfair during the UK premiere of his French language romp Jeanne Du Barry – almost a year after it featured in competition at the Cannes Film Festival.

But as he flashed a grin, Johnny’s nicotine stained teeth were on full display – after fans trolled him for poor dental hygiene while promoting the film in Cannes last May.

Johnny bragged about the dismal state of his teeth in a 1995 Premiere magazine interview that resurfaced last year, admitting he had ‘loads of cavities’.

The remarks were unearthed by Page Six after Johnny’s appearance at the Cannes Film Festival 2023, which prompted fans to troll him for his ‘rotten’ gnashers.

In the Premiere article, Johnny declared: ‘I’ve got loads of cavities. I had a root canal done eight years ago that’s unfinished. It’s like a rotten little stub.’

He insisted: ‘But I like it. It’s like when the Indians would make something beaded, they would always put imperfections on it.’

Johnny, who at the time of the interview was 31, indicated his uneven bottom teeth and said: ‘I’m proud of these.’

The Edward Scissorhands star added: ‘When I see people with perfect teeth, it drives me up the wall. I’d rather swallow a tick than have that!’

His interviewer marvelled that he managed not to have foul-smelling breath – this in spite of his dental condition plus the cigarettes and wine he had just indulged in.

Fans said he looked like Captain Jack Sparrow as he showed off his ‘rotten’ smile while launching his comeback at Cannes 2023.

The actor received a seven-minute standing ovation at the premiere of his  film Jeanne du Barry after his blockbuster court trial saw his ex-wife Amber Heard ordered to pay him £6.4million in damages.

But fans couldn’t help but pick up on the actor’s smile and how his browning teeth showed visible signs of decay as he posed for photographers on the red carpet.

Johnny recently signed a £16million cologne deal with Dior, thanks to his striking looks and charm.

But unlike many Hollywood stars, the actor has shunned spending thousands on pearly white veneers or expensive composite bonding.

Johnny is known for transforming his smile depending on the roles he plays. For Pirates of the Caribbean he had extensive gold capping of his teeth.

He held onto the gold caps until filming closed on the third installment of the franchise.

Johnny has also been open about his battle with substance abuse and told the court during the defamation trial he’d tried ‘every kind of drug known to man’ by age 14.
