Jelena Dokic has suffered a shock health scare which saw her rushed to the ER. The former Australian tennis champion found herself in hospital in Melbourne after a day’s US Open coverage

Taking to Instagram on Friday, Jelena shared a series of sobering images from the emergency room
‘It was dismissed as nothing major (a lot of women have it and live with it). Apparently. Whatever that means,’ she said.
She said the fibroid had a ‘flare up’.
‘And while that can be the case, yes, a lot of cases will also be affected more than others by the size of it, pain, flare ups and bleeding. Which is what happened to me,’ she said.
She said that she will require surgery later in the year to remove the fibroid, adding that: ‘In the meantime it’s about managing pain, heavy bleeding and flare ups.’
Jelena explained that something had ‘felt off’ for the last few months and she wanted to share her story as a timely warning to other women.
‘So, I want this post to be an important reminder. Follow your instincts and gut feeling. If something feels off, don’t ignore it,’ she said.
‘Even if it ends up being nothing, it’s better to be safe than something going really wrong later.

‘Don’t ignore pain and regular check-ups are crucial for early detection and can save your life.’
Jelena continued: ‘And most importantly never allow anyone to tell you that it’s nothing, how you should be feeling and always get a second opinion and fight for yourself and your health.
‘You know yourself best and if there is pain or something is off and someone dismisses it, go to another person and don’t take no for an answer when it comes to scans, tests and check-ups.’
Jelena rounded out her post by thanking the staff at Epworth Hospital in Melbourne with: ‘You are all amazing legends.’
The post was met with an outpouring of support and well-wishes from friends and fans.
