Tig Notaro has explained how politics came between her and her friendship with Cheryl Hines.
The 54-year-old comedian opened up about the fallout while appearing on the Breaking Bread With Tom Papa podcast this week.
She reminisced about her relationship with the 60-year-old actress: ‘Cheryl was one of my favorite friends to be ridiculous with. And we made each other laugh so hard.’
Tig said she ‘needed to step away’ from Cheryl as her husband Robert F. Kennedy Jr. became a Donald Trump supporter.
‘Cheryl’s married to Bobby Kennedy Jr. When he was announcing his run, I just felt like I needed to step away,’ the standup comic shared.
She elaborated, ‘Because there are beliefs that were like a gnat on the arm years ago that were getting further into the spotlight.’

Tig went on to say, ‘My friendship with Cheryl predated her marriage to Bobby. He was in environmental law. And again, other beliefs he had were like a gnat on my arm.
‘But then it started to grow, and Cheryl wanted me to hear Bobby out, and they had these good ideas. I was like, “I can’t.” I just didn’t trust it. And then he endorsed Trump, and then it just got hard.’
Tig and Cheryl previously co-hosted a podcast about documentaries, called True Story.
‘It was fun to have to watch a documentary every week, but also we took the pressure off, because we would ask each other things like, “Who are you attracted to in this documentary?”‘ the Morning Show star recalled.
She lamented, ‘It’s really sad, because it did bring me so much joy. And Cheryl did bring me so much joy.’
The longtime entertainer added, ‘But that’s what I’m looking for, is I want to get back to prioritizing people that bring me joy and workloads that bring me joy.’
This week Cheryl got into a heated debate with The View’s Sunny Hostin over her husband’s capacity to serve as Health Secretary.
The Curb Your Enthusiasm actress was a guest on Tuesday’s episode of the ABC talk show and was grilled about her spouse’s lack of a medical background.

Cheryl furiously defended husband RFK Jr.’s ability to serve as health secretary on The View earlier this week
Defending her RFK Jr.’s knowledge, Cheryl said: ‘He has dedicated his career to suing big corporations because of toxins that have been affecting people’s health.
‘He was part of the team that sued Monsanto because of Roundup, a pesticide that was causing cancer. GMOs right?
‘He sued Dupont, he sued Exxon, and he sued these companies for health reasons, because they were causing health problems.’
But Sunny, 56, pointed out RFK JR’s lack of credentials.
‘But the problem, respectfully, is that your husband is the least qualified Department of Health and Human Services head that we’ve had in history,’ she said.
Refusing to back down, Cheryl continued: ‘He has spent his career studying toxins, studying people’s health, fighting for one guy who was using Roundup for his job.’
‘He has also spread a lot of misinformation, a lot of chaos, a lot of confusion,’ Sunny said to applause. ‘And I think it’s just a very dangerous thing. I say it with the utmost respect.’
