Referring to the cast, that also included Austin Butler, Clifton Collins and Michael Ward, ‘I love all these people around me.’

Eddington, is a modern Western/dark comedy set in 2020 in the fictional small town in New Mexico during the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown.

Pascal stars as the town’s mayor who has implemented mandatory masking. Phoenix is the town sheriff, who refuses to put one on, alleging he has asthma and can’t breathe if he masks up.

Stone the sheriff’s wife who struggles with mental health issues, due to sexual abuse as a child.

Butler is a social media guru who claims his being the victim of a pedophile sex-trafficking ring allows him the empathy to provide consolation to others.’

A Black Lives Matter protest goes awry, when an unhoused man, played by Collins, becomes violent and video of his arrest goes viral amid claims of police brutality.

Elsewhere on the red carpet Emma appeared to have an epic meltdown when an unexpected guest got up in her face. While posing for photos alongside Pedro and Austin, the actress’ face suddenly twisted in surprise and fear.

Her co-stars started laughing at her reaction as a bee started flying a little too close for comfort and tried to help her swat it away.

As she was breaking down over the sudden surprise, her two co-stars tried to save her as Butler attempted to blow the bee away but accidentally made it fly even closer to Stone.

Then, Pascal waved the bee away with his hand before wrapping his arms around Stone to catch her when her knees’ buckled and she pretended to melt away in relief.

Later, Stone also suffered a wardrobe wobble, but luckily, the fan-favorite Hollywood heartthrob came to her rescue.

Deadline’s Damon Wise wrote in his review of Eddington, ‘Though all its parts don’t quite knit together, Eddington is what you might call a big swing, a film that’s more serious than it first seems, seeing Covid as the Big Bang that landed us right where we are now.’

The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney was less generous, calling the two hour and 29 minute movie ‘Essentially a modern Western marbled with a vein of dark comedy, the movie is neither suspenseful nor funny enough to work as either. Mostly, it’s a distancing slog.’

Meanwhile, The Independent’s Kevin EG Perry called it Aster’s ‘funniest film to date.

Perry praised the filmmaker for making ‘use of an ever expanding and shifting cast to dot the 150-minute runtime with well-observed comic details and visual payoffs. These often riff on the deadpan reactions of the Black and Native American characters to Joe and his meathead deputy.’

Audiences will have an opportunity to decide for themselves when Eddington opens in theaters July 16.
