Hollyoaks star James Sutton splits with girlfriend Tamara Jane two years after the breakdown of his five-year marriage to ex-wife Rachel

Hollyoaks star James Sutton has split with his girlfriend of one-year Tamara Jane who he dated following the breakdown of his marriage.

The former couple, who went public with their romance in February 2024, have decided to end their romance, according to the Sun.

Both James, 42, who is known for playing John Paul McQueen on the show, has unfollowed Tamara on Instagram and has removed her from all of his pictures. MailOnline has contacted James’s representative for a comment on the split.

James confirmed his romance with Tamara just five months after the breakdown of his half a decade marriage to wife Rachel Collin was announced.

The couple went Instagram official with their romance last year when James took to social media to share a snap of himself and Tamara.

James captioned the post: ‘Mine ♥️ #DateNight’. 

The actor has played John Paul in the Channel 4 soap opera on and off for almost 20 years and some of his co-stars were quick to congratulate him on the happy news. 

Mercedes McQueen actress Jennifer Metcalfe wrote ‘Love this’ and he responded to his on-screen sister with a string of celebratory emojis.

Former I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star Jamie Lomas – who plays Warren Fox in the serial – left a string of heart emojis and Olivia Bradshaw actress Emily Burnett said: ‘finally..’

James had met ex-wife Rachael at Glastonbury Festival and returned there to tie the knot in 2018, but have they went gone their separate ways after five years of marriage last September.

He told MailOnline of the split: ‘Rachael and I had a wonderful relationship and marriage. It was very sad but amicable, and we remain friends.’

Their marriage reportedly became ‘strained’ during the Covid-19 lockdown before the couple decided to quietly divorce.

A source told The Mirror: ‘James and Rachael have enjoyed a really happy marriage but, as many couples can relate to, their relationship became strained during lockdown.

‘James is in the public eye, whereas Rachael prefers to be out of the spotlight and, after eight fantastic years together, they decided they were better off as friends.’ 

The star confirmed their engagement in 2015 during a romantic trip to Barbados but they later split up, with James’ romance with Rachael emerging in early 2017.  

James joined Hollyoaks in 2006 and has featured in a whole host of the drama’s high-profile homosexuality storylines, including ones of male rape and homophobia.

Playing the son of Myra McQueen, he quit the drama in 2008, before returning in December 2012. He then briefly left again in 2017 before coming back in 2019.

He also starred as Ryan Lamb in rival soap opera Emmerdale for two years before the left the ITV show in 2011.
