Hilary Duff, 37, Surprises Fans with Career Change

Hilary Duff announced a major career change to the excitement of her fans this week.

On Tuesday, the 37-year-old actress revealed she signed with Atlantic Records and is also working on a docuseries about her long-awaited return to music.

She took to Instagram to share three candid photos of herself recording music in the studio with her husband, singer-songwriter and record producer Matthew Koma, 38.

The former Disney star — who released her last album, Breathe In. Breathe Out., in 2015 — wrote in her caption, ‘new music … or something,’ alongside emojis of a disco ball, sparkles and cherries.

Further details about her upcoming projects remain under wraps, however, as a release date for her new music and a premiere date for the docuseries have not yet been announced.

Duff’s docuseries will not only chronicle her long-awaited return to music and explore her personal life as a multihyphenate actress, singer and mother-of-four.

The highly anticipated project will be directed and executive produced by Sam Wrench.

Wrench worked on A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter, the pop star’s 2024 holiday special, as well as Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, the superstar’s concert film.

Duff is mother to son Luca Cruz, 13, from her marriage to Mike Comrie and shares daughters Banks Violet, six, Mae James, four, and Townes Meadow, one, with Koma.

She has been married to her musician husband — who appears to be contributing in the production part of her new musical project as seen in her latest Instagram post — since late 2019.

The series will embrace ‘the ups, downs and everything in between,’ according to a press release obtained by Variety

And it promises that ‘fans will ride shotgun as she balances raising a family, recording new music, live show rehearsals, and preparing to perform on stage for the first time in over a decade.’

Duff also recently took to Instagram to share a post celebrating the 22-year anniversary of her debut album Metamorphosis, which she released in 2003.

On August 27, she shared a series of throwback photos of her teenage self and penned a lengthy caption about the ‘pretty epic’ time in her life.

She concluded the note with, ‘To be continued…,’ and sparked a flurry of excited fan reactions in her comments section.

‘Clearly I had to go digging around the internet for pictures from this time as I’m not sure camera phones even existed,’ she began. ‘Sadly all my hairstyles ARE very documented.’

She added: ‘I do know this marker of time was a huge change in my being. I was embarking on something I had no idea would make such an impact on peoples lives, and mine.As much as I look back and think this album doesn’t hold the emotional depth I look for today, I know my 14/15 year old self meant every word.

‘It sure as hell also landed on people at the right moment in time and set me off on a pretty epic adventure,’ she continued. ‘I remember some of my first shows being in a skate park in San Jose, and very shortly after, stepping out on stage in arenas.

‘Yesterday marked the 22nd anniversary of Metamorphosis… Although these are distant memories for me, thank you for showing up the way that you did.’

Since her last record release, Duff has largely shifted her focus to acting with TV roles in shows such as Younger and How I Met Your Father.

The former Disney star was also slated to star in a reboot of her 2001 breakthrough comedy series Lizzie McGuire, but it was later shelved during the production process before it could make it to its 2020 premiere on Disney+.

Her last music release was a cover of Third Eye Blind’s Never Let You Go alongside RAC and her husband in 2020.
