Jennifer Aniston Slams ‘Crazy’ Big Tech Over AI Deepfake Concerns

Jennifer Aniston has spoken out against big tech.

The Friends star, 56, revealed that she is constantly haunted by deepfakes in a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar UK.

‘I catch things all the time, or friends send me things saying, “I don’t think this is you”, or “I don’t think you’re advertising this’” and I’ll send it to my lawyers so they can do a cease-and-desist.’

‘It’s just such a runaway train,’ she added, referring to the growth of Artificial Intelligence.

‘Big tech, it’s crazy,’ the actress — who also spoke about her 20-year battle to have a baby in the interview — summed up.

‘I’m sure the guys who came up with it thought it was a great idea and, yeah, congratulations on your billions, but it has taken down a huge portion of humanity.’

The star recently told The Sun she’s discovered deepfake versions of herself promoting products like weight loss and collagen supplements.

‘It’s a very unsettling thing that’s happening in the world with AI. I get sent things from family and friends asking, am I promoting this product, did I make this commercial?’

‘And it’s so clear to me that it’s not me, but even at first glance you understand why someone would think it’s you,’ she said.

Earlier this year a British man revealed how he was cruelly conned out of $266 – by what he believed was a heartfelt message from Aniston.

Paul Davis, 43, from Southampton, fell victim to a disturbing new wave of artificial intelligence scams after being bombarded with messages from deepfake celebrity accounts on social media.

In one particularly cruel twist, Davis was sent an image of what looked like Jennifer Aniston’s driving licence, before she told him she ‘loves him’ and asked for money.

Tragically, Paul believed the message was real – and sent the money in the form of non-refundable Apple gift cards.

Aniston is not the only one struggling with deepfakes.

Earlier this year, a scammer who conned a French woman named Anne out of almost $931,000 by posing as Aniston’s ex-husband, Brad Pitt.

The woman shared with French media that she had parted with a fortune to help with what she believed was cancer treatment for the film star.

The victim told French channel TF1 that she had received a message on social media from someone claiming to be the actor’s mother before hearing from an account she believed to be Pitt himself.

Anne thought she had grown close to the actor after months of talking, before things took a romantic turn. But after disclosing that she had separated from her millionaire partner, she said she was asked for money to help with health complications as his money was tied up in divorce proceedings.

The scammers used fake social media and WhatsApp accounts, as well as AI image-creating technology to send Anne what appeared to be selfies and messages from Pitt, stringing her along until things came to a head last summer.

The victim ultimately realized the mistake when she saw that the actor was not, in fact, in hospital, and had been pictured with a new girlfriend. She was later hospitalized with severe depression, but decided to speak out and raise awareness.

Responding to Anne’s story, The Fight Club actor’s agent told Entertainment Weekly that it was ‘awful’ that ‘scammers take advantage of the strong bond between fans and celebrities’, before warning others ‘not to respond to unsolicited’ messages, ‘especially from actors who have no social media presence’.

Elsewhere in Aniston’s latest interview, the star revealed she endured a 20-year secret battle to have a baby.

In rare remarks about her personal life, the actress addressed the false narrative that she didn’t want to become a mother because she’s a ‘selfish workaholic’.

She said: ‘They didn’t know my story, or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family, because I don’t go out there and tell them my medical woes.’

‘That’s not anybody’s business. But there comes a point when you can’t not hear it – the narrative about how I won’t have a baby, won’t have a family, because I’m selfish, a workaholic.

‘It does affect me – I’m just a human being. We’re all human beings. That’s why I thought, “What the hell?”’

Aniston was married to Pitt from 2000 until 2005. They split after he met actress Angelina Jolie on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

In 2022, Jennifer tragically revealed she had unsuccessfully tried IVF – and admitted she wished she had frozen her eggs years earlier.

‘It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,’ Jennifer said at the time.

‘My late 30s, 40s, I’d gone through really hard sh[*]t, and if it wasn’t for going through that, I would’ve never become who I was meant to be. I was trying to get pregnant.’

‘All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it.’

‘I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, “Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.” You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed. But I have zero regrets.’

Jennifer was aged 35 when she split from Brad and previously said the suggestion he left her because she wouldn’t give him a child was an ‘absolute lie’.

She went on to marry actor Justin Theroux in 2015 when she was aged 46.

But theirs wasn’t to be a lasting romance. They divorced just three years later.

Back in July, it was revealed that Jennifer had officially found love again as she confirmed her passionate new romance with hunky hypnotist Jim Curtis.

A source told the Daily Mail: ‘Jennifer is dating Jim and is very happy, but she’s still taking things slowly for now.’
