Jennifer Love Hewitt talks Sarah Michelle Gellar feud rumors and denies ordering character’s death

Jennifer Love Hewitt and her former I Know What Your Did Last Summer castmate Sarah Michelle Gellar have been dealing with rumors of an on-set feud ever since they shot Jim Gillespie’s slasher flick 27 years ago.

‘Somebody the other day was, like, “Yeah, I think [Jennifer] made sure that she was killed because girl actresses don’t like to work with girl actresses,”‘ the 45-year-old former child star scoffed on Tommy DiDario’s podcast December 10.

‘I was like, “What are you talking about? I was 18. They were not taking script notes from me, guys. What are you talking about?”‘

Indeed, it was screenwriter Kevin Williamson who loosely adapted Lois Duncan’s 1973 novel to have Sarah’s pageant princess character Helen Shivers stabbed by The Fisherman – ensuring she’d never return for the sequels.

‘All of us were in that experience together, you know, figuring it all out and everything,’ Jennifer recalled.

‘And I root for her and Freddie [Prinze Jr. who met on set]. I think it’s the cutest thing in the world that they’ve been married for 100 years and have kids. It’s, like, adorable. So yeah it’s just been really funny to see all of the [feud] stuff that people think.’

The Holiday Junkie director-star and Freddie are reprising their roles of protagonist Julie James and her fisherman ex Ray Bronson in Sony Pictures’ untitled fourth film hitting US theaters July 18.

The very next day, Hewitt officially confirmed her return and the Daytime Emmy winner explained she contractually couldn’t reveal it due to the non-disclosure agreement she signed months earlier due to Prinze Jr.’s involvement.

The Golden Globe nominee said her delay on signing on for more IKWYDLS was mostly due to ‘scheduling.’

‘I just don’t want to be the ghost of nineties past,’ Jennifer told DiDario.

‘I really want to do something, and I want to be there for Julie James fans. I just want it to feel like, you know, if she comes back then it means something.’

Hewitt also teased that she’s ‘working on’ a potential song to accompany the horror movie soundtrack and coyly said of a possible return from Brandy Norwood’s character Karla Wilson: ‘I have heard that. Yes, I have.’
