Haley Lu Richardson doesn’t want to ‘scare’ off her biggest celebrity crush, the Jonas Brothers.
It’s no secret the White Lotus star, 28, is a super fan of the band after she gushed about Nick, Joe and Kevin Jonas on The Late Late Show in December 2022 and subsequently ended up dancing in their music video for their single ‘Wings’.
Now she’s hoping to cement a true friendship with the trio, instead of making them wary of her incredible fondness, which she detailed in a new interview with People published Thursday.
‘I do really want to be their friend now, but I think they’re scared of me because I’m such a fan,’ she joked to the outlet. ‘I really want them to know that I feel like I’m ready to be their friend if they would like that. I think it could happen.’
The star’s wish isn’t far-fetched either, as she received a personalized video from the group in the midst of her interview.
Keeping calm: Haley Lu Richardson said she doesn’t want to ‘scare’ off her biggest celebrity crush, the Jonas Brothers
Star struck: ‘I do really want to be their friend now, but I think they’re scared of me because I’m such a fan,’ Haley joked about the Jonas Brothers
‘Hey, Haley, what’s up? It’s us,’ Joe says in the clip, per the outlet. ‘We’ve got a question for you. You’re stranded on a deserted island. You can only bring one Jonas Brothers album. Which album is that going to be?’
Before replying to the question, Haley hilariously replayed the message. ‘I want to hear them say my name one more time,’ she explained.
As for her answer, Haley said it was a toss up between the Jonas Brothers album or A Little Bit Longer. ‘I think those two are nearest and dearest to my heart.’
Haley’s fanaticism isn’t anything new, as she revealed it was a driving force for her to make it in Hollywood.
‘This is really embarrassing to say, but it’s sincere,’ she said. ‘One of the reasons [I became an actor] was because maybe I could get famous enough to meet the Jonas Bros. one day’.
Earlier this year, Haley was cast as the star of Wings, the lead single off the band’s latest album, where she used her vast dance experience throughout the video before kissing a cardboard cutout of Nick while blindfolded.
‘Those kinds of dreams don’t come true, but it did for me,’ she said of the opportunity.
Being real: Haley, who introduced the band on Today, added: ‘I really want them to know that I feel like I’m ready to be their friend if they would like that. I think it could happen’
Big dreams: The star’s wish isn’t far-fetched either, as she received a personalized video from the group in the midst of her interview
‘And it’s not lost on me. I am very thankful. It was the coolest thing’.
Later in the interview, she opened up more about her early life as a dancer, when she was participating in regional dance competitions in high school.
‘Dance has been a huge grounding thing for me because I feel so deeply,’ she said.. ‘It’s very cathartic to be able to connect your body to those emotions that I feel.’
When she turned 16, she relocated to Los Angeles alongside her mother and eventually secured a role as a backup dancer on the Disney sitcom Shake It Up, featuring Bella Thorne and Zendaya.
‘It was nuts because I was so sure of what I wanted, but there was no real reason why I should have been so sure or so sure in myself,’ Haley admitted.
Thankful: ‘Those kinds of dreams don’t come true, but it did for me,’ Haley said of starring in the Jonas Brothers’ music video for Wings
‘I just had an intense feeling that’s what I was supposed to be doing: dancing and acting. I honestly was just a girl with a dream.’
The dream paid off, as she won rave reviews for her role as an assistant to Jennifer Coolidge in the second season of White Lotus and starred in the dramedy Love at First Sight.
‘I mean, I love dancing, I love acting,’ she said. ‘It’s like just something that’s inspiring and comforting and feels right’.
