An Australian tennis star has called out influencers for attending the Australian Open despite not knowing anything about the sport.
In a video posted to TikTok, tennis player Charlotte Nicholls said it should be ‘general knowledge’ to know about a sport if you are watching it live.
Her post came after fashion label Selfie Leslie shared a video to social media asking influencers at the Australian Open whether they understood terms including deuce, advantage point and serve.
‘I just saw a video of some influencers at The Australian Open answering some simple questions about tennis and they got none right,’ Charlotte said.
‘I just thought it was general knowledge to know a little bit about tennis.’
Charlotte continued: ‘Then I realised when I took my friends to one of my tennis games, they had absolutely no idea what was happening, they didn’t know anything about the lines, scoring and they were screaming during the points.’

‘It made me realise if you don’t play tennis or have anything to do with it, they know nothing about it.’
Her followers agreed, with one writing: ‘You are totally right, like learn a little before attending! I don’t play tennis, I’ve never held a racket but i love watching it and wish I could go to AO.’
‘I had these thoughts too girly!! I grew up in tennis so that video had me shook,’ another said.
However other fans defended the influencers, with one saying: ‘The general public don’t care about tennis so no it’s not general knowledge.’
‘Who cares if they don’t know much? They’re still allowed to attend and enjoy themselves,’ another wrote.

In a video shared to Instagram, Isabelle filmed herself getting ready to attend the match.
The Sunflower Avenue founder pulled on a pair of see-through ruffle shorts over a white G-string, and then layered her outfit with several other sheer garments.
While there is no formal dress code for the Australian Open tennis, the event prohibits thongs, singlets, ripped jeans, or other ripped clothing, and sports shorts.
However, Isabelle flirted with the boundaries of decency in a sheer off-the-shoulder mini dress, featuring a distressed hemline.
The influencer embraced the ‘naked dressing’ trend that has filtered down from the catwalks of the Australian Fashion Week runways into almost every public event.
She cinched a hipster leather belt over her slim frame and finished her look with a pair of chunky black sneakers, a tailored white overshirt, and a distressed black handbag.
She then turned her body away from the camera to tease the back of her tiny dress riding up over her sheer short shorts.
