Jamie Oliver has admitted he was ’embarrassed’ about renewing his wedding vows to wife of 24-years Jools ahead of their lavish Maldives ceremony last year.
The couple, both 49, who first tied the knot in 2000, renewed their vows during a family holiday with children Poppy, 21, Daisy, 20, Petal, 14, Buddy, 12, and River, seven.
Despite his reservations Jamie said he ended up ‘probably enjoying [the day] more than anyone’ and they went on to exchange vows for second time earlier this year in Las Vegas to mark their 24th anniversary.
Speaking on the Newlyweds podcast he told hosts Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo: ‘We were going to renew our vows at 20 years and then covid happened. So, it was at 23 years. The girls were leaving for university and stuff, so it did feel like the nest was starting to break up’.
‘We’d never been on what you would call a posh holiday, so we went to the Maldives. I was a bit embarrassed about the whole thing, if I’m really honest, and I wasn’t so into it until we got there, and then when we got there, I think I probably enjoyed it more than anyone. It was just so nice’.

He continued: ‘The first time you get married, it’s like, it just feels a bit awkward and embarrassing. But if you ever get married again, if you get to 10 years or 20 years, the words are different. Because you’ve earned every single line and it was really, really emotional’.
‘The words are still the same words, but they mean different things. Basically, like shit we’ve done it like, wow. And then you look around, there’s all these amazing kids that you’ve made. Yeah, it was incredible.’
Last year Jamie shares a slew of snaps from the sun-soaked ceremony and penned: ‘Morning all, Me & @joolsoliver got married again! Yep After 23 years together, we thought it would be a special moment to celebrate renewing our wedding vows before the kids all start leaving the nest.
‘It was really special, funny and romantic with the words in the ceremony making more sense having come this far together.
‘It seems like a blink since the first wedding which we kept very privet apart from the paparazzi at the village church we thought it would be a happy and joyful moment to share with you all this Easter.
‘We’ve always dreamed of going to the Maldives and it was just as you would have dreamed, simply amazing ! a massive thank you to all the team at @discoversoneva for blowing our minds and making this moment so special and memorable big love guys Jamie x’
Jamie later shared more snaps to his Instagram Stories, including a selfie with his wife and daughters which he captioned: ‘My queens’.
He also posted a photograph with his two sons, Buddy and River, where he revealed that his eldest son had acted as Best Man.

Speaking about the ceremony on The Graham Norton Show in December 2023, Jamie said the vow renewal meant more to him than his actual wedding day.
He said: ‘It was my wife’s idea and I thought I’d go along with it.
‘Saying the vows a second time around actually meant something more – you’ve earned it rather than just saying it, and I loved it. It was actually a very nice thing to do, very romantic, and I ended up enjoying it more than anyone else.’
In June they couple tied the knot once again in a casual ceremony, in front of a tribute to Jool’s favourite hitmaker of all time, Elvis Presley in Vegas.
Jools arrived to the chapel wearing denim jeans, a white blouse and cowboy boots, while Jamie opted for a smarter ensemble and wore a tailored suit.
