Jimmy Kimmel shared some exciting family news as he returned to his late-night talk show on Tuesday after unexpectedly canceling Monday’s episode.
During his opening monologue, the A-list comedian, 57, revealed that he is now a grandfather.
He explained to the audience that he was forced to cancel Monday’s episode because his eldest daughter Katie Kimmel, 33, had gone into labor.
She gave birth to her first child, a baby daughter, with husband Will Logsdon that evening.
‘I am the host of the show. Thank you, thank you for coming, thank you for watching, thank you for joining us here in Hollywood,’ Kimmel began.
‘We are back to work after an extra day off. You know, we were supposed to have a show last night, but we didn’t because my daughter [Katie] had a baby last night.’

He and the costume designer were married from 1988 to 2002.
He also have two young children — daughter Jane, 10, and son Billy, eight — with current wife Molly McNearney, 47, who he’s been married to since 2013.
Kimmel continued: ‘My oldest daughter – you know, people don’t realize, people that know I have two little kids, they don’t know I have to older kids.’
The TV host went on to joke that his eldest Katie is a senior citizen before explaining how his granddaughter’s birth occurred at the same time Monday’s show was set to film.
‘My oldest daughter, she’s 83-years-old. Her name is Katie. Katie and her husband Will had a baby girl right at the time we shoot our show last night.
‘So I decided to be there instead here,’ Kimmel concluded.
Katie, who works as an artist and is huge animal lover, has yet to publicly confirm her daughter’s arrival herself.
She first announced the news of her pregnancy in March when she revealed to her Instagram followers that she was expecting a girl.

Katie and Will, who, according to his Instagram, is a musician, secretly tied the knot in Las Vegas on September 18, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Exactly one year later, the couple married a second time in a wedding ceremony attended by their friends and family.
Footage from the ceremony showed Katie and dad Jimmy having their father daughter dance after she and Will exchanged vows.
The TV star spoke about his excitement for his daughter’s wedding just days before the ceremony during a 2021 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
He told DeGeneres that his daughter getting married was a ‘big deal’ to him.
‘She actually turned 30 two weeks ago, which is strange to have a 30-year-old daughter. And she is getting married this weekend, as a matter of fact, which is a big deal,’ Kimmel said at the time.
He received a congratulations from DeGeneres, which prompted him to launch into a funny rant about how strange it was that he was being congratulated for his daughter’s milestone.

‘People keep saying congratulations. I don’t know what I’m being congratulated for. Congratulations on raising a human that is attractive enough to be taken by one person. It’s not like we were trying to get rid of her, you know?’ he said.
‘It’s not like we’re selling a houseboat on eBay or something like that. But I guess congratulations is the thing.’
While Kimmel frequently posts his and wife Molly’s young kids to Instagram, he’s mostly kept his adult children off his page, which is followed by 3 million people.
He last posted a photo of Katie in August 2021 as he paid tribute to her on her 30th birthday.
He posted a throwback photo of a baby Katie sitting on his shoulder.
Kimmel went on to pen a heartfelt caption where he described his daughter as ‘talented and delightful.’
‘I am so proud of what a great person you‘ve become. Thanks for making me a Dad, Little Head,’ the star concluded the post.
