Joe Jonas Shares Insights on Co-Parenting with Sophie Turner

Joe Jonas made rare comments about raising two daughters with ex-wife Sophie Turner.

The 35-year-old singer — who recently reunited with the Game Of Thrones alum to celebrate their eldest child’s birthday — got candid about parenthood during his appearance on Tuesday’s episode of Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast.

The former Disney channel star grew up in a household with three other brothers: his Jonas Brothers bandmates Kevin, 37 and Nick, 32, as well as their less-famous younger brother Frankie, 24. 

Joe — who shares daughters Willa, five, and Delphine, three, with Sophie — said, ‘Boys are so different than girls. I’ll watch my kids on the playground and it’s, like, delicate. 

‘And then this kid will be like, “Ahh!” And dive off the top of the slide. And you’re just like, “That is a boy.”‘ 

Amy — who is the mother of two teenage sons — humorously chimed in to add, ‘Your frontal lobes close later.’

Joe also recalled his own childhood and gave credit to his mother Denise for raising multiple sons.

‘Four boys in one home. She was the boss, you know,’ the Cake By The Ocean singer said, before sharing how she also gave them an ‘understanding of how to be nice guys to women.’ 

He continued, ‘Growing up we needed a loud voice like her to be able to control us and also make sure that we weren’t pieces of s***. I think that was important.’ 

Joe and Sophie were married from 2019 until their divorce was finalized in September of last year. 

In May, he held a conversation with the podcast host and motivational speaker Jay Shetty in a TikTok video in which he opened up about his co-parenting relationship with the actress. 

‘I have a beautiful co-parenting relationship that I’m really grateful for,’ he said. ‘Having an incredible mom, Sophie, for those girls is like a dream come true.’ 

The performer emphasized the importance of his daughters having great female role models in their lives, including Sophie and his own mom Denise. 

‘As young girls, looking up to great women is what I want for them. I think what values I want for them are to be open-minded and have a big heart,’ he said.

Joe added that he wanted his daughters to ‘Be able to walk into any room and feel confidence and know that they can do literally anything they want.’ 

The Camp Rock alumnus sparked up a romance with Sophie in 2016, and the pair went on to tie the knot in 2019.

However, in 2023, it was revealed that the two stars had split, with their divorce was finalized in September 2024.

During the grueling process, Joe and Sophie were locked in a custody battle over their daughters, which was fueled by disagreements over where the little ones would reside full-time.

At one point, the British-born actress filed a child abduction claim against her ex, but later asked that the judge dismiss it in January of last year.

And in March, Daily Mail revealed that Sophie is set to return to her home country, the UK, with their two children. 

During an interview with British Vogue, Sophie opened up about the effect of having a public divorce.

‘I mean, those were the worst few days of my life,’ the Joan actress stated. ‘I remember I was on set, I was contracted to be on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave.

‘My kids were in the States, and I couldn’t get to them because I had to finish [ITV drama] Joan. And all these articles started coming out…’

Also in May, Joe talked about the most ‘intimidating’ part of his divorce during a TalkShopLive stream. 

At one point, the performer talked about the track Only Love from his album Music For People Who Believe In Love, which dropped on May 23. 

‘I was seeing somebody at the time and I was kind of having this idea of dating again,’ he recalled. ‘It was really scary and intimidating. Love takes different shapes and forms and I was rediscovering what that was.’

Joe remembered that someone he was dating — whom he did not name — had simply told him, ‘Well, it’s only love.’

‘I was like, “Well, when you put it that way…” So we wrote a song about it. Like, it was not a big deal, but it was a big deal to me, and a big deal to them, too,’ he recalled

The former Disney channel star added, ‘But it’s OK to take a leap of faith and just try again and put yourself out there.’ 

In July, Joe and Sophie were seen having a mini-reunion in Miami to celebrate their daughter Willa’s fifth birthday. 

The gathering was the actress’s first public sighting with her ex Joe’s family since their split. 

However at one point during the evening, Sophie was seen keeping her distance from Joe and his brothers as she took a video call on a balcony. 

In late June, Sophie and Joe were also spotted together in NYC as they held a conversation during a stroll in footage captured by a fan, per Complex.  

Sophie has been romantically linked to Peregrine Pearson, although the pair were recently embroiled in split speculation. But they have since rekindled their romance and were also spotted together at Glastonbury. 

Joe also dated actress and singer Stormi Bree, but they went their separate ways in June of last year. 

The actor, as well as his brothers Nick and Kevin, are preparing to embark on their 20th anniversary Jonas Brothers tour, called JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometown. 

Concerts kick off on Sunday, August 10, at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. 

The trio will make stops in other cities across North America, including Toronto, Detroit, Los Angeles, Vancouver, San Francisco, Kansas City, Austin, Tampa and Cleveland. The tour will conclude on November 14 in Uncasville, Connecticut. 

The Jonas Brothers will also be supported on their tour by Marshmello, The All-American Rejects and Boys Like Girls. 

The upcoming concerts have been described as ‘Bringing you all of your JB favorites both old and new, solo performances from Nick, Joe, DNCE, and The Administration.’
