The Aussie actor, 25, was named GQ Breakthrough Actor of the Year, and his acceptance speech left attendees giggling and gasping.
Joseph, who is set to star in the next instalment of The Hunger Games franchise, made quite a risqué slip-up when rattling off his list of 'thank-yous.'
'I'd also like to thank my agency RGM, but mainly my agent there, Trent Barker, for helping me make everything happen,' Joseph said at the podium.
He then tried to utter a very common American slang phrase, which has very different connotations Down Under.
'And, for rooting me... rooting for me,' he said as the crowd erupted in giggles.

The Aussie actor, 20, was named GQ Breakthrough Actor of the Year, and Joseph, who is set to star in the next instalment of The Hunger Games franchise, made quite a risqué slip-up when rattling off his list of 'thank-yous'
Realising his gaffe, Joseph put his hand to his face in embarrassment and uttered a sheepish: 'f***ing hell, yeah.'
It wasn't all awkwardness for the rising star, however, with host Joel Creasey working Joseph into one of his opening monologue gags.
'Joseph is about to forget the little people, that’s us, when he appears in a lead role in the mammoth franchise that is The Hunger Games,' Creasey said.
'Which for any of the Real Housewives of Sydney in the room, is a movie, not a motto.'
The Invisible Boys star recently received his big acting break when he was cast in the leading role in the upcoming The Hunger Games movie.
Joseph beat out hundreds of fellow actors auditioning for the coveted role in the prequel film Sunrise on the Reaping, set almost 30 years before The Hunger Games trilogy.
He will play a younger version of the iconic character Haymitch Abernathy, who was portrayed by Woody Harrelson from 2012 to 2015.

'I think, when I first got the call telling me I’d got that role, it was a little bit like pinching myself for months, really,' Joseph told New Idea in February.
'Just being on set with that calibre of talent from crew to cast was really something.'
He added: 'I told everyone straight away, but also, I found out 12 hours before it was announced, and I wasn’t told it was being announced, so I wasn’t even able to tell anyone.
'Then my phone just went crazy.'
Joseph rose to fame earlier this year in the lead role in the Stan series Invisible Boys, opposite Pia Miranda.
He also starred in the popular Amazon series We Were Liars.
