Hugh Sheridan has clarified his sexuality as he insisted he is ‘straight for now’ and was never non-binary.
The Aussie actor, 38, seemingly came out as bisexual and non-binary on Instagram in 2021, but has now insisted he identifies as ‘straight’, which refers to people who are only attracted to the opposite sex.
Hugh, who is single after breaking off his engagement with Kurt Ackerman, clarified his sexuality on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, three years after first coming out.
In 2021, Hugh referred to himself as non-binary and ‘bi’ in an Instagram post but added that he did not want to subscribe to labels around his sexuality.
Now speaking to hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Hugh seemingly revealed he identifies as heterosexual and said he has never been non-binary.
Non-binary people don’t categorise their gender identity as either male or female and often go by the pronouns they/them.
‘I’m not non-binary, I’m like the same as you,’ Hugh told Kyle, 53, after the radio host referred to his apparent non-binary gender identity.
His clarification prompted Kyle to ask: ‘What straight?’ in reference to his own sexuality.

To which Hugh replied: ‘Someone wrote that I was non-binary, yeah I’m straight now.’
Jackie, 49, then shared her surprise as she asked him again if he was ‘straight’, to which Hugh said: ‘For now, for now.’
However, the Packed to the Rafters star then said he is ‘flexible’ and clarified that he never ‘associated’ with any letter under the LGBTQIA+ acronym.
He also insisted he never said he is non-binary but was too ‘scared’ to correct people as he spoke out about his sexuality and gender identity.
‘I was honestly too scared to say ”I never said that”, I was too scared because I thought everyone is going to come and attack me,’ he said.
‘I never said that ever, I never associated myself with any letter of the alphabet, I just wanted to be like Kyle and Jackie O.
‘I just wanted to be someone who can be yourself, choose day-to-day.’
Hugh added that it is ‘normal’ to change as he said it is all a part of being human during the candid discussion.
‘Jackie O could walk out and see a girl she’s in love with, but she doesn’t say she’s this or that, she’s just Jackie O. And you’re just Kyle,’ he added.
In July 2023, Hugh’s pronouns in his Instagram bio appeared as ‘he/him’ following reports he had gone by they/them for two years. Now, Hugh does not list any pronouns on his Instagram bio.
In June 2021, Hugh seemingly referred to himself as bisexual and non-binary in an Instagram post.

At the time, the Packed to the Rafters star was set to wed influencer Kurt Roberts, but the pair split eight months after announcing their engagement.
‘I AM still a human (non binary/bi/me/Hughman) but I’m in a monogamous relationship with another human, who I love,’ Hugh wrote at the time.
He went on to say that he chooses not to subscribe to any labels because it ‘limits’ him as he discussed his sexuality.
‘I don’t accept a label cause it limits me… if you want it, take it,’ he continued.
‘I chose zero labels for no other reason except the exclusion, limitations, separation, I believe are all one, deeeeep down.
‘And who knows? Why chose? Be you. Be true. Be free to BE, to JUST BE… you, a human, same as me.’
Hugh previously opened up about his sexuality in an interview with gay men’s magazine DNA, revealing he was comfortable with being called ‘gay’.
‘Now I’m marrying a guy you can call me gay,’ Hugh explained to the magazine.
‘Whatever! The point is, we’re all human and, in my case, labelling put me into a box that felt like a cell.’
Hugh also told Stellar magazine: ‘I believe labels are for clothes, not for people.’

He also shared that he wanted to speak up for people who don’t use labels as he discussed his fluidity.
Hugh’s relationship with TikTok star Kurt first emerged when the couple were seen passionately kissing in the surf down Bondi Beach in January 2021.
The House Husbands star later revealed he had introduced Kurt to his family and that they were living together in his Bondi home.
After just three months of dating, the couple announced they intended to marry and Hugh shared the post seemingly referring to himself as non-binary and bisexual.
But after an eight-month engagement, Hugh made a shock announcement in November 2021 that the couple had split, and the actor is currently single.
Earlier this year, Hugh was seen proudly flying the rainbow flag at the 2024 Mardi Gras parade in Sydney while wearing a T-shirt reading ‘seen and believed’.
