Hilary Duff filters through a busy schedule during the holiday season, but prioritizes squeezing in a fitness session through one special hack: working out in the morning.
The Lizzie McGuire alum, 37 – who recently bundled up for a casual outing in rainy L.A. – opened up about putting her health first amid the festivities while talking to Women’s Health in an article published on Tuesday.
The mother-of-three admitted to the outlet, ‘We have so much going on with school events and birthdays and other stuff. Our fall is really busy.’
However, working out in the morning is the star’s ‘holiday health hack,’ and she explained, ‘you feel like you spend all day eating and drinking, [so] it’s nice to get it out of the way and just know you did it.’
When it coms to her own fitness routines, Duff revealed that she enjoys the Tracy Anderson Method – which helps focus on ‘strong, lean muscles and create balance where there is imbalance in their body,’ per the fitness entrepreneur’s website.

Hilary also enjoys HIIT Pilates classes inside a heated studio, which incorporates high-intensity interval training – such as push-ups and jumping lunges – and Pilates which causes her to get ‘a little bit more sweaty’ for ‘purging of toxins.’
The beauty expressed that one of the benefits of HIIT Pilates is making her skin refreshed, stating, ‘There’s nothing better than the way [that workout] makes your skin feel.’
‘You feel like you got rid of what you needed to get rid of, and then your skin just feels so nice. I really like that feeling.’
When she works out on her own, the singer revealed that while she includes high-intensity exercise, she also adds in strength training.
‘Lifting weights, as a woman, is really important. It’s important for your bones. It’s important for us constantly being on our cell phones and our posture,’ the How I met Your Father actress expressed.
However, she added, ‘I’m not talking like crazy heavy weights. You know, I’m not a bodybuilder. But it is nice to lift weights.’
Duff’s focus on health doesn’t only take place in the gym, but also when it comes to self-care, which she explained ‘has turned into many different elements.’
‘It’s not just like, “Oh, I’m dry brushing or taking a bath or exercising or hydrating”…relaxing and rest is important, and exercise is important, but creating your sanctuary is a huge part of self-care.’

Time together: ‘So now, we ski, which is obviously seasonal. And we play tennis together, which is really fun,’ Duff said of herself and husband Matthew
In terms of how she creates a self-care sanctuary, Hilary stated that choosing a scent for the space that she’s in is ‘an expression of how I’m feeling.’
The star notably launched her own fragrance line earlier this month called, Below 60°, and is the Chief Brand Director of the company. The brand offers consumers a variety of all-natural scents that go into a plug-in diffuser.
While talking to Elle Decor earlier this month to open up about her role with Below 60°, Duff explained that, ‘a bowl of scalding wax and an open flame is a recipe for disaster in our household.’
She then added, ‘This is your good old-fashioned plug-in that doesn’t look old-fashioned at all.’
‘My home is a place where I feel like I get to be my most authentic self and express what I’m into and how I’m feeling,’ the beauty expressed to the outlet. ‘So, bringing scent to it in a safe way, and sharing that with the world, is really exciting.’
While she focuses on fitness and self-care for her own health, Hilary revealed she keeps her family members active as well.
Duff shares son Luca, 11, with her ex-husband, Mike Comrie, as well as daughters Banks, five, and Mae, two, with Matthew Koma – whom she tied the knot with in 2019.
Hilary stated that her kids enjoy activities such as swimming, and both she and Koma play tennis together.

Small ‘escape’: Earlier this year in June, Hilary opened up about taking on tennis with Matthew and told Shape Magazine that she enjoys ‘that escape and that little break’ with her husband
‘About two years ago, I told him, “Here’s the deal: We need a sport so we still like each other when the kids leave the house,”‘ she humorously recalled to Women’s Health.
She continued, ‘So now, we ski, which is obviously seasonal. And we play tennis together, which is really fun.’

‘It’s a really complex game, and it’s hard to think about other things when you’re playing. It kind of drowns out all the buzzing in my head.’
She also gave credit to her personal trainer, Dominic Leeder, to help her stay focused on her health and keeping up with working out, despite being a busy mom and working on set.
With her trainer, Duff focuses more on upper body strengthening and muscles. ‘This is the first time I’ve really trained like that, and it makes such a huge difference, especially with my core and not getting hurt.’
The Younger actress admitted to the outlet, ‘I walk differently. I hold myself differently. I eat better.’

Duff continues to prove that she is super mom, and recently reached another big milestone by publishing her second children’s book titled: My Little Sweet Boy.
The book was officially released earlier this month on November 7, and the beauty drew inspiration from her eldest son, Luca.
During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show to promote the book, Hilary opened up about becoming an author and stated, ‘I’m still not feeling like a writer but I really do enjoy writing.’
‘It’s such a vulnerable place. And it’s hard to sit down and get into the zone and do it. Especially with motherhood, sitting down to write feels like a selfish moment.’
