Jeremy Renner during an appearance on CNN on New Year’s Eve shared that he was with his family again after being nearly crushed to death by a 14,000-pound snow plow at his Lake Tahoe property last year.
The 52-year-old actor was interviewed by co-hosts Anderson Cooper, 56, and Andy Cohen, 55, during their New Year’s Eve broadcast after being severely injured in the January 1, 2023, accident that left him with more than 30 broken bones, a collapsed lung and pierced liver from a shattered rib.
Cooper asked Renner what got him through his tough year.
‘I’m just so blessed that I have so many things to live for, brother. I have a giant family, I have a 10-year-old daughter, [and] I would’ve disappointed and really messed up a lot of people’s lives if I would’ve passed, and so there’s a lot for me to get better for,’ Renner replied.
Renner, who portrays Hawkeye for Marvel Studios, also credited his stubborn personality for helping him recover.

‘There was a lot for me to fight for, and recovery was just a one-way road in my mind. My recovery became relief for me, because I knew I could give relief to my family, my daughter and all those that I really affected. And my poor nephew, who was there with me on that day, I gave him images that he can never unsee, but I know that my healing would be healing for him,’ Renner said.
‘With that, I’d never thought about my own physical ailments, my own pain, or my own anguish. I had so many things to fight for, so the one-way road of recovery was my mental, sort of, attitude, and that attitude was always to get better. There’s no option other than that. And I still work at every part, every day, and thank God that I have a lot to fight for,’ he added.
Renner had been using a Snowcat plow to try to help his adult nephew, Alexander Fries, pull his car out of deep snow when he jumped out, forgetting to put on the emergency brake.
The plow started barreling towards his nephew and the actor is believed to have tried to get back into the snowplow while it was moving in an effort to bring it to a halt, but was instead pulled beneath it and crushed.
Renner made his first red carpet appearance in April when he attended the premiere of his Disney+ series Rennervations.
The actor while on CNN also spoke about his new music coming out on Monday one the one-year anniversary that documents his past year.
Renner said music has been healing for him and the project was sort of a ‘journal entry’.
‘It was healing for all the people I wrote it with, all of my friends. All of my recovery has been where the better I got the better everybody else got. The music became also a narrative of that. So very happy to be able to do it,’ Renner said.
