The 35-year-old funnyman was competing on the quiz show when he explained that the bizarre occurrence was an accident.
'I actually ate my grandma,' the Nova presenter told host Andy Lee on the 'spooky-themed' episode of the Nine show.
He went on to explain that his grandmother was supposed to have her ashes scattered at a Dan Murphy's liquor outlet in Mandurah, a coastal village in .
'Hand on heart, this is a true story,' Joel continued.
'A strong wind picked up, and I got a big mouthful of Muriel [grandma].'

Andy would not let the subject pass as the studio audience reacted with raucous laughter.
'Wow, what did it taste like?' he asked.
'Just as bitter dead as alive,' Joel joked.
Andy then shot back with a reference to the classic Australian film Muriel's Wedding, starring Toni Collette.
'And did you have the opportunity to say, "You're terrible, Muriel" as you spat it out?' Andy said, using the well-known catchphrase from the 1994 box office hit.
Joel is a regular panellist on The Hundred with Andy Lee.
The presenter, who previously co- discussed his new lunchtime show in an interview with Stellar magazine last month.

'When this time slot came up, I thought: it's time to put on my big boy pants and tackle it solo.
He went on to explain that his grandmother was supposed to have her ashes scattered at a Dan Murphy's liquor outlet in Mandurah, a coastal village in Western Australia
Nova announced a huge shake-up when the station revealed it had axed Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie from the early morning slot and replaced them with Ricki-Lee & Tim.
But fans of their current Drive show were left confused when comedian Joel didn't appear to be included in the announcement, despite being the third on their team.

The host revealed on the Ricki-Lee, Tim & Joel show that he won't be moving far because he had landed his very own national show on Nova.
