Holly Hagan Reveals Postpartum Disinterest in Sex with Husband Jacob Blyth

Holly Hagan has revealed that she had zero interest in having sex with her husband after giving birth to her son.

The former Geordie Shore star, 33, welcomed son Alpha Jax, two, with her husband Jacob Blyth, 33, in June 2023.

And while co-hosting the CBeebies Parenting Helpline this week, the star revealed that she completely lost her libido as she opened up about intimacy after childbirth.

She said: “I could have said, “Listen, if you don’t touch me ever again, I’m not even bothered” because that’s just how I felt at the time.’

Sex and relationship therapist Rachel Gold then said mothers often expect to become intimate again after their six-week postnatal check, but Holly said that wasn’t the case for her.

She said: ‘I think that really fools people into believing that this must be the time to have sex again, but it isn’t true.’

Revealing she would avoid any sort of intimacy after the arrival of her son, Holly added: ‘Whenever I would give him (her husband) any type of affection, like a touch or a cuddle, I felt it was going to lead to the full thing, to sex, and I didn’t want that.

‘I started having a negative connotation doing anything towards him.’

However, the star admitted that being open with her husband, Jacob, at the time helped.

She said: ‘As soon as I said, this is how I’m feeling, “whenever I’m cuddling you and touching, can we just not make it lead to the next thing? Because it’s just making me not want to do that”, and all of a sudden everything was so much better because that pressure was taken off.’

Her husband, however, was worried that she no longer fancied him, and Holly had to reassure him that that was not the case.

She shared: ‘I was like, “you need to realise this has nothing to do with you. I am feeling this way at the moment, but I don’t think any differently of you.”

“I don’t really feel like having sex right now, or even maybe in the next few months. This is my issue that I’m going through, and I just need to work through it.”

The star hopes that couples experiencing the same issues can be more open, as she added: ‘People do say the relationship changes after having a child, but I don’t think that until you’re in it, you really, truly, realise how much it changes.’

Dr Jennifer Lincoln, a specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology, said there are many reasons why women may not want to have sex after giving birth.

She shared: ‘There’s a lot of healing that happens. It takes about six weeks for the uterus to return to its pre-pregnancy size. Any tears in the vagina or perineum are also healing.’

Meanwhile, women go through hormonal changes after giving birth, which can also impact their libido.

Dr Jennifer added: ‘Levels of estrogen and progesterone drop drastically. The lower estrogen levels can lead to physical changes like vaginal dryness, which can make sex painful.

‘People usually think menopause is the single most acute shift in hormone levels that a woman will ever experience, but actually the few days surrounding childbirth are.’

Holly announced she was welcoming her first child in January 2023, six months after marrying National League footballer Jacob in a summer Ibiza wedding.

Announcing the news in an exclusive video with OK! Magazine, Holly told Jacob: ‘Your patience, strength and resilience inspire me every single day and I couldn’t think of a strong role model for our future children.’

The video then cut to Jacob unwrapping a present, which contained a positive pregnancy test, leading to a shocked reaction from the footballer.

The following month, Holly announced she was expecting a son after filming a gender reveal and joint second wedding party for Geordie Shore.

At the event, Holly and her husband ensured no expense was spared when it came to the announcement – which included vast light-up letters, amazing flowers, a photobooth and a stunning cake.

During her pregnancy, the TV personality kept fans in the loop and revealed she had picked out an unusual moniker for her child.

When a fan asked if she’d picked out a name during an Instagram Q&A, Holly wrote at the time: ‘We’ve only ever had one name since the start and it was a boy’s name.

‘Never even thought about a girl’s name because I just knew he was a boy. I’m in love with the name.

‘It’s uncommon but after you’ve said it a few times you’ll think why isn’t that more common as a name?’
