Jennifer Aniston was spotted leaving the Sunset Tower Hotel in Hollywood this week with a group of girlfriends – just 40 minutes apart from her ex John Mayer.
Mayer, 48, and Aniston, 56, dated on and off for approximately a year after being introduced to one another at an Oscars party in 2008.
Early in the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, Aniston revealed to the public that she and Mayer were amicable by joining his Instagram Live session memorializing the late Bill Withers and commenting three laughing emojis at one of his jokes.Â
Aniston is now enjoying a flowering romance with hypnotist and ‘love guru’ Jim Curtis, 50, while Mayer is rumored to be dating 30-year-old TikTok star Kat Stickler.Â
On Thursday night the Friends icon was glimpsed with a claque of female pals including Jimmy Kimmel’s wife Molly McNearney emerging from the Sunset Tower Hotel, whose bar and restaurant has an enviable reputation as a celebrity hot spot.
That same night, less than an hour earlier, Mayer was seen exiting the same venue by himself with a book tucked under one of his arms.Â
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Mayer and Aniston for comment.Â

During their on-off romance, he was her date to the 2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where they were seen beaming as they enfolded each other in a tight hugÂ
Aniston cut a characteristically stylish figure in black, holding her hair away from her face as the breeze swept it about before she slipped into her car at the valet stand.
For his own night at the Sunset Tower, Mayer layered a black jacket over a pale blue button-down shirt, which he tucked into a boxy set of dull grey cargo trousers.Â
He and Aniston first started dating in 2008, three years after her first husband Brad Pitt infamously left her for Angelina Jolie and two years before she struck up her relationship with her eventual second husband Justin Theroux.
Mayer meanwhile was at the height of his notoriety as a showbiz lothario, with Aniston featuring amid a parade of high-profile girlfriends that included Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jessica Simpson, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
Aniston and Mayer dated through early 2008 but split that August, prompting him to give an impromtu press conference outside his gym saying: ‘I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right.’Â
However a source close to Aniston claimed she initiated the breakup because Mayer had ‘a relationship with certain paparazzi’ and bloggers and ‘tips them off,’ as well as because she was ‘tired of paying for everything,’ according to the Today show.Â
‘John liked living like a movie star when he was with her,’ the insider alleged. ‘Jen would never say anything, but you could tell it irritated her.’
They mended fences in time for him to be her date to the 2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where they were seen beaming as they enfolded each other in a tight hug.
Weeks later, they had broken up again, with a source explaining: ‘They had some disagreements and decided to not continue to see each other. Jen is moving on with her life like she always does. She seems happy,’ via People.
‘I’ll always be sorry that it didn’t last,’ Mayer told Playboy at the time. ‘In some ways I wish I could be with her. But I can’t change the fact that I need to be 32.’
He added that among ‘the most significant differences between us was that I was tweeting,’ and he even made note of a ‘rumor’ circulating ‘that I had been dumped because I was tweeting too much.’
Mayer observed of Aniston’s career: ‘The brunt of her success came before TMZ and Twitter. I think she’s still hoping it goes back to 1998.’Â
Aniston meanwhile said: ‘He had to put that out there that he broke up with me. And especially because it’s me. It’s not just some girl he’s dating. I get it. We’re human.’Â
His way of treating the breakup ‘doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a wonderful guy,’ she told Vogue, adding that she and Mayer ‘care about each other,’ and there ‘was no malicious intent. I deeply, deeply care about him; we talk, we adore one another. And that’s where it is.’
The year of their split, Mayer released his song Edge of Desire, which fans have been speculating ever since was written about his romance with Aniston.
‘I want you so bad, I’ll go back on the things I believe,’ he croons in the chorus of the number. ‘There I just said it, I’m scared you’ll forget about me.’
A year later he sent his Casanova image into overdrive with a buzzy interview in which he referred to his ex Jessica Simpson ‘sexual napalm’ and gushed: ‘Yeah, that girl is like crack cocaine to me,’ via Playboy.
He also declared he had ‘a Benetton heart and a f***in’ David Duke c***’ and recalled the time he gave Perez Hilton ‘the dirtiest, tongue-iest kiss I have ever put on anybody’ as a way to ‘outgay’ him at a New Year’s Eve party.
In another interview the same year, he claimed to ‘have masturbated myself out of serious problems in my life’ and shared that he wanted a woman with ‘a vagina you could pitch a tent on and just camp out on for, like, a weekend,’ per Rolling Stone.
This past October, Mayer was glimpsed enjoying a night out with TikTok influencer Kat Stickler, who at 30 is more than a decade and a half his junior.
A month ago a source claimed the pair were ‘getting serious’ about their relationship, adding: ‘John is at a point in his life where he is ready to settle down and is looking to seriously date,’ according to Us Weekly.
Meanwhile Aniston set off a whirlwind of romance rumors with Hollywood hypnotist and ‘love guru’ Jim Curtis when they were glimpsed on vacation in Mallorca, Spain, over Fourth of July weekend last year.
They took their relationship to the next level in September when he supported her at the season three premiere of her Apple TV+ drama The Morning Show.
Aniston finally broke her silence about Curtis in an new interview published in November, waxing rhapsodic about how ‘extraordinary’ he is.
‘Hypnotism is one of the many things that he does. He’s quite extraordinary, and helps many, many people,’ the Horrible Bosses star gushed to Elle.
‘He’s very special, very normal, and very kind, and wants to help people heal, move through their trauma and stagnation into clarity. It’s a beautiful thing to commit your life to,’ said Aniston, who was named one of the magazine’s Women in Hollywood.Â
