Australian cricket icon Ian Chappell and his wife Barbara Ann have snapped up a new penthouse on Sydney’s far northern beaches for $2.4million.
Located in Elanora Heights, 27kms from the CBD, the modern three-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment boasts ocean views and an entertainment deck.
Chappell, 80, who retired as a sports commentator last year, is downsizing after selling-off his sprawling waterside Bayview home for $3.55million in June reports The Daily Telegraph.
The controversial top-order batsman, who made headlines in the 1970s as part of media mogul Kerry Packer’s World Series Cricket competition bought the mansion in 1984 for $295,000.
Meanwhile, the Chappell’s new home features an expansive open plan layout with the main living area adjoining a large covered balcony, perfect for al fresco dining.

The new pad makes a big change for the Chappell’s who have lived on Sydney’s north shore for over forty years.
Their old Bayview home, located 32kms from the CBD, featured magnificent views of Pittwater and boasted four-bedroom and three-bathrooms as well as cavernous living areas.
Known ‘Chappelli’ to his many fans, Chappell began his media tenure in 1977 after knocking 5345 runs in the Aussie test side throughout 75 test matches, 30 of those as captain.
Chappell said his decision to leave the broadcasting booth was similar to his career retirement call.
‘I remember the day when I knew I’d had enough of playing cricket,’ he told the Sydney Morning Herald.
‘I looked at the clock and it was five past 11 on a day of play and I thought, ”S***, if you’re clock-watching at that time, I have to go”.’

The former Channel 9 and ABC grandstand commentator is known for long-standing feud on and off the pitch with English cricket great Sir Ian Botham.
Chappell battled with skin cancer in 2019, where he underwent six weeks of intensive radiation therapy.
He joined the Channel 9 ranks in 1980 and skipped across to the ABC team for the 2020 summer.
Chappell has recently questioned the future of Test cricket amid the rise of wealthy T20 leagues across the world.
