Julie Bishop has vowed to write a book reflecting on her time as an Australian politician, delivering a subtle threat to her former colleagues.
The former Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party and Foreign Affairs Minister, 67, made the shock revelation when appearing on Channel Seven’s Sunrise on Thursday.
Speaking with breakfast television co-hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington, the ex-politician said she doesn’t believe she’d be allowed to publish a tell-all memoir until all the people she’s worked with have died.
‘I’ve thought about it. And in fact, I’ve been approached on many times,’ she said.
‘But I kind of work on the theory that if I were to write a book and tell the truth, some people might not be very happy with that and then perhaps sue me for defamation.

‘So I’m going to have to wait until everybody’s passed on, and I intend to outlive them all.’
Shirvington and Barr were thrilled with the idea of Ms. Bishop’s career-based book, with Barr suggesting she ‘must have a lot to say about politics’.
‘You’ve got to [write a book] now,’ Shirvington said, to which Ms. Bishop replied, ‘Watch this space!’
‘I’ve got to outlive everybody in order to write the story I really want to write,’ she added.
Ms. Bishop retired from politics in 2019 after being involved in the career for more than 20 years.
