John Duttons Legacy Lives On in Yellowstone Spin-off

Despite his shocking death in the final season of Yellowstone, rancher John Dutton remains a presence in the new spin-off about his family. 

John, played by , was killed off in a murder-for-hire plot in the fifth and final season of Yellowstone. 

the new show following his youngest son and former Navy SEAL, Kayce Dutton.

Being a member of the family, however, appeared to be something Kayce (Luke Grimes) kept close to his chest while serving in the military. 

'All those years of door-kicking, you never once mentioned that you're some Rockefeller,' Kayce's pal and former Navy SEAL teammate Pete Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green) told the Dutton, according to People.

'That was the best part about being a SEAL. Being a Dutton didn't matter,' Kayce replied.

John Dutton's presence lingers in the new Yellowstone spinoff, Marshals, which follows his youngest son, Kayce Dutton 

John was also brought up during a conversation between Kayce and his son Tate, according to People. 

'The only reason I'm gripping this place so tight is because it's the only thing I have to offer you, son,' Kayce told his son of their East Camp ranch. 

'But what if I'm not sure I want it?' Tate asks.

Grimes became a household name on the smash hit series playing Kayce Dutton, the son of Kevin Costner's rancher patriarch, John Dutton

The spinoff, debuted on March 1, is centered around an elite team of US Marshals in Montana.

This tough group takes on gang members, the cartels and even Grizzly bears.

Gil Birmingham is returning as Broken Rock Reservation chief Thomas Rainwater.

He is seen in a trailer telling Kayce that all the Duttons are born killers, but that Kayce is different because he is a 'protector.'

The show also brings back Mo Brings Plenty as Mo.

American Horror Story star Ash Santos, Killers of the Flower Moon actor Tatanka Means and The Vampire Diaries alumna Arielle Kebbel have also been cast.

They are joining the program as series regulars, playing Kayce's fellow US Marshals, respectively called Andrea, Miles and Belle.

Meanwhile, Brett Cullen, who played Batman's father Thomas Wayne in Joker, will recur as the Montana head of the US Marshals, Harry Gifford.

Marshals: A Yellowstone Story will also feature Logan Marshall-Green, whose casting as Kayce's old military buddy Pete Calvin was announced last year.

The show's logline says Kayce will attempt to 'bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence.'

Grimes starred throughout the hugely successful five-season run of Yellowstone as Kayce Dutton, one of the family of ranchers at the center of the story.
