Jennifer Lawrence dropped hints as to why she has been so emotional lately during her new cover story for W Magazine’s The Art Issue.
The 35-year-old Oscar winner – who recently left Jimmy Fallon squirming as she burst into tears on The Tonight Show – reflected on motherhood and being pregnant while filming the comedic thriller Die My Love.
The Hunger Games star shares son Cy, three, and another little boy welcomed in March of this year with husband Cooke Maroney.
Lawrence explained that she had ‘felt completely connected’ to Cy after he was born before commenting on the difficulty to go back to work as a mother.
She admitted to the outlet that she understood ‘the world wasn’t designed around that relationship.’
The star added, ‘Suddenly, you’re like, Wait, how am I supposed to go back to work? Get in a car and drive away? Get on an airplane and fly away from my baby? Like, what are you talking about? Everything looks different after that.’

The actress sparked alarm when she let out loud dramatic wails during an interview on Jimmy Fallon this week
Lawrence additionally revealed that she had been ‘very sick’ during her last pregnancy with baby number two.
‘I knew I was going to be doing the movie, and I also knew that I needed a second child before my other son got too old,’ Lawrence explained to the outlet.
‘In the first trimester, you’re very sick; and in the second trimester, you start to feel better,’ she continued, before jokingly adding, ‘Real sexy family planning.’
The actress also talked about becoming a parent and described motherhood as taking ‘any kind of veneer off, because now you’re seeing the world through somebody else’s eyes – somebody who’s so much more important than you are.’
In Die My Love – which was directed by Lynne Ramsay – Lawrence portrays the role of a young mother named Grace who falls into postpartum psychosis.
The actress’s view on the film altered after she gave birth to her second child and said, ‘When I’m performing, it all has to be real and straightforward. Everything Grace does has to feel grounded.
‘Watching it back, I was like, Oh, maybe that was a fantasy. Maybe that was in her mind. I have different versions of how the whole movie could be interpreted now.’

While talking to People earlier this month, she expressed that it had helped her dive into her role in Die My Love.
‘I didn’t really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby]. I think that just added another layer.’
She added, ‘I mean, I don’t think that you have to have kids to play a parent by any means, but having that information about, you know, what a tiny person needs, and is looking for. Just having that information was helpful.’
It comes shortly after the Silver Linings Playbook actress made an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday.
She repeatedly burst into tears during the episode which began with her telling the talk show host that she was ‘nervous.’
The star also referenced to her recent The New Yorker profile where she had talked about feeling ‘annoying’ in interviews when she was younger.
Lawrence said that she ‘wasn’t gonna say a f***ing word’ on the talk show which prompted Fallon to say, ‘No, you have to say something!’
The actress then let out loud dramatic wails which occurred when talking about her new movie Die My Love.
‘[Director] Lynne Ramsay is someone I’ve always wanted to work with. So basically, she cracked it and she’s a genius and… I can’t believe I’m still talking!’

The mom-of-two began to cry loudly with Fallon jumping in to say, ‘No, stop crying! Stop crying! No, this is fun! You’re having fun on a talk show! Stop crying. Just trust me, this is fun.’
She quickly stopped weeping and said, ‘Okay,’ with a laugh.
Along with Lawrence, other stars cast in Die My Love include Robert Pattinson, Sissy Spacek and LaKeith Stanfield.
The black comedy drama – which is based on the novel Die, My Love by Ariana Harwicz – officially hits theaters on November 7.
Lawrence recently shared why she refused an intimacy coordinator while working with Pattinson on set of the movie.
‘We did not have [an intimacy coordinator], or maybe we did but we didn’t really,’ she stated on a recent episode of the Las Culturistas podcast.
‘I felt really safe with Rob. He is not pervy and very in love with [his partner] Suki Waterhouse.’
The star explained that the pair developed a trust with each other and added they both spent time ‘talking about our kids and relationships.’

‘There was never any weird like, “Does he think I like him?” If there was a little bit of that I would probably have an intimacy coordinator.’
The mom-of-two added, ‘A lot of male actors get offended if you don’t want to f*** them, and then the punishment starts. He was not like that.’
Lawrence also appears nude in the movie and explained being pregnant at the time had helped her in terms of confidence.
‘I don’t care about nudity. I’m not sensitive about it. I wanted Lynne to have total freedom artistically,’ she said, referencing to the director.

Lawrence got candid about her different approach to nude scenes in her 2023 romantic comedy No Hard Feelings.
‘I think being pregnant took a lot of vanity anxiety away. Before No Hard Feelings, I was dieting and not eating carbs and working out.’
The actress continued, ‘I was pregnant [for Die My Love]. Like, what was I gonna do? Not eat? I was working 15 hours a day. I was just tired.’
Aside from Die My Love, Lawrence has been keeping busy and is set to star in Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of What Happens At Night.
