Jeremy Strong admits he felt a ‘dangerous kinship’ with President Donald Trump in The Apprentice as he reflects on ‘painful’ New Yorker profile in new GQ Hype shoot

Jeremy Strong has revealed he felt a ‘dangerous kinship’ with Donald Trump while starring in biopic The Apprentice, as he graced the cover of GQ Hype’s latest issue.

The Succession star played lawyer Roy Crohn in the biopic opposite Sebastian Stan as a younger incarnation of the future US President, with both landing Academy Award nominations for their performances.

Jeremy admitted that after playing Roy in the film, he’s developed a partial sympathy for him and Trump, despite the latter’s already-divisive second term as President.

He said: ‘Certainly when I was doing it and sort of inside of it, I felt kinship with the Donald character. I want to be careful of how I talk about this; it feels dangerous.

‘There’s a line that was omitted from the movie, but basically it defined what linked them, which was in Roy’s words, that they were both willing to walk over fresh corpses to get what they want.

‘And so that sort of dark alliance and kinship, I certainly felt while we were making it. And did it change how I see Trump on a human level?

‘Probably. I mean, whether it’s Roy Cohn, or even Lee Harvey Oswald [in 2013’s Parkland], or Kendall Roy [in Succession], or any of these characters—I get the sense that people label them despicable, monstrous, whatever.

‘And I don’t disagree with that in some cases, but you have to suspend your judgment to try and walk in their shoes and understand them.’

The Apprentice offers a glimpse at Trump’s early career as a real estate mogul in the 1970s and 1980s, and despite being praised by critics, has only grossed $17 million at the box office.

Jeremy went onto say that given the way Trump is presented in the film, if more young people had seen it, it could have had an impact on their votes in the US Election last year.

He added: ‘I’ve thought about this a lot. I mean, I’m someone who was deeply affected by watching certain movies when I was growing up, and in a lot of ways, they informed a lot of my worldview.

‘I remember movies like Mississippi Burning or The Killing Fields, or Midnight Express. These kinds of movies had a huge impact on me. So I think certainly for a lot of the younger people who didn’t vote, it may have moved the needle.’

Jeremy, who earned praise for his role as Kendall Roy in the satirical black comedy Succession, also reflected on his now-infamous profile in The New Yorker in 2021, which raised eyebrows as it detailed his intense acting methods.

In it the star admitted he doesn’t agree that Succession is a dark comedy – insisted he doesn’t consider himself to be a method actor but practices what he calls ‘identity diffusion’.

Jeremy also admitted he had injured his leg on season three and fractured his foot during season one after throwing himself into scenes.

After the interview was published, many stars spoke out in support of Jeremy, including Jessica Chastain, who branded it ‘snarky’ and ‘one-sided.’

Reflecting on the 2021 interview, Jeremy told GQ: ‘Yeah, it was really painful. It’s painful to feel misunderstood and misrepresented, and I’m sure there were things about it where looking in the mirror can also be painful.’

Jeremy added that his recent appearance in a Super Bowl advert for Dunkin’ Donuts, where he appeared opposite Ben and Casey Affleck, was his ‘response’ to the perception of him pushed by the profile.

He added: ‘And this Dunkin’ commercial, I did this because it was my answer and response to all of that stuff. A repudiation of it.

‘A way, in its own form of risk, of actually poking fun at myself, poking fun at this absurd notion. I’ve never called myself a Method actor. Never once.

‘The Bean Method is as absurd or as legitimate as these ideas that are going around. So I had fun with that and I thought it was just a way of saying Listen, I take what I do extremely seriously, but I don’t take myself all that seriously.’

‘I don’t think it’s a defensive posture. I think it was, Okay, they want me to do this thing, [and] I actually think I have a really f*****g funny idea that could make fun of myself.

‘And I’ve never been interested in hosting Saturday Night Live, but if I could do one skit, one sketch, I’d have a lot of time to prepare for it, hone it, play with it, and do it on my own terms… I came up with all of it.’

The commercial begins with flashback footage from last year’s Super Bowl ad, where the DunKings were a pop group.

One year later, Affleck is seen chatting with his brother Casey, revealing the ‘thing’ now is ‘diss tracks,’ possibly referencing the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef.

‘Everyone’s insulting each other, that’s how you get successful. We battle the other coffee brands and win this cup,’ Ben says, though Casey doesn’t want to do it.

Casey said it, ‘looks stupid,’ as Ben adds, ‘This is why people call you a difficult actor,’ though Casey insists, ‘No one says that.’

They’re then seen a the ‘Java Jam: Battle of the Coffee Brand Bands,’ where Ben is signing autographs at the Dunkin booth.

A young kid is disappointed that Tom Brady and Matt Damon aren’t there, as Ben insists they don’t have ‘the heart of a champion.’

The kid doesn’t think Ben is talented as he teased a ‘fourth DunKing’ that’s a ‘big surprise,’ as they cut to Boston native Jeremy Strong’s dressing room.

The famous method actor is seen pouring Dunkin coffee beans over his head as Ben and Casey enter as Jeremy comes out of a huge barrel of coffee grounds.

‘I’m just trying to find the character,’ Strong insists, adding he’s, ‘trying to talk to the beans, immerse myself in the beans.’

Strong adds that he thinks the ‘way in,’ which involves Revolutionary War legend Paul Revere.

Affleck is approached by Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, who have made several movies together, as Affleck wonders, ‘Aren’t you guys a little old?’

They interact with an ‘expensive coffee brand’ that Belichick jokes he would need to coach two teams to afford that brand.

They also find a fast food brand and another coffee brand called Barista Buds that is likely a reference to Starbucks before Strong arrives dressed as Paul Revere.

Jeremy makes a convincing proclamation that gets the whole Java Jam to applaud as the Dunkin crew seemingly wins the Java Jam.

  • Ben Affleck recruits brother Casey and Succession star Jeremy Strong as he brings back the DunKings for hilarious new Dunkin Super Bowl ad

Ben Affleck recruits brother Casey and Succession star Jeremy Strong as he brings back the DunKings for hilarious new Dunkin Super Bowl ad

Ben Affleck has recruited his brother Casey Affleck and Succession star Jeremy Strong for a hilarious new Dunkin advert for the 2025 Super Bowl.

Last year, the Hollywood actor, 52, teamed up with Matt Damon and Tom Brady to form fictional band The DunKings, with the viral video also featuring his then-wife Jennifer Lopez.

And this time round, Ben has enlisted fellow Bostonians Casey, 49, and Jeremy, 46, for another round of funny hijinks in the latest Dunkin outing, which was teased on Monday during the 67th Grammy Awards on CBS.

But his plans face an early hitch when Succession star and notorious method actor Strong literally gets fully immersed into his latest role with ‘The Bean Method’ – submerging himself in a giant canister of Dunkin’ coffee beans.

The video sees an orange tracksuit-clad Ben and Casey (who takes it a step further with a pink bucket hat and orange tinted shades) knocking on the dressing room door of Jeremy.

As he and Casey chat outside, Casey informs his sibling that as a method actor, Jeremy is ‘preparing, he’s doing his research’ and is ‘not coming out ’till he’s ready’.

After some banter, the duo then burst through the door, only to be confronted by Jeremy emerging from a huge cup of coffee beans.

As Ben questions his actions, a straight-faced Jeremy responds ‘We’re doing a Dunkin Donuts commercial right? I’m just trying to find the character. I think I found a way in.

‘You’re from Boston. I’m from Boston. Dunkin is Boston. Boston is Paul Revere. One if by land, two if by sea. The Redcoats are coming.’

The Good Will Hunting star Ben then interrupts and asks ‘You’re an artist and I know what that’s like, but how long is it going to take for the bean method?’, with Jeremy remarking: ‘Three hours.’

Referring to Matt, Casey then turns to Ben as he quips: ‘You should have paid for Matt’, with Ben adding: ‘I told you that.’

It comes a year after Ben starred in the 2024 Dunkin commercial in which he formed the DunKings with Matt Damon, 54, and Tom Brady, 47, with the ad also featuring his then-wife Jennifer Lopez, 55.

The funny clip saw Affleck barge into JLo’s recording session with his group and dance enthusiastically to their music, with Brady serving as keyboardist and Damon reluctantly joining along.

‘We talked about this,’ JLo scolds Affleck after his performance, before the group leave – minus Brady, whom Lopez asked to remain.

The ad spawned mixed reactions from fans on social media, with some calling it the best of the night and some calling it ‘cringe’ during the game.

Dunkin went on to release a four-minute version of the ad as well as the full DunKings song, which features the world’s favorite new boy band.

Just days after Ben stole the hearts of coffee lovers with his Dunkin’ commercial, which aired during the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers game, the coffee and donut empire released an extended version, which features Charli D’Amelio, Jack Harlow, and Jennifer Lopez, who also made the original cut.

And for fans who couldn’t get enough of Ben, Matt, and Tom, Dunkin’ gave them a Valentine’s Day treat by releasing the full DunKings song, which is titled Don’t Dunk Away At My Heart.

The extended version of the ad and the release of the song came after the bright orange tracksuits that The DunKings wore sold out in under 20 minutes.

Meanwhile, it was claimed last year that Ben was paid close to $10 million dollars for his first appearance in the breakfast chain’s Super Bowl ad back in 2023.

The 30-second clip saw the Hollywood star surprise real customers coming through the drive-thru.

While the eight-figure payout may seem high, an insider familiar with the two-time Oscar winner’s Dunkin’ Super Bowl campaign noted that the company ‘sold more donuts the next day than any other day in their history.’

‘We ran it once and got 7 billion media impressions, and it kind of kickstarted the year,’ Scott Murphy, the president of Dunkin’, told Entrepreneur about the 2023 ad.

The commercial, which was also directed, partially conceptualized and produced by Affleck, was the first time Dunkin’ ran an ad during the Super Bowl.

Dunkin’ was founded in Quincy, Massachusetts as Open Kettle in 1948, before the name was changed to Dunkin’ Donuts in 1950.

The ad was filmed at a Medford, Massachusetts Dunkin in early January 2023, with paparazzi photographs showcasing the actor serving unsuspecting patrons.

Meanwhile, it was claimed last year that Ben was paid close to $10 million dollars for his first appearance in the breakfast chain's Super Bowl ad back in 2023 (seen in 2023)

The actor, who grew up in Cambridge, MA, has been a lifelong fan of Dunkin, like many Massachusetts natives.

When Dunkin finally made its way to the West Coast, with the first Los Angeles Dunkin shop opening in 2014, Affleck revealed in a 2019 interview with Collider that he has Dunkin every day.

‘It’s amazing! I have Dunkin Donuts everyday. It’s very weird, I have it every day and people are always like, “Where is that? Is that near here?” So, I feel like I’m spreading the word,’ Affleck said.

Super Bowl LIX takes place on February 9 and see the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Another fan joked that Jeremy told his stylist he wanted to look like ‘a cross between a 70s bathroom and, uhh, like, the *cuddliest* pimp.’

The pair have been married since 2016.

Jeremy was nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in The Apprentice.

However, it was his onscreen brother and Succession co-star Kieran Culkin who took home the award for his role in A Real Pain.

The victory was especially significant, as he was up against heavyweights like Yura Borisov (Anora), Edward Norton (A Complete Unknown), Guy Pearce (The Brutalist) and Denzel Washington (Gladiator II).

It comes after Strong’s method acting on Succession was blasted by Culkin, who made a barbed comment.

Culkin took issue with actors who call themselves ‘storytellers.’

During a conversation with Coleman Domingo for Variety’s annual Actors on Actors series, Culkin, 42, said, ‘I object to when actors call themselves “storytellers.” I don’t really like that. Sorry, Jeremy [Strong].

Culkin and Strong played siblings Roman and Kendall Roy on Succession, a series about the Roy family children vying for control over their father Logan’s billion-dollar business.

‘I don’t think I’m telling the story. Jesse Eisenberg was really good at making sure everyone was involved, but he wrote it,’ he said, referring to his A Real Pain co-star.

‘He’s telling the story. We’re all helping him. So that note you got — if you’re aware of the story you’re trying to tell, and you’re trying to tell the story in the scene, that’s not really your job.’

Domingo replied, ‘We’re not storytellers. We’re servants of the story,’ prompting Culkin to say, ‘Let’s f***ing work together, man.

Strong was previously profiled in Vanity Fair talking about his commitment to method acting, a school of acting in which the actor inhabits the character 24/7 for the duration of the shoot.

Daniel Day Lewis is a famous and well-known actor who also was a method actor and he retired at 60, citing the toll that school of acting took and how he didn’t believe in his work or characters anymore.

In an interview with The Sunday Times earlier this fall, Strong revealed that his role as Kendall Roy ‘f***ed up his life’ and had a worrying long-term impact on his mental health.

He explained that he ‘sometimes lost touch with joy’ while reflecting on his time playing the character on the Emmy-winning hit series Succession.

‘It f***ed me up,’ he admitted before adding that he ‘doesn’t miss it,’ he said noting that unlike his co-stars, he didn’t leave his character on set, he lived it all of the time.

‘Listen, that show was an incalculable gift,’ Strong said about Succession and finally leaving his character behind. ‘The material a banquet. So I miss that.’

He continued: ‘But Kendall’s struggle was difficult to carry for seven years. And there’s just so much more I want to do.’

When asked if he would return to the role for a spin-off if the opportunity presented itself, he shut it down.

‘It’s not something I have any wish to do any longer,’ he said. ‘I’m aware it is one of the main chapters of my life, but I don’t miss it.’

Culkin isn’t the only person that has criticized Strong’s method acting, so has Brian Cox, who played the family patriarch Logan Roy.

In early 2023, he called Strong’s method acting ‘f***ing annoying.’ But recently he had a somewhat backhanded compliment to pay to Strong.

‘He was wonderful to act with. I had no argument with Jeremy’s acting,’ Cox said in an interview with The Guardian.

‘He would be an even better actor if he just got rid of that so there would be much more inclusiveness in what he did.’

Succession star Jeremy Strong ROASTED over his velvet outfit with matching bucket hat at 2025 Golden Globes

Succession star Jeremy Strong was roasted by fans after he made a bold fashion choice at the 2025 Golden Globes on Sunday.

The actor, 46, sported a teal velvet suit with a matching bucket hat and a white turtleneck underneath.

He completed the look with a pair of teal-rim and orange-tinted sunglasses, a luxury watch, and black dress shoes.

His daring fashion choice sparked a flurry of jabs from fans, with some comparing him to ‘Paddington bear’s cousin.’

Others joked that he resembled his Succession character Kendall Roy, who was known for testing fashion limits in order to appear cool.

‘Fire your fashion designer,’ one fan pleaded with the Zero Dark Thirty star.

One fan wrote out an imaginary scenario between Jeremy and his stylist.

‘STYLIST: What do you wanna do for the Golden Globes? JEREMY STRONG: I’m thinking Hunter S. Thompson in the Beastie Boys. STYLIST: Got it. JEREMY STRONG: Paddington’s cousin who sells coke. STYLIST: Okay. JEREMY STRONG: Stanley Tucci playing Gilligan. STYLIST: Right.’

Another fan joked that Jeremy told his stylist he wanted to look like ‘a cross between a 70s bathroom and, uhh, like, the *cuddliest* pimp.’

Many pointed out the similarities between Jeremy and his Succession character Kendall, joking that the look was reminiscent to one particular birthday scene from the show.

In a Season 3 episode, Kendall throws himself a lavish birthday party, wearing a flashy and bold outfit for the occasion, consisting of a bright green Prada turtleneck paired with a Gucci bomber jacket.

‘It’s giving Kendall birthday party vibes,’ another added.

‘This is Kendall all the way.’

‘Caught Jeremy Strong at the Golden Globes looking like he raided the wardrobe of a Scooby-Doo villain. Dude, the only mystery here is how he thought this was a good look,’ another questioned.

‘actually jeremy strong lived up to his name bc i can’t imagine 1. going to an awards ceremony, 2. in a turtleneck and velvet suit and bucket hat, 3. and losing for the second year in a row against my coworker.’

Jeremy ditched his memorable moustache and usual stubble as he hit the red carpet in a stylish pale green suit with he layered over a crisp white shirt.

He also showcased darker hair instead of salt and pepper locks, which he styled into a quiff just weeks ago.

Jeremy was reunited at the star-studded bash with former co-star Kieran Culkin, 42, who played his brother Roman Roy.

Kieran commanded attention in a bejewelled tuxedo and put on a very animated display as he posed up a storm ahead of the ceremony.

It comes after Jeremy revealed his role in Succession had a worrying long-term impact on his mental health.

The actor explained that he ‘sometimes lost touch with joy’ while reflecting on his time playing the character on the Emmy-winning hit series.

‘It f***ed me up,’ he admitted in a recent interview with The Sunday Times before adding that he ‘doesn’t miss it.’

Since moving on from the role, the Golden Globe winner — who was previously criticized by his on-screen father, Brian Cox, for his unrelenting method acting — said he has found ‘joy’ in his life again.

‘I went on a silent meditation retreat last week,’ he continued. ‘I really needed it.’

He explained: ‘There’s so much noise and busyness now. I have opportunities that I only ever imagined.’

Jeremy also shared how healing the silent retreat was to his life and well-being.

‘I’ve rediscovered play,’ he said. ‘I sometimes lost touch with joy.’

The actor — who is known for being a dedicated method actor — was previously ‘overwhelmed’ by his role as Kendall, the wounded black sheep of the Roy dynasty.

During his chat, he admitted how relieved he was to leave the role and the show behind.

Because unlike his co-stars, he did not leave his character on the set and continued to embody Kendall even when he was off-camera and off the screen.

He previously told the outlet that he would imagine terrible things happening in his own life to mentally prepare for the role, which ultimately harmed his mental health.

Now, he said that even though Succession was a ‘gift,’ he is glad he no longer has to ‘carry Kendall’s struggle’ anymore and ‘doesn’t miss it.’

He teamed the two-piece suede suit with a matching polo neck jumper and added a pair of patent shoes.

Jeremy was joined by his co-stars Sebastian Stan, who plays Donald Trump, Maria Bakalova, who stars as Ivana, and filmmaker Ali Abbasi.

The film, which chronicles Trump’s real estate career, has been at the centre of a media storm after it flopped in box office and was slammed by Donald himself.

Donald lost it on Truth Social over the new movie on Monday .

It includes controversial scenes including one where Trump sexually assaults his then-wife, Ivana, and one where he gets liposuction and surgery to cover up a growing bald spot at the back of his head.

Trump called the movie ‘FAKE’ and ‘CLASSLESS’ on Truth Social, adding that it ‘will hopefully ‘bomb.”

‘It’s a cheap, defamatory, and politically disgusting hatchet job, put out right before the 2024 Presidential Election, to try and hurt the Greatest Political Movement in the History of our Country,’  he said.

He added that his late wife Ivana ‘was a kind and wonderful person, and I had a great relationship with her until the day she died’.

The writer of this pile of garbage, Gabe Sherman, a lowlife and talentless hack, who has long been widely discredited, knew that, but chose to ignore it,’  he continued.

‘So sad that HUMAN SCUM, like the people involved in this hopefully unsuccessful enterprise, are allowed to say and do whatever they want in order to hurt a Political Movement, which is far bigger than any of us. MAGA2024!’

Prior to writing the film, his first feature, Sherman wrote for Vanity Fair and New York magazine and authored the Roger Ailes biography, The Loudest Voice in the Room.

After adapting that book for a Showtime limited series starring Russell Crowe, Sherman started penning the movie that would become The Apprentice.

He said he thoroughly reported out the script.

‘I read everything I could about Donald Trump and Roy Cohn and New York City in the 1970s and ’80s,’ Sherman said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. ‘

‘And then I went out interviewing people who knew Donald and Roy during those years and asked them for more anecdotes. So it was a mix of historical research plus my own interviews.’

The rape scene is based on a divorce deposition from Ivana Trump that she later recanted in 2015 after he announced his first presidential run.

The actress, 28, looked chic in a green patterned silk dress as she posed ahead of the gala screening of The Apprentice at the BFI London Film Festival.

The Bulgarian star, who rose to fame after her starring role in Sacha Baron Cohen’s Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, donned a figure hugging dress with a black and white pattern across the skirt.

The actress also posed alongside her co-stars Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong and director Ali Abassi who all looked dapper in sleek brown suits.

Sebastian opted for a dark brown pair of trousers and a lighter grey-brown jacket which he wore open over his white shirt.

Jeremy wore a brown velvet blazer and a light brown turtle neck while Ali opted for an all black look.

Maria’s elegant appearance in London comes after she was spotted alongside Anne Hathaway at the New York premiere of the Donald Trump biopic last week.

The film, directed by Ali Abbassi and written by Gabriel Sherman, follows Trump during his career as a real estate baron in the 1970s and 80s.

Sebastian stars as the businessman turned politician while Jeremy Strong portrays his lawyer Roy Cohn and Maria plays Trump’s ex-wife Ivana.

The plot follows a young Donald building his career as a Manhattan real estate mogul alongside his first wife Ivana, played by Maria.

His mentor, the fearsome lawyer Roy Cohn (Jeremy Strong), who was previously Joe McCarthy’s right-hand man during the Red Scare shapes Trump in to the man he is today.

The film has received largely positive reviews with The New York Times calling the film ‘gleefully vulgar’.

Reviewer Manohla Dargis wrote: ‘Each actor has clearly made an attentive study of his character’s real-life counterpart, his mannerisms, how he moves and especially his voice.’

She added: ‘The movie encourages you to laugh at his extremes, his vanity and braggadocio, the one thing that the filmmakers don’t prepare you for, even if you should know better, is the magnitude of the American tragedy rapidly unfolding before you.

In another positive review, the Los Angeles Times said Sebastian Stan delivers ‘the performance of his career to date’ and also praised the film’s cinematography for capturing its 1980s setting well.

Reviewer Katie Walsh added: ‘Some may want ‘The Apprentice’ to go further. It does humanize Trump. But it also presents a plainly obvious depiction of how a man can turn into a monster with the right personality, background and guidance. What more could it possibly need to say?’

Movie fansite JoBlo also gave The Apprentice a glowing review and said Jeremy Strong’s performance as Roy Cohn made him the ‘true star’ of the film.

Reviewer Chris Bumbray wrote: ‘Abbasi gives a tremendous sense of pace, with it a lean and mean two hours, and entertaining from start to finish, regardless of where on the political spectrum you may be.’

It comes after the Trump campaign announced it will sue the ‘pretend filmmakers’ behind The Apprentice because it shows the presidential candidate raping his wife Ivana.

It said it was riddled with long debunked lies and belonged in a ‘dumpster fire.’

The movie tells the story of the end of his marriage to Ivana, and at one point it depicts Trump raping his wife and asking: ‘Did I find your g spot?’

In a divorce deposition in 1989 Ivana made an accusation of rape but rescinded this in 2015. She has since died.

‘We will be filing a lawsuit to address the blatantly false assertions from these pretend filmmakers,’ said Steven Cheung, Trump campaign communications director.

‘This garbage is pure fiction which sensationalizes lies that have been long debunked.

‘As with the illegal Biden Trials, this is election interference by Hollywood elites, who know that President Trump will retake the White House and beat their candidate of choice because nothing they have done has worked.

‘This “film” is pure malicious defamation, should not see the light of day, and doesn’t even deserve a place in the straight-to-DVD section of a bargain bin at a soon-to-be-closed discount movie store, it belongs in a dumpster fire.’

The makers of the film are also reported to be in dispute with one of its financial backers, billionaire Dan Snyder, who is a Trump supporter and former donor to his campaign.

In Ivana Trump’s 1990 divorce deposition, she stated that Mr Trump raped her. She claimed that Trump pushed her to the floor and pulled out several handfuls of her hair.

Mr Trump denied the allegation and Ivana Trump later said she did not mean it literally, but rather that she had felt violated.

In a 1993 statement, she said, ‘On one occasion during 1989, Mr Trump and I had marital relations in which he behaved very differently towards me than he had during our marriage.

‘As a woman I felt violated … I referred to this as a rape, but I do not want my words to be interpreted in a literal or criminal sense.’

It includes controversial scenes including one where Trump sexually assaults his then-wife, Ivana Trump, and one where he gets liposuction and surgery to cover up a growing bald spot at the back of his head.

    ‘MAGA2024!’

And then I went out interviewing people who knew Donald and Roy during those years and asked them for more anecdotes. So it was a mix of historical research plus my own interviews.’

The rape scene is based on a divorce deposition from Ivana Trump that she later recanted in 2015 after he announced his first presidential run.

Stan plays Trump and the Roy Cohn character is played by Jeremy Strong of Succession fame.

The movie’s director, Ali Abbasi, was in Washington, D.C. last week and told an audience there that he had initially thought about casting a woman in the Trump part.

‘There was a time before I started talking to Sebastian I thought that maybe it should be an actress playing Trump,’ Abbasi said. ‘Because I thought there was something awkward and off about his body language and I wanted to have that. I wanted to sort of play with that. And we tried it.’

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Abbasi wouldn’t reveal which actresses he spoke to about portraying Trump on the big screen, though he did say that he reached out to Cate Blanchett for advice, as she did a ‘great job’ playing Bob Dylan.

‘I did talk to a few people about that and I was serious about it,’ Abbasi said in an interview Monday.

‘I did overlays of young Donald’s face and different actresses that I was considering,’ he continued. ‘I talked to my prosthetics person and tried to figure out how we could solve it if someone had the good proportions or not.’

Abbasi told DailyMail.com that he also conducted a voice test using a woman.

‘And in the end, I think, I just felt like the whole thing became too gimmicky,’ he said.

‘It would go contrary to my goal, which was humanizing and, you know, capturing complexity. And it would become a movie about how you did that stunt,’ the director said.

And the team behind the Donald Trump biopic may be hearing the reality star’s iconic phrase ‘You’re fired’ following its disappointing box office debut.

The film struggled to attract audiences, earning only an estimated $1.58 million despite a $16 million production budget and a release in 1,750 theaters.

Its opening day results were particularly underwhelming, with the film grossing around $150,000 on Thursday.

Despite these challenges, the movie, featuring Sebastian Stan as Trump and Jeremy Strong as Republican operative Roy Cohn, has received mostly positive reviews.

Meanwhile, production company Briarcliff Entertainment is reportedly aiming to position the film for awards consideration.

In a largely positive review, The New York Times called the film ‘gleefully vulgar’ and said there was a ‘startling’ resemblance between leads Sebastian and Jeremy and the real-life men they portray.

Succession’s Kendall Roy Role Devastated Me

Jeremy Strong has revealed that playing Kendall Roy had a worrying long-term impact on his mental health.

The 45-year-old actor explained that he ‘sometimes lost touch with joy’ while reflecting on his time playing the character on the Emmy-winning hit series Succession.

Strong also shared how healing the silent retreat was to his life and well-being.

‘I’ve rediscovered play,’ he said. ‘I sometimes lost touch with joy.’

Strong — who is known for being a dedicated method actor — was previously ‘overwhelmed’ by his role as Kendall, the wounded black sheep of the Roy dynasty.

In his interview, he also spoke about his latest role in the controversial new film, The Apprentice.

Strong talked about his experience playing Roy Cohn — the ruthless and morally corrupt attorney and mentor of Donald Trump.

After Steven Cheung, Trump’s 2024 campaign spokesperson, called the biopic a ‘malicious defamation [that] belongs in a dumpster fire,’ Strong said it ‘made me laugh.’

‘Because it’s exactly what Roy would have counseled them to do,’ he explained.

‘Attack, deny everything, never admit defeat. Their tactic is a campaign of misinformation. Without seeing the movie, they assumed it could be damaging. But there’s nothing in it that Trump himself hasn’t touted or bragged about.’

The Apprentice is now in theaters after premiering on Friday, October 11.

It comes after the Trump campaign announced it will sue the ‘pretend filmmakers’ behind The Apprentice because it shows the presidential candidate raping his wife Ivana.

It said it was riddled with long debunked lies and belonged in a ‘dumpster fire.’

Actress and trans rights activist Laverne Cox flashed the flesh in a sizzling metallic outfit that left precious little to the imagination.

The Orange Is The New Black star flaunted her cleavage and hinted at her enviably chiseled midriff in the structured minidress.

Cut dangerously high, the asymmetrical hemline allowed her to show off her statuesque legs to full advantage as she balanced on a towering set of stilettos.

Wearing her blonde locks in a hairdo reminiscent of the 1950s, she brought the ensemble together with a pair of glistening hoop earrings.

Catherine McNally, who plays the lead character’s mother Mary Anne Trump in The Apprentice, made her presence felt in a blue dress made of velvet or velour.

The Apprentice is directed by Persian-Danish filmmaker Ali Abbasi, whose previous movie was the serial killer thriller Holy Spider set in the eastern Iranian city Mashhad.

Meanwhile the screenplay was penned by Gabriel Sherman, who wrote the biography The Loudest Voice In The Room about Fox News impresario Roger Ailes.

After getting its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this May, the movie will open in theaters in the United States this Friday.

Jeremy Strong and his wife Emma Wall had a celebratory date night on Sunday at the Tony Awards as he won the Best Actor award for his role in An Enemy of the People.

The loved-up couple were glued to each other on the red carpet in their glam looks.

The Succession actor, 45, wore his favorite color, brown, in the form of a custom velvet tuxedo jacket with a shawl collar and black slacks.

He added some flair with a black ribbon bow tie and a unique collar on his white shirt.

His 36-year-old Denmark-born wife wore a long black dress with interesting texture on the bodice and several strands of pearls wound around her neck.

Brown has become the actor’s signature color. In a cover story for GQ last year he recounted something his wife said.

‘My wife told me that somebody said something like, “The three things you’re going to be certain of are death, taxes, and that Jeremy Strong will be wearing brown.”

‘I don’t know. It’s inexplicable,’ he continued about his go-to look, which he also called ‘monastic chic.’

He went on to explain: ‘I spend so much of my life wearing costumes, I feel almost denuded in my style. It’s so consistent and neutral that almost anytime I put on any wardrobe, I feel profoundly different from my baseline self.’

In his acceptance speech he thanked Amy Herzog who adapted An Enemy of the People for the stage. Jeremy also revealed he met his wife through her.

‘Thank you Amy, for your masterful work on this play. The last time I did a play of yours I met Emma, my wife, who I now have three beautiful children with.’

Jeremy and Emma met at a party in 2012 and married in 2016. They have three daughters: Ingrid, six, Clara, four, and a third daughter born in September 2021 who they have not shared the name of.

Emma is primarily a child psychologist who works for the foster care system in Los Angeles and as a clinician and teacher at UCLA.

She received her B.A. from Brown University and attended medical school at Oxford University.

Strong went on to thank the theater staff in his acceptance speech, apologizing for coming in looking like a train wreck.

‘I want to thank the ushers and the front-of-house staff who see me walking in every day looking like I’ve just been run over by a truck, and see me walk out looking somehow even worse, with bits of pretzels and Aquavit in my hair,’ Strong also said in his Tony acceptance speech.

He was up against William Jackson Harper, Leslie Odom, Jr., Liev Schreiber and Michael Stuhlbarg.

‘I felt overwhelmed,’ Strong told People of his emotional acceptance speech. ‘I was on stage today a few hours ago.

‘It’s a very different thing to disappear into a play than it is to stand up as yourself in front of your community. But I felt overwhelmed with gratitude.’

He continued: ‘To be honest, any contest when it comes to creative work is inherently ridiculous, so this belongs to me just as much as it belongs to William, and Liev, and Michael, and Leslie. But I feel very honored and moved.’

An Enemy of the People is running on Broadway through June 23.
