Hugh Jackman is ‘planning to marry Broadway co-star Sutton Foster’ two years after Deborra-Lee Furness split

Hugh Jackman is reportedly planning to marry his girlfriend Sutton Foster after he finalises his divorce from Deborra-Lee Furness.

The Hollywood star, 56, went public with his Broadway co-star last month, almost two years after confirming his split from his wife of 27 years.

A source close to the Wolverine star has now revealed his plans to marry Sutton.

‘Hugh had a lot of back and forth while he was in Australia for the holidays but ultimately, he realised how much he missed her,’ an insider told Sky News.

‘The magic came flooding back when they reunited and ultimately marriage is the end game for these two.

‘Hugh is clear he wants to make Sutton his wife.’

Hugh Jackman is reportedly planning to marry his girlfriend Sutton Foster after he finalises his divorce from his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness

DailyMail.com revealed last month the Hugh and Deborra-Lee have yet to file for divorce as their decision to dismiss a prenup is proving to be a point of contention.

Insiders claim their split could get ‘messy’ as they struggle to divvy up their estimated $250 million fortune.

Hugh and Deborra-Lee announced the end of their marriage in a shock statement in September 2023, telling fans that they were ‘shifting’ and as a result had decided to ‘separate to pursue our individual growth’.

‘We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,’ the couple said in a joint statement.

‘Our journey now is shifting, and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.’

Hugh and Deborra-Lee met back in 1995 on Australian TV show Correlli, when she was a major star, and he was enjoying his first role fresh out of drama school.

He proposed four months later, telling Today in 2018 that he knew two weeks into meeting Deborra-Lee that they were ‘going to be together for the rest of our lives.’

They were married in Melbourne, Australia, in April 1996 before adopting their son Oscar, now 24, in 2000. Five years later they completed their family unit when they adopted daughter Ava, 19.

Since tying the knot, Hugh has amassed an eye watering fortune, estimated to be around $200 million, thanks to his turn as Wolverine in Marvel’s blockbuster comic book franchise.

He retired the role in Logan in 2017 before reprising the character – and hijacking the box office – last year with Deadpool and Wolverine alongside his close friend Ryan Reynolds.

Hugh has also enjoyed a number of Broadway roles, earned critical acclaim for Oscar-nominated films including Les Miserables and The Prestige, and has built up a healthy property empire with Furness.

The couple bought their first apartment together for $240,000 AUD in 1997, a year after they married.

They sold the two-bedroom property for $740,000 AUD in August 2015, earning themselves a tidy profit of half a million dollars.

The pair bought a three-storey apartment in the Meier Towers building in New York City’s West Village in 2008 for $21 million. They listed the five-bedroom ‘triplex’ for $38.9 million in 2022. It is unclear if it has sold.

They currently own a $3.5 million, 2.5 acre property in East Hampton, New York, which they reportedly rent out for $166,666 per month, a $5.9 million Bondi beach house in Sydney, Australia, and a $21 million penthouse in Manhattan’s affluent Chelsea neighbourhood, which they bought one year before they split.

The division of assets is also complicated by the fact the duo are ‘no longer friends’.

Meanwhile, Sutton filed for divorce from husband Ted Griffin in October.

The Tony-winning Broadway star and the Ocean’s Eleven screenwriter, 53, split after 10 years of marriage, according to Page Six.

The Younger actress filed for uncontested divorce in New York County Supreme Court.

Sutton and Hugh went public with their relationship last month after they were seen locking lips beside their car at an In-N-Out burger restaurant in San Fernando, Los Angeles.

They have been beset in recent months by rumours that an affair between the two scuttled their marriages.

It comes after he went public with his romance with former co-star Sutton Foster earlier this month.

Sutton, 49, shared a backstage secret the pair shared during their time spent appearing in the hit revival of The Music Man.

In a resurfaced interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan from 2022, Sutton said she and the Aussie actor took part in an intimate pre-show ritual they dubbed the ‘carpet chat’.

She explained: ‘We hang out in my dressing room before every show and just catch up.

‘Somehow we ended up sitting, maybe because my dressing room’s a mess, but we sit on the carpet.’

She said this private moment was a ‘wonderful thing’ that brought them closer and helped turn them into ‘really good friends.’

‘That’s been one of the best parts of the whole thing, that I’ve made this wonderful new friend,’ Sutton said.

Soon followed rumours that the pair had struck up a romance, with fans questioning what was behind Hugh’s shock split from his long-time wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.

The couple were seen locking lips beside their car at an In-N-Out burger restaurant in San Fernando, Los Angeles.

Hugh – who split from his wife of 27 years Deborra-lee in September 2023, embraced Sutton as she stroked his face.

Birkhead noted that the show appealed to all of Jackman’s fans, even though who only knew him as Deadpool’s friend Wolverine.

‘After singing, dancing for hours and even jump roping, he found the time to greet his fans outside in the freezing New York cold!’ Birkhead continued.

He added that Dannielynn was so animated that Hugh took note of her from the stage.

‘Hugh told her he was watching her enthusiasm during his performance of “A Million Dreams” from the film, “The Greatest Showman.” She was extremely excited and a bit in disbelief, when she got to actually meet him after all,’ he wrote. ‘His kindness and awesome performance really does prove that he is in fact, “The Greatest Showman.”‘

Birkhead concluded with thanks to Jackman for showing such ‘kindness’ to his daughter’ and for ‘making dreams come true,’ and he urged the actor’s fans to snatching up tickets when he returned for another run of performances from April through August.

In the video, the actor — who sported a rugged salt-and-pepper beard — met up with Dannielynn and other fans outside the theater and shared a hug with her.

‘I was watching you during A Million Dreams!’ he said with delight, before the video cut to a clip of Birkhead’s daughter clapping and cheering on her feet in the front row as Hugh strutted across the stage with backup dancers in tow.

Jackman’s stage show features songs from his hit musical The Greatest Showman, as well as Les Miserables, for which he was nominated for an Oscar after starring in the hit 2012 film adaptation.

He also performed tunes from The Boy From Oz, a musical about the Australian singer–songwriter Peter Allen that he debuted on Broadway in 2003, and The Music Man, which her starred in on Broadway from late 2021 through early 2023 with his future girlfriend Sutton Foster.

In late December, Birkhead shared on Instagram that he had managed to get his daughter tickets to see the beloved entertainer, though she would have been content just to have a cardboard cutout of him.

‘All Dannielynn wanted for Christmas was Hugh Jackman under the tree. Since he wasn’t available, the next best thing had to do,’ the photographer joked while posting photos of Dannielynn beaming next to a cutout of Jackman, who smiled while wearing a lustrous plum-colored tuxedo.

Birkhead revealed in the post that his daughter would be seeing Jackman on Broadway, although it ‘almost didn’t work out,’ as the meet-and-greet tickets he found had already been snatched from his cart by quicker fans once he tried to check out.

But after Dannielynn reiterated that all she wanted for Christmas was ‘Hugh Jackman under the tree,’ Larry checked the ticket options again and found some new meet-and-greet tickets, and he beefed up the gift by getting a ‘life-size cutout of Hugh and put[ting] it under the tree.’

So, technically speaking, she got her wish, which saved Christmas. I’m just a Dad making dreams come true one day at a time,’ he joked.

Birkhead add that he was ‘Not sure what we are going to do with this cutout now,’ before revealing that Dannielynn had already put it ‘in her room.’

Hugh has lately been riding high following dark days after he and his estranged wife Deborra-lee Furness’ announcement in September 2023 that they were separating after 27 years of marriage.

Since starring opposite Ryan Reynolds in the blockbuster superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine, he also confirmed his new romance with his Music Man costar Sutton Foster earlier this month when they were spotted holding hands on their way to a dinner date.

Sutton was lending her support to Jackman again on Friday, when she was pictured arriving at Radio City Music Hall to see him perform.

On January 24, Jackman kicked off his new concert series, From New York, With Love, in which he performs songs over his roles both on screen and stage.

Foster and Jackman, who met in theater circles in 2008 and starred together in the 2021 Broadway revival of The Music Man, were friends for years before dating.

In December 2023, reports began to circulate that the pair were involved in a romantic relationship following his separation from Deborra-Lee Furness.

Hugh and his ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness announced in September 2023 that they were separating after 27 years of marriage.

Meanwhile, Foster filed for an uncontested divorce from her husband Ted Griffin in October of last year.

She had been married to the 53-year-old Ocean’s screenwriter for 10 years.

Foster and Jackman have been swarmed in recent months by rumors that an affair between the two scuttled their marriages.

Fans had remarked on how close they appeared to be in their off-stage interactions while they appeared together in The Music Man.

Furness seemed to lend credence to the rumors when she liked an Instagram post in October from a gossip blogger who claimed that her husband was ‘running off with the mistress’ and planning a ‘soft launch’ of their relationship, according to Us Weekly.

A source told DailyMail.com in October that Furness had her suspicions of an affair, but she was still ‘blindsided when she found out about the affair.’

They described the alleged affair as ‘Broadway’s worst-kept secret,’ adding that ‘Deborra-Lee was the last to know.’

According to a RadarOnline report, Furness was particularly upset over the behavior of Jackman’s close friend Ryan Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively because they allegedly ‘kept quiet’ about the rumored affair.

‘They kept their lips sealed out of loyalty to Hugh,’ a source claimed to the publication.

‘Now she is seething with rage over being the last to know, Deb feels blindsided. She has a memory like a steel trap and isn’t afraid to use it.

‘Debs feels cheated by all three because someone could have told her what was happening and they all chose to keep their mouths shut,’ they added.

‘What I saw was just about the best thing anyone could possibly experience if you’re working your way up in the industry,’ Ryan said of his time on the film according to People.

Wrapping up his heartfelt speech, Ryan added: ‘But I wanted to actually just say, I love this man, I care about this man. He is, he is genuinely the best human being I know. And I have 4 children!’ Hugh, 56, shouted back an ‘I love you’ at his pal.

The exchange comes as both Ryan and Hugh’s reputations as Hollywood’s nicest guys are under threat, amid their respective It Ends With Us legal battle and affair rumours.

Ryan, 48, praised his best friend for setting a good example in Hollywood as he surprised Hugh on stage at his show at Radio City Music Hall

Taking to the stage to surprise Hugh, Ryan said: ‘This was the first major movie star I ever worked with, 16 or 17 years ago on X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

‘And I was young still. I was impressionable. I was expecting going to this movie set with this guy right here, and I didn’t know, I really didn’t know what was gonna happen… But what I saw was just about the best thing anyone could possibly experience if you’re working your way up in the industry.’

He continued: ‘I saw a movie star, a capital M movie star… I saw this gentleman right here walk around that set, and just like here, he knew every single person’s name, even though he was making them up half the time.

‘He showed a kind of courtesy and gentleness and curiosity, and he put value into every single crew member that we were working with.’

He went on to call Hugh his ‘gotcha for life’, before adding: ‘And I know we were supposed to finish this bit where these two security gentlemen come and they try to take the mic for me — it’s like a struggle, and then they tase me and I go down, and then they hog-tie me and then they put me in the Radio City music garbage dump, and then they just light it on fire.

‘But I wanted to actually just say, I love this man, I care about this man. He is, he is genuinely the best human being I know. And I have 4 children!’

‘I love you,’ Hugh shouted back at his friend.

Ryan’s declaration of love for Hugh comes as he is embroiled in the ongoing legal battle surrounding his wife Blake Lively’s film It Ends With Us.

Wrapping up his heartfelt speech, Ryan added: 'But I wanted to actually just say, I love this man, I care about this man. He is, he is genuinely the best human being I know. And I have 4 children!' Hugh, 56, shouted back an 'I love you' at his pal

Last week a bombshell lawsuit saw him sued for defamation alongside wife Blake by the film’s director and star Justin Baldoni.

Justin, 40, and his publicists claim the actress, 37, cooked up a scheme to kill their careers and discredit them by making ‘false accusations of sexual harassment’ – after she sued the actor before Christmas, claiming he sexually harassed her and created a toxic work environment on the set of the film.

He has since launched a counter-suit, and while much of the focus has been on the allegations it makes against Blake, Justin has made a series of bombshell claims about the her husband – accusing Ryan of ‘swearing’, ‘berating him in an aggressive tirade’ and trying to interfere with the movie script.

Court papers accuse the A-list couple of using their combined star power to hijack It Ends With Us, while Justin also claims that Ryan contacted his talent agency to suggest they drop the director as a client on the grounds they were working with a ‘sexual predator’.

In response to the filing, Blake’s legal team furiously accused Justin and his production company Wayfarer Studios of using the ‘abuser playbook’ in his $400 million lawsuit.

‘They are trying to shift the narrative to Ms. Lively by falsely claiming that she seized creative control and alienated the cast from Mr. Baldoni. The evidence will show that the cast and others had their own negative experiences with Mr. Baldoni and Wayfarer.’

While the response did not mention Ryan by name, the denial that he had anything to do with seizing creative control was clearly implied.

It has been reported that Justin’s team have revealed plans to launch a website to bolster his accusations against Blake, and the saga shows no sign of being resolved any time soon.

Meanwhile, Hugh has also been in the spotlight for less than favourable reasons after his secret romance with former The Music Man co-star Sutton Foster was exposed.

The couple starred together in the Broadway revival from December 2021 until January 2023.

The Wolverine star and his wife-of-27-years Deborra-Lee Furness then announced their shock separation later that year to ‘pursue our individual growth’, and co-parent two children.

Sutton later filed for an uncontested divorce from her husband Ted Griffin in October 2024.

Hugh then finally confirmed he’s now dating Sutton, 46, amid rampant speculation about the timeline of their romance.

He was spotted kissing Sutton earlier this month for the first time since their relationship was exposed.

The pair looked deeply in love and couldn’t keep their hands off each other as they repeatedly kissed while in the car at a San Fernando In-N-Out.

Sutton was seen tenderly cradling Hugh’s face as they locked lips while waiting to order the fast food in the drive-thru line – and the pair were later seen holding hands on a date in Santa Monica.

Hugh and Deborra-Lee announced that they were dissolving their 27-year marriage in September 2023.

‘We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,’ the couple said in a statement obtained by People.

He was also photographed sitting on a stool on stage, illuminated by a soft spotlight.

According to the official synopsis on the Radio City Music Hall website, Hugh’s one-man show is a ‘career retrospective’ in which he performs songs from his most iconic roles.

She said this private moment was a ‘wonderful thing’ that brought them closer and helped turn them into ‘really good friends’.

‘That’s been one of the best parts of the whole thing, that I’ve made this wonderful new friend,’ Sutton said.

The glamour couple starred together in The Music Man  on Broadway from December 2021 until January 2023.

‘Needy’ Sutton Foster and her Music Man costar Hugh Jackman made no attempts to hide their affection backstage – before enjoying double dates with their respective spouses, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Hugh, 56, and Sutton, 49, starred together in Meredith Wilson’s musical on Broadway from December 2021 until January 2023.

Soon followed rumours that the pair had struck up a romance, with fans questioning what was behind Hugh’s shock split from his long-time wife, Deborra-Lee Furness.

Now, an insider from the musical has laid bare details of their behind-the-scenes chemistry, years before they finally confirmed their romance earlier this month.

‘At intermission, Sutton and Hugh would stand and hug for a minute, two minutes in front of the entire cast coming up the stairs,’ they said.

‘The cast had to climb four flights of stairs to get to the dressing rooms. And they would stop on Hugh’s floor and just hug in their costumes.’

Sutton, who was married to screenwriter Ted Griffin at the time, previously said they would ‘hang out’ in her dressing room, which was on the floor above his, before every show.

Although the insider never saw the duo in there, they did notice their ‘long embrace’ which would take place ‘every night’.

‘It was odd,’ they continued. ‘In a way it was uncomfortable.

‘As the entire cast is trying to get to their dressing rooms upstairs, we all had to pass the two of them hugging.

‘They didn’t even hide it! It was a long embrace… and it was weird.’

When asked why Hugh and Sutton would behave like that in front of everybody, the insider described the Anything Goes actress as looking as if she was ‘needy.’

‘I thought she was just a needy actress,’ they said. ‘That’s the way it appeared to me – the needy actress needed the hug from the big superman,’ the source said.

Hugh and Sutton, who have known each other since 2005, played Harold Hill and Marian Paroo, respectively, and were required to ‘passionately make out on stage’ as part of the performance.

‘It was a doozy of a kiss,’ the source said. ‘It’s many measures of music long, and even in rehearsal, it was very passionate. But, it’s supposed to be for their characters.’

After the show, the insider claimed that Sutton and Hugh would always leave separately, although Sutton would be ‘waiting for Hugh to go to his car, and then she would go to her car.’

Other times they would go on ‘double dates’ together.

‘They had dinners with each other’s spouses and Sutton and her husband Ted were invited over for dinner with Hugh and his wife Deborra-Lee,’ the source added.

DailyMail.com has reached out to reps for Hugh and Sutton for comment.

Foster filed for divorce from her estranged husband Ted, 54, in October after 10 years of marriage. They share adopted daughter Emily, seven.

Meanwhile, Hugh and Deborra, 69, were married for 27 years before they announced their separation in September 2023.

In a statement, they told their fans that they were ‘shifting’ and as a result had decided to ‘separate to pursue our individual growth.’

They have two adopted children, Oscar, 24, and Ava, 19.

Despite Hugh and Sutton’s ‘very friendly’ demeanor, the insider made clear that they ‘never suspected anything was going on’ because of how ‘solid’ Hugh’s marriage was with the Australian actress.

‘Hugh talked about Deb all the time, and she supported him so much,’ they said. ‘To give an example, if we were talking about menopause and being hot on stage, he was like, “Oh, I know Deb is going through the same thing.” She’s like, “Turn the heat off.”

‘And when Hugh started the show, he was getting skinnier by the minute and talking about the fact that he was so skinny.

‘He went, “I know Deb’s killing me [about losing weight].” He’d say things like that.’

When asked why they believe Hugh and Sutton’s chemistry took off, the source described them both as ‘big nerds’ and ‘goofy.’

‘I think he is a musical comedy nerd more than anything,’ they said. ‘You think of him as the most secure man in the world because of Wolverine and Les Mis, but really, he just wants to be on stage.

‘And I think he’s enamored by her talent.’

Hugh and Sutton’s romance was previously dubbed ‘Broadway’s worst-kept secret,’ but sources have previously told DailyMail.com that there was never any overlap with their respective marriages.

However, Deborra-Lee raised eyebrows in November when her private Instagram account ‘liked’ a video from gossip blogger Tasha Lustig which claimed Hugh was ‘running off with the mistress’ and planning a ‘soft launch’ of his new relationship to test reaction just one month after they announced their split.

Adding credence to the claim was her friend Amanda de Cadenet, who commented on the same post: ‘You are on point with this one. My beloved friend Deb is about to have her glow up any moment fyi!’

Last week, DailyMail.com exclusively revealed that the longtime couple, whose joint fortune is around $250 million, have yet to file for divorce.

‘One of the biggest reasons why they haven’t yet filed is that they never had a prenup,’ an insider revealed.

‘When they got married, they thought it would be forever. Who doesn’t? At the time, neither of them expected Hugh’s career to get as enormous as it has.

‘Because there was no prenup, and he made a fortune during their marriage, this divorce is not going to be cut and dry. It may even get messy because the stakes are high.

‘A lot of moving parts need to be worked out and there is a huge amount of money involved.’

The insider insisted they both want to ‘make this as easy as possible,’ but that after three decades and one partner becoming a massive A-list star, ‘it’s not quite that easy.’

Meanwhile, Sutton’s divorce is still ongoing in New York. One month after the actress filed for divorce, Ted filed his response along with a counter-claim in November.

She then responded two weeks later, however, the documents are sealed from the public, so details are unknown.

Since Sutton and Hugh’s relationship has gone public, they haven’t been able to keep their hands off of each other, with the pair snapped passionately kissing last week near a San Fernando In-N-Out.

Deborra-Lee appeared to brush off her ex’s antics as she enjoyed a day out at the Australian Open with her daughter Ava.

The actress met Hugh back in 1995 on Australian TV show Correlli, when she was a major star, and he was enjoying his first role fresh out of drama school.

He proposed four months later, telling Today in 2018 that he knew two weeks into meeting Furness that they were ‘going to be together for the rest of our lives.’

They were married in Melbourne, Australia, in April 1996.

  • Nicole Kidman ‘torn between two best friends Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness’ after split – as he moves on with actress Sutton Foster

Nicole Kidman ‘torn between two best friends Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness’ after split – as he moves on with actress Sutton Foster

Nicole Kidman, in her own words, ‘owes’ her Hollywood career to her close friends Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness  — so who will the starlet owe her loyalty to in their separation?

After weeks of speculation, Jackman, 56, has finally confirmed he’s now dating his former Broadway co-star Sutton Foster, 46, in two PDA-filled outings.

He and Furness, 69, were married for 27 years before they announced their shock separation in 2023 to ‘pursue our individual growth’.

Insiders claim their split could get ‘messy’ as the now-estranged couple struggle to divvy up their estimated $250 million fortune without a prenup.

While Kidman, 57, counts both Jackman and Furness among her best friends, an inside source has told New Idea she’s particularly ‘worried’ about her.

‘Nicole knows Hugh is going to be fine – he has the best team of handlers in Hollywood and he’s in the throes of his new romance,’ the insider told the publication.

‘He doesn’t need her right now, so for Nicole, the focus is on Deb and she’s worried about her more than anything else.’

Kidman and Jackman starred together  in Baz Luhrmann’s Australia and have had each others’ backs behind the scenes for decades.

Furness was the first to meet Kidman when she was ‘couch surfing’ in Los Angeles as a teenager before being cast in Days of Thunder, where she met Tom Cruise.

‘[I slept on the couch] in the house that Deborra-Lee was renting, and she gave the chance to stay there and we could go and audition,’ Kidman told the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia in a recorded interview.

‘It was expensive, we couldn’t afford hotels, so the idea of being in hub out of a house together, was really, I mean, my god.’

She added: ‘You’d go and come back and you’d go over for a few weeks and do some auditions and hope to crack it.’

‘[Deborra-Lee] was one of my best friends,’ the Big Little Lies star said, adding that the fellow actress always gave her a place to stay when she flew in from Australia.

The Nine Perfect Strangers star has previously revealed how Furness and Jackman helped her after her divorce from Cruise in 2001.

‘When I got divorced, Hugh and Deb were so much a part of my healing,’ she said in a candid interview with Australian Women’s Weekly.

‘They were some of my best friends through that period,’ she added.

Like Kidman, Jackman and Furness were among a small group of budding Australian actors living in Hollywood in the 1980s.

‘I do remember Tom Cruise ringing the house when she landed the role [in Days of Thunder]. Nic was always very cool and took it all in her stride,’ Furness said.

After splitting with the Mission Impossible star, Kidman went on to meet her second husband, Keith Urban.

The source adds that Kidman is ‘determined to get her (Deb) through what really is an emotionally traumatic time’, adding that she is ready to jump on a flight and be by Deb’s side at ‘any time’.

‘Deb puts on a tough front but losing Hugh to a younger actress is her worst nightmare come true,’ the insider said, adding that Furness ‘expects’ Kidman will also continue to support Jackman as well.

While this will be tough for the Babygirl actress, she has manoeuvred her friends’ high-profile break ups before and maintained her relationships with the likes of Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber.

Jackman’s newfound love with Foster has added to the growing tension between The Greatest Showman star and Furness, who had struggled with ‘resentment and an imbalance of power’ towards the end of their three-decade marriage.

They were reportedly working towards filing for divorce before Christmas, but were thwarted by the holidays and Jackman’s second turn in The Music Man alongside his new love interest.

They are now planning to file in New York ‘in the next couple of weeks.’

‘One of the biggest reasons why they haven’t yet filed is that they never had a prenup,’ an insider close to Jackman told DailyMail.com exclusively.

‘A lot of moving parts need to be worked out and there is a huge amount of money involved.

The insider insisted they both want to ‘make this as easy as possible,’ but that after three decades and one partner becoming a massive A-list star, ‘it’s not quite that easy.’

Furness and Jackman met back in 1995 on Australian TV show Correlli, when she was a major star, and he was enjoying his first role fresh out of drama school.

He proposed four months later, telling Today in 2018 that he knew two weeks into meeting Furness that they were ‘going to be together for the rest of our lives.’

They were married in Melbourne, Australia, in April 1996 before adopting their son Oscar, now 24, in 2000. Five years later they completed their family unit when they adopted daughter Ava, 19.

Since tying the knot, Jackman has amassed an eye watering fortune, estimated to be around $200 million, thanks to his turn as Wolverine in Marvel’s blockbuster comic book franchise.

‘Hugh and Deborra-Lee are cordial to each other, but they are no longer friends,’ the insider said. ‘They put their differences aside to co-parent and he cares a lot about is children.’

A long believer in the benefits of transcendental meditation,  the director established the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace in 2005.

Hugh has also been a long supporter of the foundation, revealing to People, in September last year, how the practice of transcendental meditation had changed his life.

He revealed that he began meditating while he was ‘a young acting student’.

‘I thought it would really help me with my acting. That’s why I sort of went and it did, ‘ Hugh said.

‘It helps you be more present, more creative, more energised, more able to connect to people.’

Hugh added: ‘What I realised very quickly is it changed everything in my life into better: My relationships, my sense of who I am, my accountability with who I am — and literally, every aspect of my life changed.’

Hugh joins a raft of celebrities paying tribute to the late auteur.

Happy Days icon and director Ron Howard wrote: ‘#RIPDavidLynch, a gracious man and fearless artist who followed his heart & soul and proved that radical experimentation could yield unforgettable cinema.’

DC Studios boss James Gunn penned: ‘RIP David Lynch. You inspired so many of us.’

Patton Oswalt, who has previously cited Lynch’s 1977 film Eraserhead as one of his defining movies, wrote: ‘David Lynch, RIP. At least that’s what the horse wearing a fez just told me* in a dream. (*Backwards and in Swedish).’

The four-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker’s family announced the devastating news via social media on Thursday.

Famous for directing his iconic TV series Twin Peaks and the film Blue Velvet, Lynch had recently been battling ill health and was homebound due to emphysema.

In a post, shared on Facebook, his loved ones wrote: ‘It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch.’

‘We would appreciate some privacy at this time. There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us.’

‘But, as he would say, “Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.” ‘It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way,’ they concluded.

In an interview with Sight & Sound in August, Lynch said that he got the disease ‘for smoking so long.’

Lynch said: ‘I’m homebound whether I like it or not. I can’t go out. And I can only walk a short distance before I’m out of oxygen.’

The director of Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks got real as he said his love of cigarettes put him in this position.

Lynch said: ‘Smoking was something that I absolutely loved, but in the end, it bit me.

‘It was part of the art life for me: the tobacco and the smell of it, and lighting things and smoking and going back and sitting back and having a smoke and looking at your work, or thinking about things.

‘Nothing like it in this world is so beautiful. Meanwhile, it’s killing me. So I had to quit.’

His most recent major project before his health issues was the revival of his series Twin Peaks in 2017.

The original series had ran from 1990 to 1991 as it followed the investigation into the murder of homecoming queen Laura Palmer (played by Sheryl Lee) as it took place in the fictional town of Twin Peaks, Washington.

When it first aired in the early 1990s the series had developed a cult following after its run which later resulted in the 1992 prequel feature film Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.

Fans had remarked on how close they appeared to be in their off-stage interactions while they appeared together in The Music Man.

The Deadpool & Wolverine star, 56, took to Instagram on Tuesday to share a series of photos and clips showing the actor deep in rehearsal.

Hugh was brushing up for his anticipated performances at Radio City Music Hall for his show New York, With Love.

One of the videos featured Hugh belting out the tune The Greatest Show from his 2017 big screen musical The Greatest Showman.

However, not all fans were impressed with his evident talent, taking to the comments to slam the star over his new romance with Sutton Foster, 49.

The newly minted-couple were spotted passionately kissing for the first time this week, after their secret relationship was exposed.

The Wolverine actor and Broadway icon Sutton looked deeply in love and couldn’t keep their hands off each other as they repeatedly kissed while in the car at burger chain In-And-Out in San Fernando.

Prior to this, the couple were swarmed by rumours of conducting an affair before exiting their marriages.

In the comments of Hugh’s rehearsal post, fans couldn’t help but weigh in on his newfound love.

‘I respect Hugh’s work, but I no longer respect him after the allegations of him having an affair with Sutton Foster were confirmed as true,’ one crestfallen fan said.

Another replied with a long-winded post explaining why they thought Hugh’s new relationship was so triggering to fans.

‘What people aren’t getting/understanding is WHY his fans are upset at him. Hugh literally built his brand/image being the respectful, supportive husband/family man,’ they began.

‘People believed he was real n separated him from the normal Hollywood BS behaviour. He showed ppl that he was DIFFERENT. So hearing that he possibly had an affair is heartbreaking.’

One churlish commenter went a step further, branding Hugh’s post as ‘pathetic’ and his relationship with Sutton a ‘fake.’

‘Bro…you look pathetic. 56 years old and doing this nonsense. The worst fake relationship I’ve seen in all of Hollywood,’ they chided.

It wasn’t all negativity though, with many fans offering their support to Hugh and telling the critics to ‘mind their own business.’

‘No one knows the details of his and Deb’s relationship, maybe people need to just stop judging and keep their nose out of other peoples lives, one fan offered. referring to Hugh’s ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness.

‘As long as they are consenting adults who cares what they do in their private life! It’s called private for a reason!’

Another agreed with the sentiment, adding: ‘Every person should take care of their personal life. and not get into someone else’s life.

‘If you don’t like Hugh, then you don’t need to shout about it under his posts, you can just pass by, unfollow the person.’

A third offered a simple: ‘Jackman, you have the right to be happy.’
