Rapper Sexyy Red hit by lawsuit over shocking Jerry Springer-style antics

Sexyy Red has been hit by a lawsuit from her child’s grandmother, alleging that the rapper told her social media followers to attack her.

The ‘Pound Town’ singer – real name Janae Wherry – took to social media to ask her fans to ‘kick the door in’ of Nicole Barnes’ home and ‘conduct acts of violence’ against the grandmother, the lawsuit obtained by DailyMail.com said.

Barnes, the paternal grandmother of one of the rapper’s two children, said she realized on December 3, 2024 that the 26-year-old took to Facebook and shared her address and a picture of her home ‘with the intent to incite violence,’ the legal filing revealed.

The ‘Get it Sexyy’ star , who was rumored to be in a romantic relationship with Drakethen allegedly told her fans to physically assault Barnes, 51, the lawsuit, filed on Monday, stated.

The legal filing against Sexyy Red is alleging assault, as well as intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress – and describes a crisis among the female family members that is akin to an outrageous Jerry Springer Show storyline.

Barnes asked the court for a judgement and $5 million in damages.

Because of the alleged abuse, Barnes had to move out of her home in Hazelwood, Missouri due to fears over her safety, documents said.

Barnes is currently struggling to find a new home at a ‘comparable price’ since vacating the one that the rapper allegedly posted online.

‘Sexyy Red and her baby daddy are getting into beefs, for whatever reason, that have nothing to do with my client,’ Steven Weaver, Barnes’ attorney, told St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

‘We did try to informally resolve it, and her attorneys thought it was a joke. And now they’re finding out it’s not.’

Weaver said his client filed a police report at the time of the alleged post and has been living in constant fear ever since.

He said Barnes even had to go to therapy for the emotional distress the situation has caused her.

DailyMail.com contacted Sexyy Red’s spokesperson for comment.

This is not the first time the rapper has been caught up in legal drama as she was arrested in June 2024 at New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport.

The St. Louis native was captured on surveillance video in the midst of a huge fight inside the airport.

At the time, police told TMZ she and her companions got into a brawl with another group.

Video obtained by the publication showed Sexyy Red enter the frame as a group of men were fighting on the floor.

Barnes said she realized on December 3, 2024 that the 26-year-old took to Facebook and shared her address and a picture of her home 'with the intent to incite violence'

Barnes said she realized on December 3, 2024 that the 26-year-old took to Facebook and shared her address and a picture of her home ‘with the intent to incite violence’

The star then picked up a metal stand and waved it around, but it did not appear she made any contact with the group. She was then pulled away from the fight and fell to the floor.

After airport security intervened the ‘U My Everything’ hitmaker and a few others were arrested.

She appeared to break her silence following the incident – sharing a clip saying: ‘Good morning, I just got out.’

She also posted: ‘To the people that was in that altercation at the airport, please DM me so I can replace yo phone!’

The Port Authority Police told the outlet the rapper was arrested for disorderly conduct while a couple others involved in the fight were booked on assault charges.

The alleged victims went to the hospital for minor injuries.

Sexyy Red is known for her raunchy lyrics and straight to-the-point manner of speaking.

Her first song, called ‘Ah Thousand Jugs,’ came from a novel route of inspiration as it was a diss-track about her boyfriend who was cheating on her.

To her surprise he liked it and inspired her to record it properly in 2018.

But her biggest hit has come much more recently, with Pound Town in 2023.

The song’s unapologetically vulgar lyrics drew attention from many in the industry including Anaconda singer Nicki Minaj.

Minaj agreed to jump on the track in a May 2023 remix, which would become Sexyy Red’s first Billboard Hot 100 entry, peaking at number 66.

In August, she promoted the relaunch of her  Northside Princess beauty brand – complete with extremely NSFW names.

She shocked fans by giving the glosses names including ‘gonorrhea’, ‘blue b*llz’, and a reference to being intimate while menstruating.

The rapper provocatively posed on a table at her Northside Princess headquarters while wearing a black sheer blouse, matching bicycle shorts, and heels.

Sexyy Red certainly raised eyebrows in her hometown when she first released the glosses circa 2019-2020, and she’s simply capitalizing on her newfound fame to move the ‘new and improved’ stock.

Raphael. known for her trademark red glasses, made history in 1983 as the first woman to host an audience-participation, issue-drive talk show, with her own Sally Jessy Raphael Show.

She was on air for three years before Oprah Winfrey, who had her own beloved talk show, hit the airwaves, covering human interest stories and current affairs.

She won a Daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series Host in 1989.

The show, known later as Sally, won a Daytime Emmy in 1990 for Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.

However, as the competition increased for ratings against competitors such and Maury Povich and Jerry Springer in the 1990s, the program began focusing on more unsavory topics, such as revealing the results of paternity tests on air.

‘The last years of doing those Maury Povich/Jerry Springer shows? I hated them,’ Raphael said on a 2016 episode of Oprah: Where Are They Now?

Inside Oprah Winfrey’s feud with Jerry Springer as her behaviour is branded ‘inappropriate’ by late talk show host’s staff in explosive documentary

Producers on The Jerry Springer Show hit out at Oprah Winfrey this month as they recalled her long-running feud with the late talk show host.

Jerry’s controversial tabloid talk show, which aired from 1991 to 2018, made history as the first programme to topple The Oprah Winfrey Show in the ratings, yet Oprah, 70, made no secret of her disdain for the programme – branding it ‘appalling’.

When The Jerry Springer Show first began to gain traction in the late Nineties for its outrageous content Oprah was asked her thoughts on the eponymous host – who died in 2023 after battling pancreatic cancer.

Kicking off her feud with Jerry, Oprah said at the time: ‘Jerry Springer is in a class all by himself, if you want to call that a class. I think he just is – he’s out, he’s gone, that whole show, I think it’s appalling. I can’t believe what I’m seeing.

‘I watched the other day and this guy pulled his pants down and there he is, he opens himself – I can’t believe what I’m seeing when I watch that show!’

When challenged that it was herself who ‘led the way with confessional TV and people baring their soul’, Oprah hit back: ‘Confessing and baring your soul is one thing, baring your penis is another.’

Producers on The Jerry Springer Show have hit out at Oprah Winfrey as they recalled her long-running feud with the late talk show host (hosts pictured in the Nineties)

Oprah also lashed out at the show in a 1999 interview with The Times, when she claimed the programme would pave the way to shows airing sex scenes on daytime television.

She predicted: ‘We will see sexual intercourse on television. And I would not be surprised if one person actually kills another.

‘I am all talked out. My contract has two years left, then I am getting out of such shows, because I feel they are going to burn themselves out.

‘I am in disbelief about things that are happening on television talk shows. How low can it get? Can public taste keep on sinking? Yes, it can. I have to get out.’

‘Up until a few months ago, I felt that Jerry Springer was giving us some serious competition but I don’t think it is sustainable because his show is such a vulgarity circus.

‘Unless you are going to kill people on the air, and not just hit them on the head with chairs, and unless you are going to have sexual intercourse – and not just, as I saw the other day, a guy pulling down his pants and pulling out his penis – then there comes a point when you have oversaturated yourself.’

While the show continued to be a ratings success for many years, Oprah was correct in predicting there would be a fatality.

Tragically, Nancy Campbell-Panitz was murdered by her ex-husband Ralf Panitz in July 2000, just two months after they were on the controversial chat show as part of a love triangle storyline.

While Oprah made it clear she was not a fan of Jerry’s programme, he insisted her had nothing but respect for her.

Responding to her jibes, Jerry told The Post: ‘It’s fine, I really like Oprah. She’s great.

‘I know she doesn’t like my show, but that’s OK. My mum wouldn’t have liked this show, either – and I loved her.’

Jerry also praised Oprah’s tenancy when she stepped down from her long-running talk show in 2011.

Speaking to ET Online, he said: ‘It is the end of an era. She is the best that has ever been – Oprah and Phil Donahue. Donahue created [the genre] and she perfected it.

‘There will never be another talk show like hers, or have the same impact – at least not in the foreseeable future.’

Jerry – who was Mayor of Cincinnati in 1997 – added: ‘If she needs a job, I think I can find her one! They have good government programs to help her!’

Former staff members on Jerry’s show spoke out about the feud in the Netflix documentary as they referenced the numerous jibes Oprah made.

Toby Yoshimura said: 'The way that Oprah behaved compared to the way Jerry behaved? Jerry was class act. He gave her the right of way and she punched back. It was so inappropriate'

Producer Toby Yoshimura said: ‘Oprah would say “why would Jerry put those guests on?” Jerry didn’t put those guests on, I put those guests on. You’re yelling at the wrong guy.

Executive producer Richard Dominick added: ‘Oprah p***ed me off, especially because Jerry was so nice. Jerry was the nicest man in the in the world.

‘He was a great man and a gentleman and I felt like she needed to be taught a lesson – that’s when we went after her and that’s when I could taste the blood.’

The producers explained that it became their mission to overtake Oprah in the ratings, pushing the boat out to book even more explosive and controversial guests.

Toby shared: ‘That battle with Oprah was kind of this pressure cooker of like – now the knob has to go to 11.

‘But we weren’t a huge production machine we were this little band of crazy people that were just trying to survive the week.

‘Sometimes you’d be trying to book a story all the way up to the day before your show and have nothing.

‘That’s when it’s better to just sleep in the office and keep calling and if you were lucky something would happen.’

Their hard work paid off, however, and in 1998 they finally scored more viewers than the chat show juggernaut.

Remembering Phil Donahue: The Inventor of the Talk Show

Daytime legend Sally Jessy Raphael has praised her talk show host peer Phil Donahue following his death at age 88.

Donahue died at his home following a lengthy illness on Sunday, surrounded by his family including wife Marlo Thomas.

Speaking with People, Raphael – who hosted her eponymous show from 1983 to 2002 – called Donahue the ‘inventor of the talk show’ as she commended the respect he had for his female audience.

‘He invented the whole idea of talk shows. I came next, then came Ricki Lake, then came Oprah [Winfrey], then came Jerry Springer, then came Maury Povich, then came Geraldo Rivera, then came — well, a whole lot. We were all born of Phil Donahue,’ she told the outlet.

Raphael said Donahue provided a show that interested the ‘the daytime audience’ – whom he was aware was primarily made up of women.

‘He liked women and women knew it and that was very unusual in those days,’ Raphael said. ‘Men in those days weren’t known for liking women.’

Donahue famously met his second wife Marlo Thomas when she was a guest on his show in 1977 and Raphael said their chemistry was evident to viewers.

‘You could see he was very interested and so was she,’ he said.

Following news of Donahue’s death, Raphael tweeted: ‘This is a very sad day. I admired Phil Donahue for so many reasons, and he was one of the finest broadcasters in American television.

‘If there wasn’t a Phil, there would have never been a Sally. My thoughts & prayers go out to Marlo and their family.’

During an appearance alongside Geraldo Rivera on NewsNations’ Elizabeth Vargas Reports, Raphael re-iterated that Donahue cared about his female viewers.

Speaking about how Donahue incorporated the audience into his show, Raphael said: ‘He did more than that, he had phone calls at the beginning of the sixties and the seventies, he’d say, “Is the caller on?” And then he went into the audience. The thing about it was he liked women. And that was at a time when there weren’t many men that we thought liked us,’ she said.

She added: ‘He was indeed a natural but Geraldo was completely right – A, he invented daytime and B he invented making the audience the show,’ she said.

Donahue died Sunday following a lengthy illness, his family announced.

The host of The Phil Donahue Show passed away at the age of 88 while surrounded by relatives, including his actress wife Marlo, at his home.

A talk-show trailblazer, his program was the first of its kind, including now commonplace concepts like audience participation.

It ran for nearly 30 years, solidifying the onetime news reporter’s place in the annals of TV history.

Donahue had recently been awarded the presidential medal of freedom for his storied career.

Donahue is survived by his wife sister, children, and grandchildren, all of whom were by his side Sunday night when he passed, their statement said.

Also present was his beloved golden retriever, Charlie, as the illness he had been battling remains unknown.

His wife Marlo paid tribute to him on Instagram, sharing a sweet photo of the pair riding a motorbike together on vacation.

‘I’m sure by now you’ve heard the very sad news that I lost my sweetheart last night,’ she wrote in the caption.

‘I know you understand that I’ll be stepping away from this page for a while to take care of myself and the many people who took care of Phil, and held him close to their hearts.

‘But I didn’t want to disappear without saying thank you for the beautiful messages of love and support that have been coming in all day,’ the 86-year-old actress disclaimed.

‘[A]nd for the wonderful and generous way that you’ve let Phil and me share our life adventure with you over the years.’

She continued: ‘As a man who spent his career loving his audiences, Phil got such a kick out of our cozy little community [on social media], and I know he would be very touched by the heartwarming thoughts and memories you’ve been sharing.

‘Until I return, I wish you good health and happy days in the company of family and friends, and I hope that you will continue to hold close those you cherish most, just as I was blessed to do with my beloved Phillip,’ she said.

Notable Omissions from 2024 Emmys In Memoriam Segment: Ryan O’Neal, Jerry Springer, and Ray Stevenson

A number of notable names of entertainers who died last year were not included in the ceremony’s In Memoriam segment on Monday evening’s broadcast of the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards.

Ryan O’Neal, Ray Stevenson and Jerry Springer were among the group of late entertainers not mentioned during the somber segment at the award show, which was held at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

A number of people vented their frustration at the group of people left off the segment, in which Charlie Puth played his 2015 song See You Again juxtaposed against a montage of entertainers who had died in the last year.

O’Neal’s son Patrick was among those who took to X/Twitter after the actor was left out of the segment following his death at the age of 82 last month.

‘Wasn’t watching #Emmys but someone let me know they left my dad out of the “in memoriam” …. kind of wish I didn’t know right now but I would’ve found out,’ Patrick O’Neal said. ‘Sad and mad is a paralyzing combo.’

In response to Patrick’s tweet, another user called the omission ‘disgraceful,’ adding, ‘He will always be a legend. What a miss by #EmmyAwards.’

Elsewhere, another user noted O’Neal’s career roots in the medium after appearing on the series Peyton Place from 1964-1969.

‘I can’t believe the in memoriam segment on the Emmy’s left out Ryan O’Neal. Got his start on Peyton Place,’ one user said, while another described the omission of O’Neal – who also had regular roles on shows such as Bones, Empire and Good Sports- ‘shameful.’

Said one user, ‘I legit rewound to be like: “How did I miss Ryan O’Neal?” That’s a big omission from the #Emmys. He had a ton of TV credits.’

Users also wondered about the absence of talk show pioneer Springer from the memorial, following his death at the age of 79 last April.

One person asked, ‘Uhhh… where the heck was Jerry Springer in the memorial?!’

Another user said of the late talk show host – who was at the helm of his series from 1991-2018 for more that 3,000 TV episodes – ‘Don’t forget about Jerry Springer for the Tribute of Celebs 2023 from last year.’

Following last month’s passing of iconic TV creator Norman Lear at 101, All in the Family alums Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers introduced the somber segment with a tribute to Lear.

‘We were part of a very unique family, not just the Bunkers, but Norman Lear’s extended family,’ they said.

People who were featured in the segment included Matthew Perry, Lance Reddick, Angela Lansbury, Barbara Walters, Suzanne Somers, Andre Braugher, Paul Reubens, Treat Williams, Leslie Jordan, Harry Belafonte, Alan Arkin, Bob Barker, Cindy Williams and Angus Cloud.

In a special tribute to Perry, Puth and The War and Treaty performed I’ll Be There for You, the theme song from Perry’s show Friends.
