The star has notably portrayed the role of detective Odafin Tutuola on Law & Order: SVU since 2000.
During an interview with Variety last year, the actor – whose real name is Tracy Lauren Marrow – reflected on working on the show for over two decades.
‘To be on a show this long, is like having gone to Harvard and grad school and getting my Ph.D, because every day I’m acting,’ he explained to the outlet.
Ice-T also expressed that due to being in front of the camera for so long, he has the confidence to work alongside any actor and A-list celebrity.
‘I know whatever they can bring, I can bring right back at them…Working with F. Murray Abraham, he told me to learn from the actors I work with and that’s the best training.’
‘That’s where I’m going to get my stuff. So now, I’ve worked with everybody from Jerry Lewis to Bradley Cooper,’ he said. ‘They all come through the doors of SVU and I learn something from every one of them.’
He also spoke to Variety to open up about his character on the series, and explained, ‘I’m not a cop. I’m the furthest thing from a cop.’
‘People have said that our television shows are police propaganda, making the police look good. I understand that argument.’

‘The cop I am on our show is an SVU detective…When I got the job at SVU, Dick Wolf said to me, “Ice, you don’t like cops, right?” I told him that during my criminal past, I didn’t hate cops – they were my opponents.’
‘[He asked,] “But you admit we need them, right?” I said, “Yeah.” So, Wolf told me to play the cop that we need. And if I play the cop that we need, I won’t have any problems with it.’
And while speaking to People earlier this year in January, the Colors rapper further gushed about being a part of the series.
‘I think SVU is a special show because it’s the first time I’ve ever done something where people walk up in the street and say thank you.’
‘And I found out that SVU is as much entertainment as it is therapy for a lot of women because a lot of women that watch the show are survivors – guys too. So it has a different feeling versus just normal entertainment.’
He reflected that his role initially was only set to last a few episodes, but became ‘a four-episode stint that ended up 25 years.’
